SensaSprinkle some “magic” crystals on you food and magically lose weight? Sounds like a scam, yet thousands of consumers have bought Sensa, a weight-loss system that claims overweight consumers can lose 30 pounds or more simply by sprinkling its special weight-loss crystals on their food, all without dieting or exercise. Now a federal class action lawsuit is challenging these claims, alleging Sensa Products and Dr. Alan R. Hirsch are selling snake oil.

The Sensa class action lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of San Francisco, claims Dr. Hirsch and his company trick consumers into buying Sensa crystals by using marketing claims not backed by scientific proof.

According to its sales pitch, consumers simply have to sprinkle Sensa onto their meals and snacks to lose weight. The Sensa sprinkles, or “Tastants,” are supposedly clinically proven to help speed up the process that triggers your body’s “I feel full” signal so that you eat less and feel more satisfied. People who use Sensa, the website says, can lose 30 pounds or more, without changing their diet or exercising. These claims, Sensa says, are supposedly backed by one of the “largest clinical studies ever conducted on a non-prescription weight-loss product.” The Sensa class action lawsuit, however, says these claims are false, misleading and unsubstantiated without any competent scientific evidence to support them.

According to the Sensa lawsuit, Dr. Alan R. Hirsch, M.D., who appears in promotional materials for Sensa, may be a board-certified neurologist, but he is a also a “particularly sophisticated hustler, one with a medical degree and a thick stack of junk science to support the claim his magic crystals are ‘clinically proven.’”

Dr. Hirsch has been able to get by with this, the class action lawsuit charges, only because over-the-counter weight-control products have not been regulated as drugs since 1994, when Congress largely removed supplements from FDA regulation.

The Sensa class action lawsuit claims Sensa is a scam, and that Dr. Hirsch and his company have violated various California laws, including those dealing with false advertising and unfair business practices.

    SENSA Class Action Lawsuit
Not only is this stuff JUNK – Try cancelling your “subscription”… SEVERAL times I have called to cancel their auto-subscription and NO ONE ANSWERS the phone! And when you try to cancel on line the page just freezes and you can’t cancel. I am irrate over this FRAUD company.

    • Bebe March 10, 2014

      Hello All,
First & foremost, I am NOT affiliated with Sensa in any way, shape or form. But, by reading some of these comments, it seems I am the only one to have success with this product. I haven’t had any of the side effects mentioned in these posts and I lost 36 pounds in 4 months. I stopped using the product in the 4th month because it didn’t seem of the same consistency as the previous months. I did not buy direct from Sensa, but from Amazon. It’s too bad none of the people making the comments were able to lose weight and believe me I know how frustrating things can be. I have spent a fortune on weight loss products, books, programs, clinics, etc, etc, etc! All with the same result. So when this product worked for me, I was stoked. I don’t know if a positive comment will be posted with all these negatives but it’s worth a shot!

    SENSA Class Action Lawsuit
The “Free Trial” email does not mention an apparent “auto billing” after 60 days. I noticed the CC bill of $89 at the beginning of May, yet no product. I am working with the CC company to get this reversed.
    SENSA is a SCAM.
Why can they be shut down ?!

    • Christine Schiller January 27, 2014

I onlu wanted a trial and I had to pay for shipping and they too $149 out of mychecking account with out concent!
I was really pissed and told them to put it back ! And they did not

  • Anonymous August 28, 2011

This product made me physically sick and the seller on Amazon would not accept refund. I cannot find out who these people are or what is in this stuff that made me sick. AVOID!

  • Anonymous September 15, 2011

Just pass my 30 day trial (9/10) )Saturday and the following day after using Sensa that morning my sight started going Hazy and very sensitive to light. My blood pressure is almost 20 pts above my norm. My breathing slightly abnormal. You do feel tightness in the chest and No did not lose any weight on this product. All week long, been to my eye dr, retina specialist, and my physician. Did this to check my vitals and make sure this is not permanent damage to my vision.
I wouldn’t recommend this product to any one. Diet and Exercise I recommend. I’m hoping my sight comes back to normal so I can get back in the gym.

