Lawsuits Over Wage & Hour Violations Grow in U.S. By Robert J. Boumis
You do your job, you get paid. This is not supposed to be a complicated process. And yet, despite this, lawsuits alleging wage and hour violations have increased by 400% since financial year 2000. What is a Wage And Hour Violation? Wage and hour violations are situations where an employer fails to pay employees properly. Most often, this takes the form of failing to pay for overtime. This problem often requires federal intervention, and is such a huge problem that the United States Department of Labor has established the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) to address these issues. This agency enforces the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, the law that ensures employers pay their employees. |

E! Fashion Police Writers File Unpaid Overtime Class Action Lawsuit By Jessica Tyner
It might seem like all glitz and glamour working for a hit television show, but it turns out the writers of E's "Fashion Police" claim they’ve never been paid for working overtime. One of the pillars of wage and hour lawsuits and impending class action lawsuits are claims of unpaid overtime. Not being paid for overtime is something that can impact any employee, from school cafeteria workers to writers for a hit show. Writing for TV is a career showcased on "30 Rock," but it seems the reality of the job isn’t always a Liz Lemon-infused good time.In total, 12 of the writers have complained to the Labor Standards Enforcement Division of California, which is for many workers the first step in claiming the wages they’ve rightfully earned. They’ve also gone on strike and are seeking a total of $1.5 million in overtime wages. According to one of the writers, they all want to go back to work, they enjoy writing for Fashion Police, and they simply want to get paid for the hours they’ve put in. This is an all too common complaint when workers are cheated out of their salaries. |
