American Idol Challenge Text Promotion Class Action Settlement

By Matt O’Donnell

American IdolDid you play the “American Idol Challenge” game that aired on the television show “American Idol?” If you paid for premium text message charges in connection with entering the American Idol Challenge but did not win a prize, you could receive a full refund of the charges you paid under a class action lawsuit settlement.

The American Idol Challenge settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Couch v. Telescope, Inc., et al., that alleges the contest constituted an illegal lottery under California and Connecticut law. The Defendants — Telescope, Project Support Team, American Idol Productions, Fremantlemedia North America, 19 Entertainment and Fox Broadcasting Company — deny any wrongdoing but have agreed to provide refunds of all premium text message charges paid by Class Members who submit a valid claim.

You’re considered a Class Member of the American Idol Challenge class action lawsuit settlement if you paid premium text message charges in connection with entering the American Idol Challenge promotion between February 2007 and May 2007 and did not win a prize. You are not a Class Member if you did not pay premium text message charges for entering the promotion. Keep in mind that the American Idol Challenge game is not the same as voting via text message for your favorite contestant and does not have anything to do with any DVD or video games produced or sold with the American Idol name.

To receive your refund under the American Idol text promotion class action settlement, you must submit a valid claim form either online at www.AmericanIdolChallengeSettlement.com, through the mail or by calling (877) 264-4185. All claims filed electronically or by phone must be submitted on or before August 10, 2012. If you submit your claim by mail, it must be postmarked on or before August 10, 2012.
