Unum Lawsuit Numbers Rise as Group Shares Plummet
By Andrea Gressman
The downward spiral of our economy has seen the value of many companies’ stocks plummet to new lows, and the Unum Group has seen the most severe effects as its shares have recently hit a 52-week low.
The Unum Group Reaches an All-time Low
The Financial News Network has stated that the disability insurance and special risk provider’s shares dropped to its lowest annual level to $20.24. Add to that an approximated 3.6 million shares, instead of the normal one-month volume of 4.1 million shares were actually traded.
Fluctuations of Unum Group shares have been present, oscillating between the low of $20.24 and the high of $27.16, according to the news source. During the past few weeks, there was consistency in the 200-day moving average, while there was a one-percent drop in the 50-day moving average.
The Unum Group Maintains Operations Across the World
The Unum Group maintains operations in the UK, U.S. and additional countries. It provides group life insurance, disability insurance, as well as additional benefits for people working in various industries. There have been numerous accusations against Unum, which may be contributing to the rough sliding of its shares. Most claims against Unum come from plaintiffs who allege the company failed to honor their part in paying out the benefits they were entitled to.
Other Unum Lawsuits Filed Against the Company for Benefit Denial
This happened to a North Carolina man who believed he was not paid the disability insurance benefits he was entitled to following an operation that failed to heal completely. Doctors’ reports conflicted each other concerning the plaintiff’s claim that his suffering intensified amidst Unum failing to provide him his entitled benefits.
Current and former employees around the nation have filed such Unum claim denial lawsuits against the insurance company, possibly causing more economic damage through falling share prices that the Unum Group continues to experience.
Other Unum lawsuits against the company have reared their heads, stating the insurance company halted its provisions of long-term benefits, one which includes the Unum lawsuit of a woman from Boswell, Pennsylvania who suffers from injuries to her brain.
As stated in the Tribune-Democrat, Susan G. Harris made the decision to file a Unum civil lawsuit against Unum Group in Johnstown, Pennsylvania’s U.S. District Court, arguing that the company deliberately postponed an investigation into her claims of disability and made seemingly unreasonable requests, according to her judgment.
Harris reportedly seeks payments of her benefits as she claims an inability to work due to her injury. She is also claiming receipt of Social Security disability payments, as stated by the news source.
