Skechers Shape-Ups Class Action
By Sarah Pierce

Sketchers Shape-upsYou’ve seen the commercials for Skechers “Shape-ups” shoes, where people such as former NFL quarterback Joe Montana claim wearing the rocker-bottom shoes gets them in shape “without setting foot in a gym.” But are these shoes really all they’re cracked up to be? Not according to a federal class action lawsuit, which claims that not only does Skechers falsely advertise the health benefits of its Shape-Ups shoes, but that the shoes can actually cause injury.

Skechers claims in its advertisements that wearing Shape-Ups can result in noticeable physiological improvements, including weight loss, firmer and stronger muscles, reduced cellulite, improved circulation, and improved posture. These claims, Skechers says, are based on results shown in four clinical studies. According to the class action lawsuit, however, these claims are false.

“Shape-ups provide no health benefit to users beyond what any other ordinary sneaker provides. Worse, Shape-ups have actually injured some consumers,” the lawsuit says. “[Skechers’] false and misleading advertising campaign has allowed it to reap millions of dollars of profit at the expense of the consumers it has mislead.”

The lawsuit alleges the four clinical studies Skechers uses as evidence of Shape-ups’ health benefits are “medically, statistically and scientifically unsound,” and that they are “nothing more than marketing tools.” Studies on Shape-ups and similarly designed rocker-bottom shoes performed by objective third parties have found these types of shoes do not have the benefits that Skechers claims.

“Not only do Shape-ups not provide the benefits as claimed, they have significant drawbacks which Skechers has omitted from its advertising.” The class action lawsuit cites several doctors’ comments published in news reports that state rocker-bottom shoes such as Shape-ups can cause injuries, because they change the person’s walk or gait and are unstable for users who have flat feet or those who have pre-existing difficulties maintaining their balance. They also allegedly can cause injuries in areas that are responsible for maintaining balance, such as the hamstring or ankle.

If certified, the class action lawsuit will seek damages and refunds for consumers who purchased Shape-ups. A copy of the Skechers Shape-ups Class Action Lawsuit can be read here

  1. How do we get involved with this class action lawsuit? I have two pair of sketchers shape-ups and I just got out of the hospital yesterday for back surgery.
  2. i wore these shoes all day after work out . My doctor told me the sole of the shoe changes the core of you body which has me in pain. I had to stop working out in order for my body to recoup from the damages of the shoes to my stomach, hip and buttocks. you can't over do it in the shoes. Skechers don't tell you can't wear the shoe all day or that it will shift the core of your body. At one point i couldn't walk to the bathroom in the morning. Its a lot better but not without a lot of pain. Im still in pain but not as much as I was in December of 2010.
  3. I too would like to get involved in this lawsuit.. I contacted Skechers to get my money back, but they wouldn't talk with me... I sent paperwork showing I had had both hips replaced in 2006 and had recovered nicely, walking 2 miles daily. I started wearing Skechers in 2010 for more exercise & followed their instructions, but discomfort and pain caused me to stop wearing the shoes. I tried twice, but could not.
  4. I started wearing these shoes this past summer. Needless to say. My left knee started hurting. I ended up going to an orthopedic doctor and found that my menicus was torn. I had surgery to repair this. I totally believe these shoes were the reason for my tear. I have been telling EVERYONE I can about this as to help someone else avoid the pain and cost of surgery.
  5. I have experienced foot and hip pain after wearing Shape Ups, My foot doctor advised me to stop wearing the shoes and I also had to see an orthopedic who sent me for a MRI for hip pain. How do I join the suit for reimbursement. Thank you.
  6. I thought the hip and back pain was just because I was out of shape. I also got the sandals and always get severe charlie horses in my calves after wearing them. again,I just attributed it to being out of shape.
