Several packageArtic Ice, Reddy Iced ice companies have reached a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit settlement over allegations they conspired together to fix and raise the prices of packaged ice between 2001 and 2008. As a result, anyone who bought packaged ice and/or ice blocks from Arctic Glacier, Reddy Ice or The Home City Ice Company during that time period can file a claim to receive a refund under the class action settlement.

The packaged ice antitrust settlement will resolve several class action lawsuits filed against Arctic Glacier, Home City Ice and Reddy Ice that allege they violated antitrust laws by conspiring to raise, fix, maintain or stabilize the packaged ice markets. As a result, direct purchasers of packaged ice were injured by paying more for packaged ice than they would have if the illegal price-fixing conspiracy wasn’t in place.

Home City Ice was the first Defendant to settle the price-fixing allegations, agreeing to pay $13.5 million into a class action settlement fund and cooperate in prosecuting the remaining Defendants. The Home City Ice class action settlement was approved February 22, 2011. (Class Members have already been notified of the Home City Ice settlement.)

On March 30, 2011, Arctic Glacier settled its portion of the packaged ice price-fixing class action lawsuit by agreeing to pay $12.5 million into a class action settlement fund. If the $12.5 million Arctic Glacier class action settlement is approved, it will be combined with the $13.5 million Home City Ice class action settlement.

Class Members of the Arctic Glacier class action settlement include all persons who directly purchased packaged ice in the United States from Arctic Glacier, Reddy Ice or Home City Ice Company, or their subsidiaries or affiliates, between January 1, 2001 and March 6, 2008.

Under the Arctic Glacier settlement, Class Members can file a claim to receive a refund of any packaged ice and/or ice blocks they purchased from the Defendants if they file a claim no later than November 26, 2011.
