KitchenAid mixer class action settlementA federal class action lawsuit filed in New York claims Whirlpool KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens not only break in as little as two cleaning cycles, but that using the self-cleaning cycle five or six times “damages the ovens beyond repair.”

According to the Whirlpool KitchenAid class action lawsuit, “The Ovens feature a self-cleaning capability that, upon the first or second use, damages the control panel as a result of excessive heat, requiring costly repairs in order to begin reusing the Oven. After the fifth or sixth use of the self-cleaning cycle, the heat from the self-cleaning cycle damages the control panel beyond repair.”

Whirlpool sells these defective KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens at major U.S. retailers, including Home Depot, Sears and P.C. Richard & Sons, with a one-year factory warranty for parts and labor and a five-year warranty for specified parts if they become defective because of workmanship. These warranties are virtually useless, the class action lawsuit claims, because “the damage resulting from the self-cleaning cycle is not covered by the 5-year warranty” and “consumers often do not use the self-cleaning feature during the first year, since the Oven has not yet been heavily used and dirtied.”

The KitchenAid class action lawsuit claims Whirlpool knew about the serious nature of the defective KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens that required costly repairs and ultimately result in the destruction of the oven, yet continued to sell the ovens. Numerous customers have alerted Whirlpool about the problems with the KitchenAid self-cleaning cycle, yet “to this day, [Whirlpool] continues to conceal material information from users, consumer, and the public.”

The Whirlpool KitchenAid class action lawsuit is brought on behalf anyone who purchased a KitchenAid self-cleaning oven on or after June 3, 2008 at retail price for personal use in the State of New York. It is seeking class certification, refunds to class members, compensatory and other damages, and an order requiring Whirlpool to immediately cease its wrongful conduct and enjoin it from continuing to conceal the defect.

The case is Richard Wolfson vs. Whirlpool Corporation in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

    We used the clean cycle twice, it stopped mid cycle, couldn’t open door. We were charged $400+ TO REPLACE FUSE AND HIGH TEMPERATURE SWITCH. WHAT A RIP OFF. NO ANSWER FROM BBB.

    the self cleaning oven is useless we have to scrub by hand it takes hours to get clean. we paid an extra 200.00

    I paid $3,000.00 for a downdraft KA range. It has the aqua clean system, that does not work. I have to scrub with a stainless steel pad to get it somewhat clean. The digital control shows error message lots of times. I turn it off and the stove continues to work. I have had the range about 3 years and so disappointed with it.

    Kitchenaid electric range purchased new, 2016. Bake element “blew apart”, it was replaced. Another oven problem occurred, apparently the “upper oven exceeded temperature limit”, it was set at 325°. My cheesecake was ruined. Called service. So done with kitchenaid!

    I’m waiting on service of my KA double oven that burned the controls after cleaning the oven! I’m in Massachusetts is there a class action suit other than this one and if not how do we get one started?

    My 10 year oven just blew out the window of my oven. They are telling me my unit is not covered because it’s not the same one

    I also have a built in KitchenAid double microwave and oven, which I purchased in 2016. Same as everyone else, each time I use the self clean, the oven is dead. If there is a class action suit, I would like to be part of the suit.

      Me too. We used the self cleaning aqua lift once and after that if we turned the oven on to 400 degrees or even less there was a fire in the bottom part of the oven! We put it out with a fire extinguisher once and called the fire department. This is documented by them on July 3, before our warranty was up. Due to COVID and whatever else, we could not reach KitchenAid to report this in time before the “warranty” was up. Warranty is useless.

    I will never ever buy a Kitchen Aid product again. The Kitchen Aid refrigerator ice maker arrived broken. Kitchen aid toaster oven arrived broken. I had to send back to Kitchen Aid. The kitchen aid dishwasher had a top and bottom drawer. The top drawer facing actually came off the disher washer.every time i opened the drawer. The electric stove with aqualift cleaning is a joke. It does not work. I am too old to manually clean the oven. Kitchen aid said if i use cleaning products it will void the warranty. I just purchased a bosch dishwasher. I hope I have better luck with Bosch.
