Sexual Enhancement Supplements: Too Good to Be True?
By Jessica Tyner
There’s a “natural” herb or supplement for everything, including sexual enhancement. In fact, consumers trying everything under the sun to have more, better sex have helped boost this multi-billion dollar industry. Whether it’s a better libido or overall better performance, everyone wants to be better in bed and have more fun doing it. Unfortunately, these supplements aren’t monitored by the FDA — and critics say they just don’t work.
The FDA is trying to keep on top this niche of the industry by notifying consumers of potentially dangerous natural sexual enhancement products. The agency issued 13 notices in a single month of sexual enhancement supplements that consumers should beware of. Not only may these supplements be ineffective, but they may include ingredients that are dangerous.
The FDA has added 24 products in 2013 alone to the “Tainted Sexual Enhancement Products” list, which already has dozens of other offenders. The FDA has been watching this market since 2008. When a person takes an OTC supplement with hidden active ingredients — especially when they’re untested, unstudied and may counteract with other supplements — a disaster is in the works.
Consumers Fight Back Against Bogus Sexual Enhancement Claims
The natural supplement industry has already paid out millions in supplement class action lawsuit settlements. However, those lawsuits were focused on “tricking” customers into basically buying costly placebos. False advertising and deception were the pillars, but now harmful ingredients have been added to the mix. Its one thing to pay for a useless pill, but quite another to put your health at risk.
Taking supplements to perform better in bed is nothing new. Egyptians swore by eating dry figs to increase stamina, and our modern society “knows” that oysters are aphrodisiacs. Whether or not these foods really work doesn’t matter because they’re harmless. Plus, even if a bar of chocolate doesn’t increase your libido, at least it still tastes amazing.
A Few of the Accused
There are a number of sexual enhancement pills being claimed as potentially dangerous. These include: Cobra Sexual Energy, Excite, Excitol, HerSolution, LibidoForHer, Provestra, RockHard Weekend and Viva Cream.
There are many other brands being investigated or already on the FDA’s tainted list. Even if you only tried it once, you may qualify to join a sexual enhancement pill class action lawsuit.
Generally, when a supplement is available over the counter, consumers assume it’s safe. That’s not necessarily true. A lack of studies and testing means there’s no telling what your individual results may be.
Have You Used a Natural Sexual Enhancement Supplement?
If you’ve tried a supplement, even if it’s not included on the list, you may qualify for a sexual supplement legal claim. Sometimes the side effects aren’t immediately noticeable. Your health is your most important asset — protect it.
