Filing an Unum Lawsuit May Be Only Way to Recover Benefits

By Andrea Gressman

Unum lawsuitIf you have been denied by Unum for disability insurance benefits, filing a Unum lawsuit is one of the best and only options that you have to use against Unum. Unum is known for denying legitimate claims filed by their policyholders. When you file a Unum lawsuit, you may be able to receive compensation for your losses. Despite being one of the most well-known names in the industry, it does not mean that their decisions and practices are always legitimate. It is important that you protect your rights.

Unum Lawsuits of the Past

Unum has been under a great deal of criticism, which started in 2002 when the media started reporting the shady Unum practices of denying their policy holders legitimate insurance claims. It was revealed through the media coverage that Unum had set quotas that meant a certain number of claims must be denied in order to insure Unum’s profit margin stay intact. It was also revealed that Unum also offered incentives to their employees to deny these claims. They were distastefully referred to a “Vulture Awards.” The media coverage went on to uncover Unum’s gross misconduct. As a result, Unum became the subject of a number of Unum lawsuits filed by the federal government, private Unum lawsuit attorneys, and state regulators – all of which represented the many Americans who had become Unum’s victims.

Unum Lawsuit Details New Claim Denial Tactic: Social Security Disability

By Andrea Gressman

Unum disability insurance denialReverend Bob Hutchinson thought he was one of the lucky ones when it came to Unum and their history of denying legitimate benefit claims. When he fractured his spinal column and was completely disabled as a result of it, Unum approved his long-term disability claim. However, just nine months later, Mr. Hutchinson received a call from his Unum representative, which asserted that Mr. Hutchinson needed to apply for Social Security disability right away.

According to a recent statement by a long-term disability lawyer, Unum, as well as other long-term insurance providers, consider it common practice to have their policyholders apply for Social Security disability benefits to offset and then reduce the amount of Unum benefits they pay their disability benefits policyholder. Although many Unum policyholders have expressed a great deal of concern about this common Unum practice, the long-term disability lawyer says  it is legal for Unum to require this of their policyholder but adds more flame to the fire when it comes to Unum’s history of shady practices.

Ex-UnumProvident Claim Denial Specialists Remember 9/11

By John Curran

Unum disability insurance claim denial specialistWhile the anniversary for the horrific attack came more than a month ago, UnumProvident disability insurance claim denial specialists are beginning to speak out about the tactics the company took after the 9/11 terrorist act, as well as what they do these days.

UnumProvident disability insurance lawsuit lawyers noted that many specialists were told to try and find reasons to deny claims of those hurt at the Twin Towers. A manager told one that because the claimant now lived out-of-state, they wouldn't be able to see the site and couldn't develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It continues evidence that Top Class Actions has reported on that disability insurance firms often try to fight mental health-based claims.

Unum Disability Insurance Better Than Federal Alternative?

By John Curran

Unum disability insuranceUnum disability insurance claim denial lawsuit lawyers are not fans of companies that try to keep people from the benefits that they deserve. Some disability insurance providers have allegedly tried to keep beneficiaries from receiving their monthly payments. Two of the many tactics include citing a lack of physical evidence in mental health cases and technicalities in others.

Is there a program that could actually be worse? Yes. In fact, you have to pay into it if you work a full-time job no matter what. Social Security's supplemental security income (SSI) program is the federal equivalent of disability insurance. It is a difficult enough process that there are specialist law firms solely for the purpose of getting benefits.