  7. I am having severe pain in my knees, maybe it could be contributed to my shape-ups?
  8. After approximately 1 week of wearing these shoes to walk in, I had knee pain so bad I had to stop walking altogether. Up to this point I had been walking 5 miles every day. After x-rays and and an MRI, the doctors told me I had torn the cartilage in my knee. After surgery to repair the cartilage and 6 months rehab, I am now slowly getting back to my walks.
  9. After approximately one week of wearing these shoes to walk in, I had severe knee pain. Up to the time I purchase them, I was walking 5 miles every day. After xrays and an MRI, it was determined I had torn the cartilage in my right knee. Now after surgery to repair the cartilage and approximately 6 months of rehab I am once again walking with minimal pain. I asked my orthopedic doctor if sketchers could have caused the injury. He was not familiar with the shoes, so I told him to keep my comments in mind and if he started getting more women with the same or similar complaints, to let me know.
  10. I have been wearing skechers shape- ups since they came out. I followed the directions which come with them, it states to start out just for couple hours a day then increase time.I work at a job on my foot from 8 to 10 hours aday and I found that they work and that they were great on my feet. I have had no pains with them. May be people who have problems had them before they started wearing them.
  11. I have been wearing Skechers Shape ups since they came out. I have lost my balance several times and have suffered sciatic leg and back pain. It was to the point that I could not walk without meds at times. I am going to stop wearing as of today after reading some of the comments.
  12. I am a fan of these shoes and have multiple pairs. I have been wearing them since they've come out on the market. I followed the directions that came with them. I am on my feet from 8-12 hours per day 5-7 days per week. I have plantar fascitis and these make my feet "happy". My thoughts are that those who have had problems with this type of footwear may have had problems prior to the use of these shoes or may not have taken the time to read the instructions or follow the advice from the sales representatives at the time of purchase...
  13. I would also like to know how to get involved in this class action lawsuit. I suffered injury to my hips and back that Ortho Dr.s said was caused by the Sketchers Shapeup shoe. I wore them for about 3 months and thought at first the reason my spine hurt and my hips and tailbone pinched and spazamed was due to using different musles but unfortunately that was not the case. I Look forward to someone posting the information on this suit.Thankyou.
  14. I love my Sketchers!! They cost less then my Nike's and make my feet and back feel 100% better then any other tennis shoe I've owned.
  15. I would also like information regarding this class action lawsuit. I have purchase two pair of their sneakers and have had increased pain my my right knee and hips with pain radiating down my leg. I will be having this pain looked at by my physician and expect that the problem is now the sneakers that I have been wearing. I look forward to getting more information re. this suit. I have obviously stopped wearing the sneakers - although do not expect the pain to go away, as the damage has already occured.
  16. I would like to be in this law suit as well, my left knee and hip have been affected by wearing these shape up sneakers.
  17. I am now learning to walk again & now have a gait with my step now & never had one before i wore those shoes
  18. These shoes messed up my calve muscles. My doctor confirmed it when he saw me. I had to learn how to walk with normal shoes. I wore these for an extended period of time as recommended by another doctor to relieve pain due to a missing joint on my right foot.
  19. I wore these shoes just 2 to 3 hrs a day and I followed their instructions. I am a healthy, fit person but since last Thursday I can't walk due to extreme pain on my knees and feet due to knee strain and patellofemoral Syndrome. Please be careful with these shoes . How do i join the suit for reimbursement.
  20. Am also interested in how to join the suit. Am a physician and broke my heel last summer due to wearing the Shape Ups. Am still trying to recover from the injury and subsequent pain and disability.
  21. I'VE BEEN WEARING SHAPE UPS FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS.I HAVE TWO PAIRS.ANKLE PAINS STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I STARTED WEARING THESE SHAPE UPS.JUST EARLY THIS WEEK I WENT TO EXPRESS CARE FOR SEVERE ANKLE PAINS AND WAS REFERRED TO A FOOT DOCTOR WHO TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN A LOT OF INJURIES FROM SHAPE UP USE AND TOLD ME NOT USE THEM AGAIN...
