Glucosamine Supplement Class Action Settlement
By Mike Holter
Several companies that manufacture and sell joint health supplements containing glucosamine and/or chondroitin have reached a $2 million class action lawsuit settlement over allegations they lied about the health benefits of their products.
If you purchased a joint health supplement containing glucosamine from Rexall Sundown Inc., NBTY Inc. or their affiliates, you may be eligible to claim up to $50 cash from the class action settlement. Dozens of glucosamine and/or chondroitin supplements are covered by the settlement, including those sold under the CVS, Equate, Equaline, Kirkland, Kroger, Osteo Bi-Flex, Safeway, Target and Walgreens brand names.
The glucosamine settlement will resolve numerous class action lawsuits filed since 2011 that accuse the defendants of making false, deceptive and misleading labeling claims about the benefits of glucosamine and/or chondroitin.
Rexall denies all allegations of wrongdoing or liability and stands by its glucosamine products and their efficacy, but has agreed to a $2 million class action lawsuit settlement to end the litigation.
Class Members of the glucosamine supplement settlement include all U.S. consumers who purchased for personal use certain joint health dietary supplements sold under the following brand names between 2005 and 2013:

Class Members that submit a valid Claim Form postmarked or submitted online by December 3, 2013 will be eligible to receive a cash payment of $5 per bottle purchased, up to a maximum of 10 ($50), with Proof of Purchase. Adequate proof includes a cash register receipt, an intact box or bottle that clearly displays a readable UPC code and lot number, or similar documentation that identifies the Covered Product and date and location of purchase.
If you can’t provide Proof of Purchase, you can still submit a claim under penalty of perjury confirming your purchase and receive $3 per bottle purchased, up to a maximum of 4 bottles ($12).
Your refund may be more or less, depending on how many valid claims are filed.
A federal court preliminarily approved the glucosamine class action settlement on May 16, 2013. A Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for September 4, 2013.