    • Evelyn McNeal January 21, 2014

I stopped suing Sensa back in early 2013, by then I had not seen any lost by that time and because I had began to have this taste in my mouth I couldn’t get rid of. And I had no weigbt lost results. I started to also have some vision problems, I started to have light flashes in my eyes. I went to the eye Dr. He could not tell me why light flashed in my eyes, and my vision has dropped tremendously. I would not have thought that it could have been caused my the use of the Sensa. However the does not work, it seems to becausing more damage than what it suppose to be meant for.

How do we hook up on a lawsuit? They’re calling people with a collection agency. We need to stop this. You don’t logically expect to be hit with a $90 a month subscription when ordering A SAMPLE! Please. Tell me we’re getting together on this.

  • Anonymous March 21, 2012

Just lost my $90 to Sensa’s “pre-collection” agency today. What a scam. How can we stop them?

  • Anonymous April 29, 2012

I would like to know how can I get my money back from Sensa, it has been over a year. I have sent letters and call them and they have not contacted me.

  • Anonymous July 12, 2012

Count me in on a class action lawsuit. I had the same experience as the others. Please give us all info required to get a lawyer started on this.

    • Charolette Baker January 9, 2014

I was fool enough to try this product twice. The first time I tried it, I thought I wasn’t using it right or not using enough. I waited 2 months and then bought it again. I did not lose any weight even though I did try to eat less just to lose the weight faster. I want in on this lawsuit because for the first time in years I thought I had found something that would work. Very disappointed and mad as heck.

  • Anonymous August 11, 2012

Count me in too, on the lawsuit. This company has added additional unneeded stress. I must get my money back!!! Very deceitful. I did not sign up for $89.00 to be billed to me every month!!!! The product is bogus.

  • Anonymous September 15, 2012

I also received an email. It speaks of a settlement in California state. Does this apply to everyone or only those in California State? Also, how can we tell if it is real and not phishing?
I have a different web site listed in the email I recieved
    http://www.weightlosssettlement.com/
and on that page there is a “Claim” “”tab at the top of the page leading to this page:

neither of us felt this produce provided us any success in our weight loss goals but did lighten up our wallets.

  • Anonymous September 18, 2012

Sarah and I were dissapointed in this product and the only thing lighter ur wallet.

  • Anonymous September 18, 2012

I became very ill after using this product. My stomach is messed up as a result of this product, i now have shortness of breath, and suffer from leg cramps. I did not have these health problems before using Sensa, so there for i believe it all stems from the us of this product. I wish to have my name listed in the class action lawsuit. I am very disappointed in this product, and the suffering i go through from using it.

  • Anonymous September 18, 2012

I agree with all of the above comments. I also lost money and would like to get it back. It is sad that companies and people take advantage of those needing and wanting help with their health problems.

  • Anonymous September 18, 2012

I tried Sensa for the first month, and all it did was give me headaches, stomache and the shits! I didn’t lose any weight at all. Do not take this product if you are thinking about using it because it does not work!!.They say they’ll send you your first month free, if you pay for shipping and handling about $9.95, then when you receive the box it will have your first month and second month in it. So after one month exactly they will bill you on your credit card $89.95 for the second month supply. So if you don’t want the second month, make sure you send it back well before your first month is up because they will charge you even before the month is up on your credit card. And trying to get it refunded is a real pain in the neck. I had to be very persistent in order to get my money back. But then you have to send the whole thing back to them and you pay for return postage of another$9.95. So you still are out $20.00 from this whole thing. So save yourself the aggrevation and don’t even start on it. I would like to put a lawsuit against them for this product and it’s negative effects.

  • Anonymous September 19, 2012

I used sensa a couple of months ago, and all it did was to give me headaches, stomaches, bloating, etc. and I did not lose any weight. How this scam works is that you are suppose to get your first month free just pay $9.95 for S &H. They send you your first month and second month on the agreement that after the one month is up, they will charge you on your credit card for the 2nd month of $89.95. If you are not satisfied with the results you can return it for another $9.95 return mail to them. The problem is that even before the 1rst month is up, they will charge you the $89.95, and when you try to get a refund, it’s like trying to talk to a brick wall. I did get my money back after being very very persistant, but it wasdifficult. I still am having problems because of my using the Sensa. I would not recommend it for anyone who is thinking about using it. IT DOES NOT WORK!! All it is is cellulose crystals, etc.

  • Anonymous September 19, 2012

we got took, did nothing for me.

  • Anonymous September 19, 2012

On the bottom their is a your option. If you click file form you will come to another page that will ask you your purchase and control number. If you do not have them, you can fill out another form and they will reserch this for you. Good Luck !!