  22. :'(Skechers Shape-Ups Class Action - www.topclassactions.com - edit - delete - undo I would also like to get involved in this class action lawsuit. I have worked out Monday thru Friday for the last 25 years (not wearing Sketcher Shape-ups to work out). I believe all these comments that refer to either not reading the instructions or that the injury sustained must have been coming on anyway without having worn Sketcher Shape-ups are totally wrong! I now have a torn meniscus in my left knee and I will soon be having surgery. After on week of wearing these shoes to walk in, I had severe knee pain. On Saturday I thought I was getting shin-splints and by Monday I could hardly walk
  23. :'( I have a pair of Skechers that I just started wearing on a regular basis. I started experiencing pain in both my knees and was having difficulty walking up and down stairs. Thank goodness I hadn't been wearing them constantly from the time I bought them. I stopped wearing them and the pain in my knees is easing up somewhat. I still will need to see a doctor to confirm I haven't done any permanent damage.
  24. I wore these shoes for about 2 months almost constantly at work on my feet. They felt good but I started having right knee pain but I thought that was just the shoes helping me "get in shape". I now have a torn meniscus in the right knee, in physical therapy and I have been walking with a limp for the last 2 months! I know it was the Shape Up shoes! Stupid me for falling for the false advertising!
  25. I wore these for 2 months while working on my feet full time. i noticed some right knee pain but I thought it was just part of "getting in shape". Jan 2011 I woke up and could not walk even barefoot! I now have a torn meniscus, going thru therapy and I have been walking with a limp for almost 2 months. I have never had knee problems, I never fell ...nothing! I know it was the Shape Up shoes. Please anyone...STAY AWAY FROM THESE SHOES! The advertising is totally false.
  26. my mother wore these shoes for 3 months, she wound up slipping and falling down, breaking her hip, and complications from this caused her death. these shoes should be outlawed
  27. I started wearing Sketcher Shape-up in November of '09 and saw immediate toning in my legs. However, within 6-8 months, I believe it was June of '10, I had to stop wearing them due to foot pain. X-rays showed a bone spur. Soon after that, a ligament in my left foot suddenly snapped (tore) when I simply stood up to go answer the phone. Almost a year has passed since that time, and I'm still experiencing much foot pain.
  28. I have been wearing my sketchers but only for an hour at a time. Last weekend I worked a Trade Show and had them on my feet 11-12 hours each day. I walked a few miles each day around the trade show as well as stood in them. I now have extreme knee pain - it came on two days after the trade show. My knee locks and then goes out when I walk on it. I've never had knee pain before. I blame the sketchers
  29. I wore my Sketchers Shape Ups for a solid year before I started having real bad hip pain. I did start out as instructed and they felt fine to me. My hip and leg pain got so bad that I could not walk without the aid of a cane. When I saw an Orthopedic surgeon he did xrays and informed me that I needed a complete hip replacement on my left side and asap, because I also had, avascular necrosis, which means that the blood supply had been cut off from the bone and the only cure for that was the hip replacement. I had the surgery on March 1st 2011 and I am now trying to re-cooperate. I do want to check into the possibility of the shoes being responsible for my injuries.
  30. After wearing my shapeup for the last year, I have been in pain for the last 6 months, unable to walk at times. The pain in my right foot and right hip have been some of the worst pain I have ever felt. After going to my reg. dr. i was sent to a foot dr. i went in today and was told my shapeups were to blame. after 3 shots in my foot iS A LITTLE BETTERbetter but also had to buy $125 orthodic inserts and have to come see the dr. gain in another week. I WOULD ALSO LIKE INFORMATION ON JOINING THE LAWSUIT. STAY AWAY FROM THE SHAPEUPS..
  31. :'( I loved the look of my shape ups but I developed terrible neck pain and had to discontinue wearing them.
