Case Name
Rotandi v. Miles Industries Ltd., Case No. 3:11-cv-02146-EDL, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California
Case Summary
The Valor fireplace settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit (Rotandi v. Miles Industries Ltd.) that accuses the fireplace manufacturer of concealing the fact that the fronts of the Valor brand sealed glass-fronted gas fireplaces can reach very high temperatures that may cause serious burns. The class action settlement was granted preliminary approval on August 16, 2013.
Miles Industries denies any wrongdoing but has agreed under the terms of the class action settlement to provide owners of residences in which Valor fireplaces were installed between January 1, 2007, and August 16, 2013, with a barrier screen, which complies with new CSA/ANSI standards that all manufacturers of gas fireplaces will be required to meet by 2015. The barrier screen will reduce the risk of burns by preventing direct contact with the glass front of the fireplace.
Final Hearing

Just curious, my daughter in law was severely burned at a hotel in her room by a glass front fireplace. Does she have recourse too?
