New Claim Deadline for Verizon Third-Party Billing Settlement Added

By Matt O’Donnell

VerizonTop Class Actions has just learned that a new settlement class has been added to the Verizon Third-Party Billing Settlement that closed in November. As a result, a new group of Class Members will have until June 7, 2013 to file a claim to receive either $40 cash or a 100% refund of any unauthorized third-party charges they paid.

The Verizon third-party billing settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, titled Moore, et al. v. Verizon, et al., that alleges Verizon billed its landline customers for charges from third-party companies that were not authorized by the customer (a practice known as “cramming”).

Verizon denies any wrongdoing, but has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to avoid ongoing litigation.

The Verizon third-party billing settlement covers all Verizon landline customers nationwide (including individuals, businesses and local governmental entities) who were billed for third-party charges from April 27, 2005 through February 28, 2012.

The first group of Class Members had until November 15, 2012 to file a claim. However, if you received a Settlement Notice from Verizon or the Settlement Administrator in November or December of 2012, your deadline to file a claim is June 7, 2013.

Class Members will be able to recover 100% of all money they paid in unauthorized third-party charges during that period by submitting a “Full Payment Claim” or recover a refund of $40 by submitting a “Flat Payment Claim.” Both forms are available at www.verizonthirdpartybillingsettlement.com and must be submitted by June 7, 2013 if you’re in Group 2. There is no dollar cap on the monetary recovery to be paid under the Settlement.

Some Settlement Class Members may have a claim for hundreds or thousands of dollars in refunds from the Verizon third-party billing class action settlement. That’s why it’s important that Verizon landline customers take advantage of one of the benefits available to them under the class action lawsuit settlement, which provides a free summary of all third-party charges they incurred. You can request this summery here or by calling the Settlement Administrator at (877) 772-6219.

Claim forms and more information on your rights in the Verizon Landline Third-Party Billing Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found at www.verizonthirdpartybillingsettlement.com.

If you filed a timely Claim Form for Group 1, your claim is currently in process and the Settlement Administrator will notify you in writing of the outcome of your claim. Please be patient as final decisions will not be issued until after the March 12, 2013 Final Approval Hearing.

I never received anything regarding the settlement. Is it ever going to be paid?

I have not seen a single email nor snail mail response to this lawsuit. Has it EVER been resolved or is it still on going. With all the net neutrality issues now in the news I would like to distance myself from ANYTHING Verizon. Including my current contract with FIOS. Many people I know that have FIOS are not going to renew with Verizon due to the net neutrality issue. I would really appreciate an update from at least the current month and year on this issue. Let us know if this suit has come and gone and we are SOL if we haven’t received anything as of this date. Thank you?

“Preposterously”, is the way I see this matter being handled; such obfuscation makes Verizon look quite bad.

Why in the world do you NOT allow the people you apparently represent, who may not know if they filed or not, to which group they belong, etc. to simply inquire against your database and see if they did or did not file? Wouldnt this make a lot of sense?

Sinse the process your firm must think appropriate doesn’t provide me with the ability to do so I am asking that you do it for me.

    Advise me immediately:
    1. if you have a record of my request for refund
    2. What interest will be allowed given the “loss of time value of money” I have incurred by not getting a timely refund after all this time.
    3. WHEN will the final decision be made— I have heard so many “final dates” that then slip by that I am not at all sure that this last date (July ’13) will be accurate.

I called today 03/27/13 for the 6/7th time in regards to NOT YET receiving my summary of third party charges is the last i heard when speaking with a customer service representative and left a message w/ my contact info on the voicemail? Since I have all of my Verizon billing records since 2007 for business purposes and feel almost like they don’t want me to receive them. Now no one will answer the phone at the # I have used to speak with Verizon about my continuing issue of not getting anything in the mail. Please, someone mail me the charges so I can get the ball moving forwards. Thanks! Acct# 000125487386
