Touch-Tel Calling Card settlementThe U.S. District Court for the Central District of California has granted the Class Counsel’s application for attorneys’ fees and expenses for the Touch-Tel USA, LLC class action settlement. This came after the court’s approval of the settlement, reached between the company and Class Members, at the Final Fairness Hearing on Sept. 5, 2013.

If you purchased a pre-paid calling card or debit card distributed by Touch-Tel in the United States between Aug. 27, 2004 and May 20, 2013, you may be entitled to a partial refund or free calling card from the class action settlement.

For each Settlement Class Member who did not opt out of the Settlement Class and submitted a claim, Touch-Tel will pay each eligible Claim with a refund PIN or calling card in $2.00 increments that can be used to make telephone calls within the United States and Canada or to the following countries: Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ecuador and El Salvador. Class Members will have until Dec. 7, 2013 to file a claim.

The Touch-Tel settlement resolves a 2008 class action lawsuit (Galvez, et al. v. Touch-Tel USA) accusing the company of distributing and selling pre-paid calling cards and debit cards without fully disclosing the applicable rates, fees and charges as required by California law. Touch-Tel has denied the claims but agreed to the settlement to resolve the litigation.

The case is Crescencio Galvez, et al. v. Touch-Tel USA, Case No. 8-cv-05642-RGK (JCx), U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
