UPDATE: Class Members are reporting that Settlement Checks are in the mail!

The claim filing deadline for the Classmates.com class action lawsuit settlement has been extended following a revised settlement that provides more money to Class Members. Class Members now have until November 18, 2011 to file claims to receive an estimated $10 in cash, plus other benefits, from the Classmates.com settlement.

The Classmates.com settlement will resolve a series of class action lawsuits, entitled In re Classmates.com Consolidated Litigation, that alleged Classmates.com sent emails to subscribers that violated the law and the privacy rights of subscribers.

Under the revised Classmates.com class action settlement, Classmates.com will provide $2.5 million in refunds to Class Members who submit valid claim forms. The actual amount Class Members can receive will depend upon how many people file valid claim forms, but, based on the participation rates in the Prior Settlement, it is estimated that each participating Class Member will receive about $10.

Class Members of the Classmates.com settlement include all persons residing in the U.S. who were registered with or subscribed to www.classmates.com at any time beginning October 30, 2004 through February 23, 2011. To receive a cash payment from the Classmates.com settlement, you must submit a valid claim form online at www.cmemailsettlement.com or postmarked no later than November 18, 2011

If you submitted a claim (either for a coupon or for a cash payment) in response to the Prior Settlement, you do not need to submit a new claim form.

All Class Members of the Classmates.com class action settlement will receive email notifications containing a Claim Number and Control Number, which are required to file a claim. If you do not receive this email by October 18, 2011 and believe you are a Class Member, you can email the Settlement Administrator at claimforms@cmemailsettlement.com to request a notice and claim form.

Detailed information about how to file a valid claim form for the Classmates.com Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found in our Open Lawsuit Settlements section.

They lied and said I had been a member since 2003. I joined briefly that year since we were having a reunion and have recently been suckered again into rejoining. I can hardly wait for my three months to be up so I can cancel.

It appears the main problem is their continual renewal policy. I went through this with them a few years ago. You can avoid it but it takes a little work. First, look to the bottom of any of their pages and click on Terms of Service. When that page comes up click on #9 (Termination/Cancellation). When you read this, everything sounds great, in fact, for the subscriber: pretty good; but its just words. The real culprit is further up the page, on 2-B (PAID SERVICES/Automatic Renewal Program). Here is where you agreed to let them renew your subscription automatically at the end of the term — even if you cancel. [The cancellation doesnt take effect until after the first term — one year.] In addition to canceling, you must go to Account and change your renewal status. Go to Account, then click on Account and Billing; change your renewal status from Automatic to Manual. Heres where they get you. Read the final sentence carefully, which reads: Please note that changing your renewal option in this way will only stop future automatic renewals of your subscription and will not impact any automatic renewals that occurred prior to the date of your status change. In short, they automatically have you for one year; and, if you dont jump through their hoops to cancel, it goes on and on.

the way I got out of there trap was to report my credit card lost and request a new card with a new number. that was the end of my problem with classmates

  4. Holly Girard says:

I received a check in the mail yesterday for $3.93. I wonder how much others received and how much the lawyers got. Settlement was $2.5 million. That wasn’t nearly what I paid in for this service.

I naively signed up for classmates.com hoping to find an old friend. I have a twenty year reunion coming up later this year. They made me fill out a lot of information. Right away, there were red flags, they made me fill out my social security number. Then I received a picture of my high school from an old 1978 yearbook page. Only one problem, I graduated in 1992, not 1978. Then when I tried to say hi to my old classmates, I noticed that they weren’t really communicating with me. It seems to be a fraud.

Trying to unsubscribe and can not make contact..what do I do? I do not care about the THREE year cost they credit carded me for, I just do NOT. Want them in my credit card acct. I do NOT even want them period.

I filed my claim in August and have not heard anything about it since then. How do I check on the status of my claim?

There needs to be another suit instigated against them for failing to make it plain to subscribers that they will not terminate their paid enrollment no matter how many times you request them to discontinue your account. They will keep billing you yearly automatically even after you tell them to stop.

Right now they owe me 78.00 plus interest and if I get billed again ourtrage can’t begin to describe what I will feel. I see others are having this problem. These people should serve prison time.
