Details: The Apple power adapter settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled In Re: MagSafe Apple Power Adapter Litigation, that claims MacBook power adapters are defective because they “dangerously fray, spark and prematurely fail to work." Apple denies all allegations but has agreed to settle the case to avoid ongoing litigation.

The Apple MagSafe power adapter settlement will provide a cash payment if you are the original owner of an Apple MacBook or MacBook Pro computer that shipped with a 60W or 85W MagSafe “T” Power Adapter and/or purchased a standalone 60W or 85W MagSafe “T” Power Adapter. (The class action settlement includes original owners who received their computers as gifts.)

The amount of cash you can get from the Apple MacBook power adapter class action settlement will vary depending on when you purchased a replacement adapter. If you purchased a replacement during the first year following the initial purchase of the computer or adapter, you can receive up to $79. If you purchased a replacement during the second or third year following the initial purchase, the cash payment will be $50 and $35, respectively. There is a limit of three refunds per computer. More details one the class action settlement benefits can be found at www.AdapterSettlement.com.

If you did not buy a replacement but your MagSafe adapter shows signs of Strain Relief Damage (e.g.; fraying, melting, straining, sparking, weakening, discoloration, bubbling, overheating and/or separation of the Adapter’s strain reliefs) now or in the future, you can claim a free replacement under Apple’s Adapter Replacement Program by taking your adapter and computer to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider or contacting AppleCare.

You have until July 31, 2013 to claim a replacement adapter or you lose your right to obtain one.

To qualify for the cash payment from the MacBook power adapter class action settlement you must submit a claim form and proof of purchase postmarked on or before March 21, 2012.
