UPDATE for 12/29/09

 The first part of the TransUnion class action lawsuit settlement, six free months of credit monitoring, is being given out to those who registered. It appears that the cash portion of the TransUnion class action lawsuit settlement won’t pay out until sometime between September 2010 and October 2011. This is because all claims and expenses must be paid before anything left over in the settlement is paid out to qualified claimants. The email you may have received regarding the TransUnion class action lawsuit settlement is below.

Dear Class Member:

As part of the terms of your Class Action Settlement with TransUnion, you’ve received a six month subscription to TransUnion Credit Monitoring, fulfilled by TrueCredit. Register now and start enjoying the benefits of credit monitoring right away! You’ll get:

The ability to lock your credit report so third parties, such as lenders or other companies, will not be able to access your credit report without your consent (unless allowed by law);
Unlimited daily access to your Trans Union credit report and credit score; and
Credit monitoring with email notification of critical changes to your credit report.

Ready to get started?

Your registration number is <XXXXXXXXX>. Be sure to enroll soon as your registration number is only available for a limited time. Please note that our records indicate that you also registered for the potential cash benefit. A final determination as to whether there will be a distribution of the cash benefits and, if any, the amount of any distribution, will not occur before September 2010 and could occur as late as October 2011. You may visit the website www.ListClassAction.com for updates regarding this potential benefit.

Just click here and enter your registration number and you’ll be on your way to credit monitoring!

Sincerely,

TransUnion List Class Action

TCA Staff Tidbit: Wow, this one has some potential for every adult consumer out there. It’s super easy to sign up, and pretty much everyone qualifies, since most people have (or at one time in the past 10 years had) a credit card, bought a house, bought a car, got a student loan or department store credit card. So, what’s in it for YOU? Well, that’s easy. At a minimum, six months of free credit monitoring service. The interesting tidbit, is that if the expenses don’t get out of control, and a few million is left in the settlement fund, if you sign up for the option we recommend (Six months of credit monitoring and a potential cash payment), you’ll get a check in the mail AS WELL as six months of free credit monitoring. You also have the option to claim nine free months of enhanced credit monitoring, but that removes your right to any cash payment so we don’t recommend that option. It’s a roll of the dice whether any cash payment will go out, but why remove yourself from the chance? You have nothing to lose, and maybe a few bucks to gain. I signed up for the option we recommend. Head to the website and sign up. Make your claim!

UPDATE: On June 3, 2016, Top Class Actions viewers started receiving a second disbursement from the TransUnion class action settlement worth as much as $23.67.

    My husband and I received checks today in the amount of $23.67, also. There has been some talk that the checks are not legitimate because they say >for deposit only<. Has anyone heard anything like that? Also, that the settlement administrator has only a po box and not a physical address.

    1. Carlos says:

      Its a legit check. I dont understand why people always feel the need to post about a check not being legit.
