Yasmin DVT Side Effects: How to Self Diagnose

By John Curran

Yaz Yasmin blood clotsDual-hormone contraceptives have been linked to the increase in Yasmin deep vein thrombosis (DVT) conditions. Blood clotting has enough of a scientific basis that Bayer Pharmaceutical is paying out hundreds of millions of dollars in Yaz/Yasmin injury lawsuit settlements.

Money, however, is not nearly as important as women being able to avoid these painful and difficult-to-treat conditions in the first place. Not taking these birth control pills is one option. The other is to know what to look for to prevent further damage from Yasmin blood clots.

Axelrod Mustache Puts Dilantin Side Effects On Notice

By John Curran

David AxelrodDavid Axelrod's mustache may be one of the most famous in politics, and in shaving it on Friday, it may signal a significant decrease in the likelihood of Dilantin side effects for people who suffer from epileptic seizures.

He is well known around Washington, DC for his work in re-electing President Barack Obama. However, in this case, his politics are not important. He made a bet with the hosts of the TV show Morning Joe that if they raised $1 million for the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE) in November, he would shave his mustache of 30 years. They did, and improved treatments that may result will lead to fewer Dilantin side effects as patients switch over.

Why Is GranuFlo & NaturaLyte More Dangerous Than Other Dialysis Drugs?

By Andrea Gressman

GranuFlo recall lawsuitIf you receive kidney dialysis, the Class I recall of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte in June of 2012 was probably some pretty alarming news, even if you don’t use those particular dialysis products. You may have thought about whether your dialysis treatment medication would have the same side effect or not. However, it is important to realize that the side effect issues associated with GranuFlo and NaturaLyte are not necessarily shared with any of the other dialysis treatment options.

NaturaLyte and GranuFlo are both concentrates that are used in kidney dialysis treatment. Their manufacturer is Fresenius Medical Care, which happens to be based out of Germany. However, they do own and operate a number of kidney dialysis centers in the United States in addition to manufacturing these popular dialysis treatment products.

By Christina Drury

While he paid over $2.5 million in a settlement in 2011, his lawyer contends that he should not have been brought up on criminal charges.

Greek Yogurt False Advertising Lawsuits Belong to FDA, Judge Says

By Sarah Pierce

Yoplait Greek yogurtA federal judge yesterday dismissed a class action lawsuit accusing General Mills and Yoplait of selling Greek yogurt that is “neither yogurt nor Greek,” saying the matter should be resolved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and not the courts.

Minnesota District Judge Susan Richard Nelson tossed the proposed Yoplait Greek yogurt class action lawsuit in which plaintiff Martin Taradejna claimed the companies knowingly misrepresented the quality of their product by using a cheap additive that is not among the permissible ingredients of yogurt set forth under FDA regulation. Judge Nelson said the FDA should settle the debate over what constitutes Greek yogurt and help end the growing number of similar false advertising class action lawsuits pending in other courts.

What's the Real Deal with Pradaxa Safety?

By Christina Drury

Pradaxa
Pradaxa has been in the news recently for regularly causing side effects in patients – some that result in death. With over 500 Pradaxa-induced deaths in 2011 alone, Pradaxa has been a source of concern for many patients. The prescription drug is a blood thinner that is believed to have been rushed through the FDA approval process due to the need for an alternative to warfarin which has been tied to several claims of internal bleeding and subsequent injury. It appears that Pradaxa is no better, and with no antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding, it just might be worse.