  • Anonymous September 20, 2012

Tried it ,hate it and there is a taste

  • Anonymous September 20, 2012

I did not like the way it made me feel. And I did not lose any weight at all. It was totally a rip off.

  • Anonymous September 20, 2012

I tried it and done exactly what it said to do. I even carried it when I went out to eat. NO GOOD RESULTS!!!! They claim it doesn’t have a taste, but it does. I still have alittle left, but it doesn’t work so I want be using it I was hoping to lose some weight, but that didn’t happen..

    • marshella January 16, 2014

Sensa didn’t do nothing for me not at all seem like I was getting bigger & bigger & it start making me feel bad so I stop taking it my stomach always was hurting & my head.

  • Anonymous September 20, 2012

I tried for several months, all it give me its high blood sugar level. My dr. been so apset when i show him this crystal powder. How naive i am?! for several months they charge me $89.99 even be told to pay just for shipping 9.99originaly. And finally they do not want to cancel my order.

  • Anonymous September 22, 2012

Cancel out your credit card so they cannot charge on it any more and apply for a new one. I know it is a hassle, but it is the only way to make them stop. To get your money back, be as persistant as they were in getting your money away from you. Just keep on calling them, and talk to a manager not the customer service. They may ignore your calls and give you the run-around, but persistance does pay off in the end. f this doesn’t work tell them you will go to the better business bureau and complain about them, and file action against them. That will get therir ears opened a bit more.

  • Anonymous September 25, 2012

When I started on Sensa my blood pressure shot to the roof. Also made my sugars go so out of wack, b and i sprinkled on my food, never loss any weight what so ever. This product is a joke, do not buy into it. If you have any health issues, do not take it .

  • Anonymous October 11, 2012

I took Sensa for a year or more and instead of me losing weight i gain weight with know symptoms.

  • Anonymous October 12, 2012

I worked for this company before walking out! A very large percentage of incoming calls are health related where customers call in reporting side effects!!!

  • Anonymous October 12, 2012

Many customers call in confused because they were charged full price instead of the trial offer price! There is a default for rush shipping that a customer must DESELECT in order to receive the trial offer. Obviously, this is done purposely knowing that many customers won’t notice.

  • Anonymous October 16, 2012

I called sensa to cancel this product because it does not work and it made my daughter sick and not only that, she did not lose weight. Also when I cancelled my orders, they still continue to bill me. They were trying to convince me to continue using and that they were going to send me extra orders. I would not recommend this to anyone. My friend wanted to try it and I told her that it did not work.

  • Anonymous October 16, 2012

I had bad side effects from using Sensa and almost killed my dog by feeding him the left overs that had Sensa on them.
I bought the Sensa from an infomercial in Feb 2012 but I didn’t start to take the product until May and then quit and restarted it in July. I went to the doctor a few times and the doctor ordered a chemically induced stress test in August and I ended up in the ER two days before the test for chest pains because my doctor told me not to wait if I was having them again, just go to the ER. I stopped taking the Sensa a little over a month ago and I still have some of the problems just not as much. I contacted both Sensa on multiple occasions and was told to contact the company I bought it from to get a refund. Here is that correspondence:

How do I get my questions about Sensa answered considering that I have tried asking the makers of Sensa and I keep getting the same thing… hung up on, disconnected and no answers. I have had some serious side effects from using their product that I bought off of your website and now I am coming to you for answers. I am not the only one. There are others out there who have had serious side effects and I am sure that they want answers too. I contacted the Sensa website and the Contact us chat line and waited my turn and told them that I would like to be reimbursed for my purchase as well as the medical expense that I have incurred as a result from using their product. I waited my turn and when it was my turn and I was next in line and “Gino” was typing, I was disconnected from their website. I called the 866-514-2554 and had to be put in que for a phone call back so I gave them my cell. When they did call, I was not able to hear anyone. I finally got in touch with a representative after the third attempt and I was told to get my refund from ShopNBC because that is where I purchased it and they refused to acknowledge the side effects. I got dodge at every angle when it came to talking about the side effects of Sensa.
I have had several dizzy spells, have nearly passed out 3 or 4 times and one of those times I was at Wal-Mart and had to have someone come up there and get me because I couldn’t drive. I have had kidney pains, chest pains, trouble breathing, stomach trouble, 1 trip to the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack. My doctors now probably think that I am a hypochondriac because of all of the things that I have been having problems with and because there is “Nothing harmful in Sensa” I didn’t think to tell them that I was taking it. The only one I said anything to was my Neurologist. You should probably research the side effects of Sensa before selling this product any more.

