Blue Rhino Propane Settlement Checks Mailed!

Top Class Actions just learned that Class Members of the Blue Rhino Class Action Lawsuit Settlement began receiving settlement checks last week. The checks are reportedly in a “nondescript window” envelope.

The Blue Rhino propane settlement resolves a class action lawsuit, titled In Re: Pre-Filled Propane Tank Marketing and Sales Practices Litigation, that claims Blue Rhino, together with certain competitors, reduced the amount of propane gas in the cylinders it sold without disclosing this to customers and without disclosing the actual fill of the cylinders. Blue Rhino denies any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to avoid ongoing litigation.

Most Class Members are reporting receiving checks for $7.50 – the max amount allowed for claims filed without proof of purchase. Class Members with proof of purchase will received $7.50 per propane tank they purchased or exchanged during the class period, up to a maximum of $150.

Class Members of the Blue Rhino settlement included all persons who purchased or exchanged one or more Blue Rhino pre-filled propane gas cylinders, not for resale, in the U.S. between June 15, 2005 and October 11, 2011. The claims filing deadline was May 23, 2012.
