Zithromax Stevens Johnson SyndromeOne of the biggest concerns when someone is not feeling well is getting on with life. Missing work or a weekend getaway can be frustrating. Yet a recent online study indicates that people who try to push a treatment option put themselves at unnecessary risk for Zithromax side effects.

The study indicates that doctors are already willing to prescribe Zithromax (azythromycin) and other strong antibiotics about one out of every five times when they are not even completely sure of the diagnosis. Due to the powerful nature of the antibiotic, this can put Zithromax patients at risk for liver, heart and even a skin condition known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

Like most antibiotics, Zithromax is metabolized through the liver. It is unclear exactly what other risk factors there are, but research indicates that there is a statistically significant possibility of developing liver damage while taking Z-Pak. It also attacks the good and bad bacteria in the digestive system which has led some patients to develop ulcerative colitis.

One of the most dangerous Zithromax side effects is called torsades de pointes. Only recently publicized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the condition occurs when the heart’s rhythm becomes disordered. While the data only shows that it is linked to people who are already predisposed to cardiac issues, numerous medical associations note that these are highly under-diagnosed. It leads to the very real possibility of a heart attack.

With school just around the corner, more and more people will be subjected to a wealth of pathogens. In spite of that, it is important to listen to your doctor first. Patients who push for what they want are likely to get it at least one-third of the time, but are also risking heart problems, ulcerative colitis and other maladies as a result.

At the very least, if a doctor offers an alternative that is indicated for the bacterial infection you have, be mindful of the side effects of this or any other drug and ask for the warning signs of any potential complications so you can seek treatment if you need to do so.
