The daughter of a Wisconsin Electric Power Company employee who passed away from mesothelioma has filed a lawsuit against the power company and the company that manufactured its products, claiming they negligently exposed him to asbestos.
Demetra Alexander alleges in the mesothelioma lawsuit that Sprinkmann and Sons Corp. installed and sold asbestos products such as piper covering, cement, boards, blocks, asbestos fibers, and turbine blankets that her father, Leonard L. Haynes Sr., was exposed to as a union laborer for Wisconsin Electric Power Company.
In December 2011, Mr. Haynes Sr. passed away from mesothelioma after having been diagnosed in November 2011, just one month earlier. Now, his daughter has filed an asbestos lawsuit for wrongful death and negligence against Sprinkmann Sons, the corporate owners of the Wisconsin Electric Power Company. The mesothelioma lawsuit alleges that Sprinkmann Sons should have known about the health hazards of asbestos and provided adequate care to these workers.
Nature of Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is one of the tougher cancers to catch, which is generally why when it is caught there is very little time to act. In addition, the symptoms for mesothelioma are often symptoms associated with other ailments. Most cases have been found in the elderly, especially veterans that worked in Naval Shipyards or industry that used many asbestos-related products.
Nowadays in the U.S., most asbestos has been phased out of building materials. However, some products still contain them which is why more and more asbestosis class action lawsuits have been litigated throughout the country. These asbestosis class action lawsuits allow parties to group together to bring charges. If settled in their favor, plaintiffs will all share in equal compensation, or as deemed equal by the judge.
In general, asbestos mesothelioma lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