I am on disability Iuse sensa trying to loss weight and did not loss anything. I put it on everything i ate and it did nothing

  • Anonymous October 27, 2012

All I recieved in my trial offer was the two supply and a DVD. No where to cancel, return or any other contact info. I tried repeatedly to call to get return info with no avail. Once I saw the ingredients I knew I wasn’t using it. Silica is one, that is what comes in the little packets that warns: DO NOT EAT Thier product is also dangerous if you are glutant intolerant also soy or milk intolerant. But do they tell you this NO!! I did not know they were changing my bank account until I got a statemnt. I called the number on my bank statement and finally good a person. She said she couldn’t refund my money and I couldn’t refuse an order. I asked to speak to a superviser and she tried to sell me more product. Then aftering getting rude with her she put me on hold for 20 minutes, I then called back then was on hold for 30 minutes waiting for a supervisor. And she still would not refund my first shipment. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This place is unethical and needs to be shut down.

  • Anonymous November 3, 2012

I used the product and had success with it. I know a lot of people with various healt problems who also use Sensa and have had great success.. …. Ever since the McDonald’s lady got rich for stupidity, people have tried to get rich while making other people pay for their mistakes. LISTEN to the terms and conditions or read them online before agreeing to the purchase!!!!

took it, got sick, went to doctor, showed him what I was taking, he sent to his testing facility and told me not to ingest this stuff, it is not safe for human consumption. There are a lot of mixtures that are toxic when mixed together. I stopped taking it. He is actually taking this to the courts, this mixture can kill people.
    do not take this!!!!

  • rita callerson June 6, 2013

I tried this for an experiment for my science glass in college and when testing the compounds and chemical bases, this stuff is poison to humans. Rat poison is actually safer to take than this stuff. It has toxins that causes all types of problems. My professor and I re-tested the sample 12 times getting the same result. We have turned this over to the FDA, & the Attorney Generals office along with poison control.
Please do not take this product.

I used Sensa and nothing moved in weight but a few pounds (2). I stopped using Sensa
becasue of my blood pressure and headaches I was getting. I am a very healthy person,
and I stopped when symptoms appeared that I never had before. My blood pressure
always have been 120/80 and not it goes up and down 150/80; 160/80. So,
I stopped all Sensa and put it on my shelf.

I decided to try Sensa Feburary of 2012, after using it a couple weeks my stomach started to feel funny and I decided to stop using it. (glad I did cause March 6th I found out I was pregnant) sent the stuff back like they said too. I know they billed me still for what I sent back (my *free* trial) but lucky for me I didn’t have the money in my account. they owe me nothing but they are still claiming I owe them. haha not going to happen! I don’t think I need to file a claim but will if I get collection notices.

  • monica j February 22, 2014

I used sensa for 6 months, and I got my settlement which is 15 dollars. Now this is the true scam, how could this be. I am very disappointed when people take advantage of others that truly did not benefit from the lawsuit. What a shame. Shame on Correa lawyers $15 dollars. Really!

  • Janis Sailee February 25, 2014

I used sensa for over a two years I noticed when I got to the 4 & 5 packets everytime I sprinler on my food my heart would start to rasing and I had a really hard time breathing. I went to doctor after doctor and finley to the ER. When I stopped using it the side effects stopped ! what it cost me in doctors was outragous.

  • smith February 27, 2014

They tell me the checks were mailed out fore I think the highest amount$15.00,they denied my claim because they said sense wasn’t sold by a drug store in my area I live in a like rural area where their are no stores and got it from Walgreen’s in another city, but I’m sure the lawyer got fat all I wanted was my money back fore the 3 packages I bought fore 49.00 dollars lesson learned don’t buy everything that sounds good it might be to good to be true.

For those of you calling to cancel and cannot get through call back and use the option 2 on keypad to purchase and like magic someone immediately answers. Ask to speak to supervisor and get her/his name and write everything down she tells you. Get RMA number to return product and keep fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly. Good Luck!
