GeoDeck Composite Decking Class Action Settlement

By Mike Holter

GeoDeck settlementThe Superior Court of Connecticut has preliminarily approved a $5 million class action lawsuit settlement with several companies to resolve allegations they manufactured, marketed and sold defective GeoDeck decking products. If you purchased and installed a GeoDeck decking product prior to October 1, 2007, you may be entitled to a cash payment or product voucher from the class action settlement.

The GeoDeck settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Stefan Michael v. Kadant, Inc., et al., that alleges Kadant Composites, LLC manufactured defective GeoDeck decking products between April 2002 and October 2003. Kadant Composites has since ceased operations. The class action lawsuit further alleges that the remaining Defendants — Kadant, Inc.; Liberty Diversified International, Inc.; LDI Composites Co. and Green Bay Decking, LLC — are liable as either the successors in interest to, or the parent corporation of, Kadant Composites.

The Defendants deny any wrongdoing, but have agreed to a $5 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.

Class Members of the GeoDeck class action lawsuit settlement include U.S. residents who are an original end-user purchaser of GeoDeck decking products manufactured between April 2002 and October 2003, which were purchased and installed prior to October 1, 2007 at an identified property.

As a Class Member, you’re entitled to receive a cash reimbursement of $1.00 per linear board foot of eligible GeoDeck product, or a product voucher redeemable for the right to purchase certain replacement GeoDeck product at the price of $0.60 per linear board foot of eligible GeoDeck product.

I also had quite a large multi level deck built that cost me more than my wedding. The builder has no remorse, nor has offered to fix my deck. My claim has never been paid. I am totally sick and disgusted with this deck. I can’t afford to rebuild this monster and I am planning on selling my home and I have safety issues and an eyesore that is going to have an affect on the sale of my home. I don’t know what to do at this point. We should all put our efforts together and find a way of getting satisfactory action taken. I had my deck built in 2004. I was a single woman that spent most of my time working and wanted low Maintenance all I got was disappointment with headaches. I put my trust into a contractor that utilized old material left over from multiple jobs and he used them on my new deck vs holding them. He put multiple claims in on all his jobs. His clients were never told until like me n many others contact Kadant and they sent the claim forms out to us, knowing there was no money to return. They had sold out or what ever. Someone should pay for this. I already was yanked for 53k and it’s still costing me. I’m damn mad!!! ?

We also had a rather large deck installed with geo deck with a local contractor in 2012.. We called the contractor 3-4 times ever since because of problems with the boards. We have asked our original contractor to look into this, and he has not taken any responsibility. As of today, 6/19/16, we have had other companies come and look at our deck that has bowing, cracking, molding, severe trip hazards… They thought that our deck was 15-20 years old.. its 4 years old. I see that there were class action lawsuits with geo deck. We bought this for maintenance free and it has only been a mess and safety hazard.

my geodeck was installed by a local contractor in 2005 and bought at a local building company. the top rails are all cracked and breaking apart and there’s mold everywhere. it’s also discolored and cracked. i want to know if i am still eligible for the class action suit, this deck cost a lot of money and now i’m faced with bigger problems. we bought this product for our new house because we wanted maintenance free – what we got was a mess. we’re really disappointed.

We just had to replace some of our GEO deck, totaling $2,000. I understand that there was a action law suit but it was closed on 9/2012, The problem is that we didnot have any issues until a few months ago, does anyone know if there is something that we can still do.

I am a contractor and I installed GEO decking for a James Demitrack. Back on March 8, 2012 a claim was filed under the name of James Demitrack. Can you tell me has there been any action on this claim.
    Thank you,