  32. I am on my 3rd pair of Shape-ups. I will NEVER wear anything but them! I didn't buy them for the "workout" aspect. My back used to hurt all the time, now it doesn't. Sketchers Shape-Ups are like walking on a CLOUD. I love them
  33. I will NOT be participating in this very FRIVOLOUS lawsuit! These shoes have been nothing but a GOD SEND for me. I am 25 and have been suffering from degenerative disk for over 5 years now, I purchased my shape up TONERS November of 2010 and will never own any other type of sneakers again! I have went from receiving NERVE BLOCKS on a monthly basis to a normal life! I recently started working out to strengthen my back under the eye of my physicians and Physical therapist. My improvement started when I got my shoes and has gone even further. I put them on before I go make my coffee and just went on vacation! If this lawsuit somehow gets these shoes pulled from the market and I can not purchase them anymore, I will sue the responsible party and everyone I have to for endangering MY HEALTH, because my medical records document my improvement. I owe Skechers, They have given me back my life and the ability to play with my 5 year old daughter. As a 25 year old single mother, that's priceless.
  34. I want to get involved in this lawsuit or any lawsuit for sketchers shape-ups. I waitress and have damaged my ankle due to wearing these shoes, I need surgery in order to fix my ankle but I have no health insurance. I tried contacting sketchers but they ignored me and would not talk to me about it. please help, anybody.
  35. Hi, my name is Karla, I waitress at a casino, and I have been wearing the skeetchers WORK shoe for 11/2 years.I started haveing numb toes, and leg cramps, and very sore feet, One day I couldnt take the pain no more, and I went to the pod.{foot doctor], and she seen my shoes, and she said thats your problem, she had 4 xrays taken, and i had pulled all the tendons on the top of my foot pulled, and ll the bones on the top of my foot were fractured.I was put in a walking cast.I never missed a days work, simpley because I couldn't afford to,so i worked in pain for weeks.I had tp purchase insoles and inserts for my shoes wich cost me 400.00,which my isurance didnt cover. This has been very hard on me and the ability to do my job. Yes please include me in this law suit. Thank you.
  36. Like others, I just love these shoes. I wore them for work and weekends. After four months my hips started hurting. I stopped wearing them and now the pain doesn't let up. I used to be a avid walker, but it hurs too much.
  37. I bought the sketchers shape ups and after a week of wearing them I felt soreness in my left calf. After walking normally I pulled something, I went to Urgent care and my Doctor said I tore my calf muscle. I blame it on the sketchers. I was off work for 4 days and on crutches. I would like to join this law suit. Thank you
  38. I would lilke to know how to be added to the list, these shoes had caused me to have extreme foot pain, related to plantar fascia, which has led to heel spurs. i thought i was doing my feet+body a good thing instead I feet have never felt worst. I tried numerous times to reach skechers, and now they told me to email there legal dept.. any help:\
  39. I agree that this lawsuit is frivolous! People will search for anything to blame their problems on. Thats the American way! Sue sue sue. The implication that these shoes are dangerous is laughable at best. GET OFF YOUR ASS AND STOP BLAMING SKECHERS FOR YOUR WEIGHT RELATED HEALTH ISSUES.
  40. Warning for others. be careful with these shoes. My right calf is so messed up that now I am going on week three without being able to walk. At first I just thought that my leg was sore, but now I know it's more that that. For the comment on "stop blaming sketchers for your weight related health issues" .... does that mean a woman that weighs 125. You should get over it. I am not saying that there are people who cannot wear these shoes and experience nothing but the benefits from them, but there are those of us that they have really hurt. I want in on the lawsuit. Will be seeing my doctor next week, and will take the shoes with me (not wear them) and see what he tells me. Oh by the way, have never sued anyone in my life.
