Krist Oil CITGO Class Action Settlement

By Kimberly Mirando

CITGOKrist Oil Company, which owns 67 CITGO convenience stores across Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota, has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations it violated the law by printing too many digits on customers’ credit/debit card receipts. If you used a debit or credit card at a CITGO gas station owned by Krist Oil between 2006 and 2009, you may be eligible to receive $100 for each transaction that violated the law thanks to the class action lawsuit settlement.

The Krist Oil settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, styled Seppanen et al., v. Krist Oil Company, that alleges Krist Oil violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by issuing electronically printed receipts that displayed more than the last five digits of customers’ credit or debit card numbers or the expiration dates.

You’re considered a class member of the Krist Oil CITGO settlement if you used a credit or debit card at any Krist Oil Company CITGO gas station located throughout Northern Michigan, Northern Wisconsin, and one store in Two Harbors, Minnesota, and received an unlawfully printed receipt at any time between December 1, 2006 and November 20, 2009.

Under the settlement agreement, you can receive $100 per eligible purchase if you can provide proof of purchase, such as a copy of a non-FACTA compliant receipt or a copy of your credit card or debit card statement. If you can’t provide supporting documents, you can still file a claim to receive a flat $100, regardless of how many transactions you made. These amounts are subject to a pro-rata share if more claims are made than funds are available in the settlement fund.

To claim your share of the Krist Oil CITGO Class Action Lawsuit Settlement, you must submit a claim form along with supporting documents either online by June 4, 2011, or via mail by June 19, 2011. Claim forms and further information on your rights can be found at www.KristOilSettlement.com.
