Court Approves Kenmore, LG Refrigerator Class Action Settlement

A federal court has approved a class action lawsuit settlement with LG that will provide “complete reimbursement” to consumers who purchased certain LG and Kenmore-branded French Door Refrigerators and had to pay to repair a defect that caused their interior lights to remain on when the doors were closed.

The LG refrigerator settlement covers more than 600,000 consumers who alleged in a class action lawsuit, entitled McLennan v. LG Electronics USA, Inc., that several LG refrigerator models had a faulty design that caused the interior lights to remain on even when the refrigerator doors were closed, resulting in overheating and food spoilage.

The LG refrigerator class action settlement will provide Class Members reimbursement of all out-of-pocket expenses they paid for parts and labor to repair the light issue for 10 years from the date of the original retail purchase of the refrigerator. The class action lawsuit settlement also provides an extended warranty that covers in-home refrigerator repair performed by LG and, in some cases, the cost of a replacement refrigerator.

In approving the LG refrigerator class action lawsuit settlement, U.S. District Judge William J. Martini said, “The Settlement in this case provides for both the complete reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for repairs fixing the Light Issue, as well as a warranty for ten years from the date of refrigerator purchase. It would be hard to imagine a better recovery for the Class had the litigation gone to trial. Because Class Members will essentially receive all of the relief to which they would have been entitled after a successful trial, this factor weighs heavily in favor of settlement.”

Class Members of the LG refrigerator class action settlement include U.S. residents who currently own or owned one or more of the defective LG or Kenmore French Door Refrigerators with a model number listed on page 1 of the class action settlement notice.

To receive your cash reimbursement from the LG, Kenmore refrigerator class action settlement, you must submit a claim form and proof of repair to the Settlement Administrator no later than November 7, 2012.

    Our entire Lighting set melted down while we were out and the fridge was over hot. Threw out food. Will never buy a kenmore again as the execs knew about this issue and it could have hurt our family. would love to have a class action lawsuit in the us.

    We purchased refrigerator, Kenmore – Sears Model 795.72483.412, for about 2,000USD from the Sears Appliance Store in Orlando. The store closed short after that. We got suspicious when our food started spoiling, so I purchased two thermometers and discovered that temperature inside was higher than normal recommended levels. There is no number to call for warranties, you have to call a repair technician and pay them 99 USD for the service call. The technician said there was nothing wrong with the refrigerator and blamed us for placing the refrigerator too close to the back wall. So, we moved the refrigerator to a more open area, and 95 days later (after the paid service call), the refrigerator temperature increased, and the freezer compartment completely thawed. I examined the diagnostic signal on the back electronic board, and it indicates compressor failure. We are about to throw away the refrigerator because it is a just large piece scrap now one year after purchase. We called Kenmore and they told us to call Sears. They are playing shameless games with us. NEVER BUY ANYTHING from LG, or KENMORE or SEARS.

      I purchased the best Sears Kenmore elite 3 years ago and the compressor went called public service which I have a service plan and told us they would not touch it to notify you well we did we had to $485.94 for parts and labor and another 150.00 for them to look at it before ordering parts well we waited a month without a refrigerator and they would not come earlier because a part a screw did not come on told him to put the same screw back on and come sooner had alit of cancelled appointments made by them finally after a month snd half the repair man came snd fixed this I want my money back thst I had to put out I purchased a Sears Kenmore not a LG which you put on as a compressor and charged us big bucks for a Sears so I want my money back of 485.94 plus 150.00
      As soon as possible as I had. No money as I am on a fixed income had to put this on my charge please reimburse asap thank you

    My 5 year old LG made Kenmore just quit. I am living out of coolers 5 days before Christmas. The fact that there was a class action suit and I am no longer covered by it is extra frustrating. The execs that allow this kind of product to keep being sold are a special kind of evil. As a senior citizen this machine should have lasted the rest of my life.

