E-Book & Sensa Weight Loss Settlement Deadlines Close

By Sarah Pierce

class action lawsuit settlementTwo big class action lawsuit settlements are closing next week. If you purchased an e-book in the last two years or purchased the weight-loss product Sensa prior to August 2012, you may be entitled to a cash refund from these class action lawsuit settlements. Here’s what you need to know to file a claim.

E-Book Price-Fixing Class Action Settlement

The e-book settlement resolves a class action antitrust lawsuit, titled In Re: Electronic Books Antitrust Litigation, that accuses five major book publishers of conspiring to fix and raise the retail prices of digital books. All five publishers deny the allegations, but Hachette Book Group Inc., HarperCollins Publishers LLC and Simon & Schuster Inc. have agreed to establish a $69.04 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation. The remaining defendants, Penguin and Macmillan, have not settled and are awaiting trial in 2013.

Class Members of the e-book class action settlement include all U.S. consumers that purchased an e-book published by Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster or one of their divisions between April 1, 2010 and May 21, 2012.

Class Members have until December 12, 2012 to file a claim to receive either a credit to their e-book account or a partial cash refund of the qualifying e-books they purchased.

Sensa Weight Loss Class Action Settlement

The Sensa settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, titled Correa v. Sensa Products LLC, that alleges Sensa tricked consumers into buying its “weight-loss” crystals by using marketing claims not backed by scientific proof.

Class Members of the Sensa class action settlement include all U.S. consumers who purchased Sensa prior to August 21, 2012.

Class Members have until December 13, 2012 to file a claim to receive a share of the $6 million settlement fund. The amount of money you can receive from the Sensa class action settlement will depend on, among other things, how many of the 2.6 million Class Members submit a timely and valid Claim Form.
