Details: The Gaiam BPA class action lawsuit alleges Gaiam made certain misstatements and omissions related to its advertising and marketing of some of its aluminum water bottles, specifically that the aluminum bottles were BPA-free when they actually contain trace amounts of the chemical bisphenol A (“BPA”).  

As part of the Gaiam water bottle class action lawsuit settlement, Gaiam has agreed to establish an exchange program where people who purchased Gaiam aluminum water bottles can exchange them for new replacement bottles. Gaiam has agreed to pay all shipping and handling costs associated with the Gaiam water bottle exchange program.  

You’re considered a class member of the Gaiam aluminum water bottle class action lawsuit settlement if you purchased an aluminum water bottle manufactured or sold by Gaiam prior to October 1, 2010. A list of water bottles that are covered under the settlement can be found here.

 

In order to get a new replacement water bottle from the Gaiam class action settlement, all you have to do is submit a claim form, signed under penalty of perjury that you purchased a Gaiam aluminum water bottle, and include the completed claim form along with your current Gaiam aluminum water bottle in a shipping box or envelope affixed with the postage-paid return label Gaiam provides here. If you no longer have your Gaiam aluminum water bottle, you must send in a claim form and a receipt or proof of purchase with sufficient detail to prove that you purchased a Gaiam aluminum water bottle prior to October 1, 2010. All claims must be postmarked by March 22, 2011.

 

If you’d like to get out of the Gaiam water bottle class action settlement, you must mail your request to opt out by January 6, 2011.

    Gaiam Aluminum Water Bottle Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
    It’s really disappointing to see another trusted company have a BPA problem. Hopefully in the future more extensive tests will be taken so that these companies don’t have to go through the big media scares, and more importantly, so they don’t put their customers in danger. I was very happy that SIGG recalled their products when the BPA was detected and redesigned their liner. They handled the situation pretty well. Let’s hear it for going green!
