CA Hooters Waitresses Win Class Action Settlement
By Sarah Pierce
A class action lawsuit settlement has been reached with several Sacramento-area Hooters that will affect roughly 400 current and former Hooters employees.
The Hooters waitress class action settlement will resolve allegations that the popular restaurant chain violated numerous California labor laws, including failing to provide rest breaks, failing to pay employees for all work performed, making employees pay for customers who walk out on checks, and more.
Under the settlement agreement, Hooters has agreed to relax certain uniform requirements, guarantee break times, pay employees for all Hooters-related work, provide lockers for employees, and stop holding them responsible for customers who do not pay.
The details of the financial portion of the Hooters waitress settlement have not been disclosed, but nearly 400 current and former Hooters employees will be compensated, according to the waitresses’ attorney.
“This settlement has succeeded in vindicating the women and establishes clear, defined procedures to ensure that no current or future employee of the franchise will ever suffer the indignities endured by former employees of Hooters,” their attorney said in a statement.
