NorvascMen and women with low to moderate coronary artery disease often have problems controlling their blood pressure as the heart tries to pump more blood to deal with the condition. People who take the anti-hypertensive medication Norvasc may be at risk for Stevens Johnson Syndrome, a reaction to medication that can prove lethal for some.

It is unclear why the drug, which is also used to treat angina, can cause the Stevens Johnson Syndrome, but those who are diagnosed with the autoimmune condition can face serious problems. In Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS), the body attacks itself, and specifically the mucus membranes including the eyes and portions of the skin. In extreme cases, Norvasc side effects can lead to toxic epidermal necrolysis, where significant percentages of the skin die off and patients require grafts to repair the damage.

The syndromes most often occur as Norvasc side effects when a patient takes a new dosage or begins taking the medication for the first time. Men and women who have been diagnosed with severe coronary artery disease should also be wary at those times for the potential of a heart attack or worsening angina in patients. Even if those complications do not occur, swelling occurs in more than 8 percent of patients who take Norvasc, and may result in nerve damage depending on the severity.

Patients who are looking to avoid the progression of Stevens Johnson Syndrome should know the warning signs of the condition. While a rash on the extremities may represent an otherwise innocuous condition, the combination of that and flu-like symptoms of fever and chills could mean that there is a problem. As SJS progresses, there will be inflammation of the throat and potentially lesions. As with any potential adverse event, it is important for patients to discuss symptoms of any possible Norvasc side effects with their doctors.

Those who were unaware of the possibility of these autoimmune disorders may want to consider consulting with an SJS lawsuit lawyer. An experienced attorney can help side effects victims establish whether or not they are eligible to pursue damages. A free case review with one is available to those who visit the Stevens Johnson (SJS) & Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) Class Action Lawsuit Investigation and fill out the submission form there. Recovering from these syndromes can take years and limit one’s ability to work or enjoy a decent quality of life. Don’t delay any legal remedy your case may merit and get a free consultation with an SJS lawsuit lawyer today.