    Purchased Kenmore Elete refrigerator with LG compressor in it July 2018. On November 4,2022 the compressor went out along with evaporator fan. Repairman came out November 17th. He had to order parts. Different repairman Came back on December 2nd. He installled new compressor but it would not run because it wouldn’t match with mother board (so he says). Wrong evaporator fan was sent so couldn’t be installed. He said he needed to order new mother board and correct evaporator fan. He didn’t seem to know what he was doing. On December 12th same man came back. He installed new motherboard. The evaporator fan motor that arrived had a broke mounting bracket.(I think he must have dropped it because it did not appear broke before he tried to installed it). He plugged it in and he thought it was running. He said it will take 24 hours to cool down. He went out to his van to leave. About 2 minutes later the evaporator fan kicked on and was making very loud sound. I went out to get him in driveway and he came back in. Said evaporator fan mounting bracket isn’t holding correctly and needs to be reordered. First available appointment to come back December 23rd!!!! We can never get ahold of anyone to take care of this. We have already paid for parts. Refrigerator is not cooling a bit. We are extremely frustrated!!

    I know law sue can take years and Sears/Kenmore defective French door refrigerator with LG compressor, just trying to compensate the defective unit people bought between 2014 – 2017 for around $1200 per unit.
    Now, we need a new class action against Sears/Kenmore/LG for the defective compressor which causing us a trouble.
    They keep using defective LG compressor nevertheless court order them to settle previous class actions.
    They caused thousands of people headache and trouble fixing they defective refrigerator and more.
    I filed a small claim through my local superior court but They refused to take the registered mail and returned back to the court unclaimed.
    According to the data of California Secretary of State, the agent for Sears’s address is in Bel Air and its a 30+ millions mansion.
    Court told me that I AM TO find out and actual serve to the person for the case.
    I tried deliver the service myself but the house keeper of this address said she is not authorized to receive any registered mail through intercom.
    This is my challenge to the court for a justice but I guess Im not strong enough to do so.
    defendant is a giant vs me a small citizen.
    I have no way to win this case but have to give it up and wait for next class action against Sears/Kenmore/LG for compensate my repairs twice.
    First repair on Jan. 29 2022 but the repairman did a lousy job and broke again on April 29.
    Sears told me that repair has 90 das warranty and my case is over 90 days(91 days), so, its going to be out of my pocket again.
    it’s more than enough to piss me off and the reason I filed a small claim against Sears.
    but now, the court grant a extension and next remote trial is in Aug.
    I just hope some lawyer can help us filling another class action against them.

      I also have a Kenmore elite refrigerator sitting in my kitchen , no good , 2nd compressor 2nd icemaker, water valve, 1000. Worth of spoiled food to trash,

      This is a repeat of the original failures with Kenmore/LG. Bought an Elite Bottom Freezer unit which was under the first class action. Not until my local news consumer reporter did a story on the repeated failures and lack of response from Sears did they replace the unit AFTER the claim filing date. Guess what? Here I am again. LG/Kenmore has learned NOTHING from the previous legal action as they have yet again flooded the market with defective products that they knew were trash. These products are manufactured outside the US. GE which was also bought out by foreign investors. However, GE continues to manufacture it’s appliances in the US.

      I have the 73025710 kenmore or LG since to me I would never had purchased an LG had I known. I feel very like to about how great this frig would be
      We are over 300 in so far and can’t even find the gasket since they are discontinued. What are my options. Like most I have thrown so much food away. Amd with the price of groceries right now. It is unbearable and causing so much stress on me and my family. I just want a frid that works. But don’t feel I should have to pay more than I already have. Please someone give me some input. Purchased it from Sears.

    I own a Kenmore model # 111.73025710 top does not work freezer works fine. The evaporator is shot and the board is not working. I had to replace many draws because they easily crack. It is costing as much to fix this refrigerator as the refrigerator itself. Refrigerator is only 3 years old which I bought from sears. Is there a class action on this refrigerator.