  41. I am 62 years old. Two knee surgeries to both knees, a back surgery and arthritic hips. Any walking has caused me so much pain I could not walk 1/2 mile without having to stop and rest until the pain subsided before I could again. Since I have been wearing the shape-up shoes I can walk any distance I choose as I now longer experience any pain. When I go back to my other well known brand shoe, my body starts hurting very soon upon walking. The shape-ups are like walking on air. I would gladly testify for free on behalf of Skechers shoes. Very Happy
  42. I have the Champion version of these and they've caused so much pain Sad I wonder if there's a Champion lawsuit too?
  43. I have worn these shoes for over a year and I love them. They have actually improved my balance. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I never read the directions so I don't know what I'm suppose to be doing and I only walk a mile or two a day. I wear them all day at least 5 days a week. I guess it's just in what you're doing when you're wearing them. I don't understand why anyone would continue wearing any shoe if you thought it was bringing you pain? I buy shoes for comfort and with the shape ups I found it and I will buy more pairs when these wear out!!
  44. Cushy feel of the shoe is wonderful. My Plantar Faschitis would have benefited from this shoe. It did cause a 3 bone broken ankle. I have a plate in the outside bone with 7 pins, and two 3" screws in the inside bone. I was in a cast and walking boot for 3 months. Sick time ended up 8 weeks. Medical costs were around $25,000. I believe these shoes can help certain people with specific ailments, but I also feel because of the design of the shoe, others have been legitimately injured. I verify those struggling with medical bills and trauma. I also am pleased with those who have a better quality of life from wearing these shoes. I wish those commenting could consider both sides as having legitimate points, and not bashing or devaluling others because their experience is different.
  45. I too have been having problems since using sketcher's Sape Ups. At first I loved them-the extra cushining felt great. But after a week or so, my body started feeling out of sorts. Now, I have developed a numbness in my lateral right leg from toes up to my hip. Everyday walking in regular shoes and sneakers is uncomfortable now , as I feel so unsteady on my feet! Also, my knees feel as if they will hyperextend when I am walking down stairs and I now have to hold onto railing going upstairs. . I, too, am interested in joining this Class Action lawsuit only because it is NOT an isolated incident-there are so many people with the same-or WORSE!-problems resulting from these sneakers-my complaint goes beyond the false advertising of this company-there needs to be a warning attached! How does one go about getting g[joining this Class Action suit?
  46. I have worn these shoes everyday for the last 6 months. I noticed knee pain about 4 months ago and thought it was just getting older but I am only 44. Just searched the internet to see if it might be the shoes and it looks like it is. I am a business owner and work 7 days a week 11 hours a day on my feet most of it. I was so happy that I found comfortable shoes but it looks like they aren't as comfortable as I thought. I have problems getting up from a bend stance. Sad
  47. hi my name is helen. the problem im having with the sketcher gym shoes my ankle is crashing and the back top of the shoe digs in the back of my heel.
  48. My husband bought these shape up shoes for mothers day last year, I started wearing the shoes following the instructions for a couple of hours at the time until my body got use to them, they are really comfy and so I thought but I noticed after taking the shoes off the ball and arch of both feet hurt NonStop. I stop wearing the shoes thinking pain would go away but it hasn't. I now wear other shoes and wish I could get my money back and have the pain on my feet go away after all I'm on my feet ALL DAY*full time mom with 3jobs*:'(
  49. I used to walk 5 miles a day in CA.I moved to AZ & I bought Skechers shape-ups.Starting in March I walked a mile in them for about a week & they felt good so I bought a 2nd pair,on sale.I wish I had checked on line first because they were still being advertised. So I thought all was ok.My shoulders started to hurt in places I did't know I had. On the first day of the 2nd week I walked my mile I was ok. However the next day I could not walk without the help of a walking stick my right hip right in the middle of the butt cheek and my left knee. It took over 10 days to get back to walk normal. So I laid off of the walking. However I missed it so on Sat 4/23 I walked around the block, approx10 minutes.Deja vu Easter Sunday and today I still can not walk without assistance & the pain between my shoulders is incredible.I'm on a fixed income, I can't afford to go to a Dr. I just try icing and stretching. I definitely want to part of this suit.Thank you to the first person who pointed this out.
