AndroGel side effects

An Ohio man filed a testosterone product lawsuit against AbbVie Inc. over injuries he allegedly suffered from using the testosterone supplement  AndroGel, including a stroke.

Plaintiff Joseph Dane requested AndroGel from his doctor after fearing that he was showing signs of testosterone depletion that may have been due to his age. The plaintiff had based this assumption on the defendant’s advertisements of its products, according to the low testosterone lawsuit.

Dane was prescribed AndroGel and used the testosterone replacement therapy for its intended purpose. According to AbbVie’s advertisements, Dane was supposed to feel more energized, youthful, rested, and increase muscle development, and libido activity. Instead, Dane started suffering symptoms after using AndroGel that were not mentioned on the product’s label, according to the testosterone product lawsuit. Dane eventually suffered a stroke. Dane reported suffering severe physical weakness, mental anguish, and emotional trauma from the AndroGel side effects.

In the testosterone gel lawsuit, Dane said he never would have used AndroGel if he had known about its association with blood clot injuries. Dane and his wife accused AbbVie of negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.

This AndroGel Lawsuit is Joseph and Krista Dane v. AbbVie Inc., Case No. 1:14-cv-05323, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

Overview of Testosterone Complications

Dane’s AndroGel lawsuit is one of many filed against AbbVie and other testosterone therapy manufacturers, with each of them alleging the companies misled them to believe that testosterone depletion was a naturally occurring condition as they aged. The condition AbbVie and other companies have referenced is called hypogonadism, where a man’s sex glands may diminish in testosterone, and may decrease its production or stop altogether. Companies have also marketed it as Low-T. According to medical records, this a very rare condition from which only a few men suffer.

When AndorGel was approved in 2000, it joined the testosterone supplement market that had made its pitches by convincing men in America that they needed assistance with their natural production. AbbVie advertised AndroGel and its other testosterone therapy products to be safe and effective, without mentioning the potentially fatal side effects of blood-clot injuries.

In general, testosterone product lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
