MotorcyclesIf you’ve ever owned or leased an ’08 or ’09 Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle, you may want to follow the progress of this recently filed lawsuit. A proposed class action has been filed against Honda Motor Company claiming 2008-09 Honda CBR 1000RR motorcycles have manufacturing defects that “pose a serious safety risk” to riders and make the bikes prone to “tremendous repair and/or replacement expenses.”

According to lawsuit documents, the piston rings on these bikes are allegedly defective, causing the engines to “burn an unacceptably high amount of oil” and the motorcycles to prematurely fail. As a result of this defect, class members incur a “significant expense” because the engines often have to be repaired or replaced. Class member also have to buy “significantly more oil” than they normally would if the pistons weren’t defective (the lead plaintiff estimates he had to use 10 times more oil than normal). Even more pressing is the fact that these defects make the motorcycles “prone to on-the-road failures during use,” putting riders at serious risk.

The proposed class action lawsuit will cover current and former owners and lessees of model year 2008 and 2009 Honda CBR1000RR motorcycles originally equipped with 999cc DOHC liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engines.

I do not think anyone from the legal team will answer on this website since it is just a news source. Try contacting the lawyers in the link above that says Lawsuit Documents.

I got the bike 2 months ago, with 880 miles on it.. Promptly changed the oil and rode it, light came on… imagine my surprise when I found out that the oil was all gone, down 2 quarts in less ten 1500 miles.
Now what do I do…. went to dealership, they will not fix it, they do not want to hear about it, or even do a trade with me. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

ihave a 2008 cbr1000 with 12k mile on it. the excessive burning of oil just arose over last weeks bikeweek in daytona. i always had the oil changed every 2500 miles, started having clutch problems so i tryed to adjust the cable to no avail. parked the bike for the day and the next morning checked the oil and it was 2.5 litres down, added oil and clutch worked fine… over the next 2 days i went thru 3 litres more with only 500 miles clocked… really upset with honda and there excuse that this is normal. i shouldent have to worry that the motor might pop everytime i ride. feel free to email if more info is needed….
