A federal judge has granted preliminary approval of a $4 million class action settlement for more than 6,700 former California Polo Ralph Lauren employees. The class action settlement will end a 4-year-old lawsuit that alleges the luxury fashion retailer denied employees rest breaks and locked them for up to 30 minutes each day, without pay, while managers checked their bags for stolen items. The class action lawsuit also alleges Polo used fraud to deny them overtime pay and reduce future commission earnings if they didn’t meet minimum commission requirements.
The final approval hearing is scheduled for August 20, 2010. If you worked at a Polo store or factory outlet in California from mid-2002 through January 2010, you can expect to receive a claim form in the mail to claim your share of the settlement. [San Francisco Chronicle]
