Live Nation Ticket Fee SettlementA federal judge has granted final approval to a class action settlement over Live Nation ticket fees. More than 300,000 people who acquired tickets for concerts at PNC Banks Art Center may be eligible for benefits from the class action settlement if they purchased their tickets through Live Nation.

The terms of the Live Nation class action settlement cover all concertgoers who bought tickets through Live Nation’s website or Ticketmaster.com between June 23, 2003 and June 15, 2011. While the promoters did not admit wrongdoing in agreeing to the terms, members of the class are eligible to receive either three free tickets at the lawn section at PNC Banks Arts Center and/or Susquehanna Bank Center, as well as a $5 towards a future online ticket purchase.

The Live Nation ticket fee settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit initially filed by Michael Katz in 2009. The man alleged that the concert promoter illegally tacked on a $6 parking fee for PNC Bank Arts Center attendees regardless of whether or not ticket buyers would actually be taking advantage of that amenity. Further, he argued in the Live Nation ticket fee class action lawsuit that so-called “No Service Fee Wednesday” promotions were offset by increases in other prices.

The total number of people who may benefit from the Live Nation class action settlement could be as many as 363,000, according to news reports. U.S. District Court Judge Douglas E. Alpert noted in the preliminary approval in December that the award was reasonable given the lengthy litigation process and the damages that individual plaintiffs might have been able to obtain on their own.

While the approval came after a hearing on March 28, people who believe that they should receive compensation through the Live Nation ticket fee settlement must act relatively quickly. If you received a notice via email, you must apply for the lawn tickets and future discount by April 30. If you received a notice regarding the ticket fee settlement via mail, you have until May 10.

Details on how to file a claim for the Live Nation ticket fee class action settlement can be found here.

The plaintiffs are represented by class action lawsuit lawyers Andrew R. Wolf of The Wolf Law Firm LLC and Olimpio Lee Squitieri of Squitieri & Fearon LLP.

The Live Nation Ticket Fee Class Action Lawsuit is Katz, et al. v. Live Nation Inc., et al., Case No. 09-cv-03740, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
