Verizon Wireless Reaches $10M Class Action Settlement Over Fees
By Matt O’Donnell
According to the Verizon Wireless class action lawsuit, Verizon customers were charged a fixed $5 late fee if they did not pay their bills on time and a $15 reconnect fee to begin service again. These fees were allegedly the same regardless of the monthly cost of the plan. The class action lawsuit alleges that California consumer protection laws make such flat fees illegal.
Under the proposed $10 million class action lawsuit settlement, Verizon has agreed to distribute funds to individuals who paid a $5 late fee between June 12, 2003 and July 20, 2012, or a $15 reconnect fee between December 1, 2004 and April 26, 2012.

This morning I was on the Verizon app and I made a payment of the past due amount of $98.49. At 8:36 AM I received a text from Verizon thanking me for the payment. Then, at. 8:37 AM I received a separate message from Verizon, telling me that my services have been interrupted for nonpayment. Long story short I was on chat with Verizon for 2 1/2 hours about why my services were interrupted went my payment was already made.. they were adamant about charging me the reconnect fees at $20 each for my four lines, when they were clearly wrong in interrupting my service. Basically, I had to agree with being charge the reconnect fee so that they would restore my service. by the end of the day services on three of my phones were still not restored correctly and I had to call back again I believe they did this on purpose because I was threatening them with reporting them to a business attorney for their shady and unfair business practices. It’s disappointing to see a company as big as Verizon that was clearing wrong with charging me reconnection fees for my service that should never have been interrupted, they would not take the reconnect fees off of my account. The most they did was discount it 50%.
Is there an attorney who wants to go after Verizon for violating this class action, they are still applyimg the fees and when there is a payment arrangement set up. They apply the re connect fee and if your payment is not made on time, And apply the reconnect fee for a payment agreement.
This company makes money off reconnection fee. We made payment arrangements for reconnections fee and past due amount. We missed the high amount the requested for the payment arrangements and was charged more reconnection fees for reconnect fees.