  50. I am a 66 year old female who has owned Sketchers shape ups for about one year. Over time I have noticed increasing problems with legs and thigh aches and cramping in my feet and thighs. Also more back discomfort and recently increased hip pain. I am constantly on guard regarding balance. I do not wear them every day. They were not inexpensive to buy but now I am afraid to continue using them.
  51. I had two pairs of these shoes, cant wear any other shoe due to shin pain and hip pain, these shoes are not safe needs to be pulled from market
  52. I bought a pair about 6 weeks ago and am now recovering from a broken fibula. I fell while walking my dog. My dog had nothing to with it and I have walked the same route for many years. The bottoms are so big that you cannot feel the ground under neath you. I do not recommend these shoes unless you wear them inside and switch off with regular athletic shoes. These shoes just tone different muscles than regular athletic shoes.
  53. While wearing Shape Ups I twisted my ankle and fell down the stairs and broke my right ankle in several places and sprained my left...Out of work for two weeks These shoes are hazardous to your health.
  54. I have had foot and back pain most of my life. When I heard about sketchers shape-ups I was very skeptical. I couldn't believe it the first time I tried them on. NO pain! They were on sale but still fairly expensive but not as expensive as fashion and designer shoes. I don't have any previous Balance, Knee, or Stumbling Issues. I simply followed the directions as instructed and have been wearing them for over 6 months without any pain! If you know me, you know, that is huge.
  55. I purchased these and wore as a nurse all day at work. I had no pre-existing knee or back problems. I ended up having to take steroids/muscle relaxants d/t sciatica and pain to my left knee. I discontinued the shoes and no problems since. I am interested in seeing how to join the suit to get refunds on the shoe price as well as medical bills.....How can one join??
  56. My husband purchased the Sketchers as a Christmas gift and I was so excited about these shoes. After wearing them for a short time my legs and back hurt. When wearing the shoes I would have alot of pain in my calves and even in my feet. I would have to hurry to take them off to help ease the sudden pain they caused. I would also usually end of with charlie horse pain in one of my calves and this too was very painful. With extended wear I noticed my lower back hurt as well. Anytime I would wear the shoes for any length of time I was in some sort of pain. I now have a pair of expensive shoes that I wouldn't recommend anyone wear. Please include me in this class action suit!
  57. I have flat fee and need an arch support for my shoes I tried all sorts of supports from the good feet store and TV advertised supports and they all made my toes feel numb the bottom of my feet were always in pain. The regular shoes they have out now do not have any arch supports in them, and it makes your body alignment out of wak. They cause pain in my knees from being out of alinement. It was to the point were I was not able to walk up stairs any more. But on Nov. 2009 I bought my first pair of Shape-ups from Sketchers the moment I put them on and walked in them my pain lifted. I felt no pressure on my knees it form a natural arch support for my feet. I felt I didn't want to take them off. It is now Apr. 2011 and I still have them. I stand and work 8-12 hours a day! 5 days a week!! They are still holding up! They are the best shoes on the planet. I'm definitely buying them again! By the way I still have no pain in my legs.
  58. I forgot to mention, I also have flat feet, can not walk barefoot and need an arch support but the shoes now being produced are so cheap and no arch support. I love my Sketchers!! I hope people realize wearing any new type of shoe is going to cause your body, legs, hips, etc to align differently especially if you've never had an arch support before. I hope they don't take them away. I can't wear anything else to relieve my pain.
  59. I have owned several pairs of shoes that made my feet/ankles/legs hurt. You know what I did to remedy the situation? I bought a different pair of shoes. Problem solved.
  60. I own a pair of sketchers, which has caused pain in my calfs. But the most urgent problem- I was at my daughters house going down her steps to leave when I was on the next to the last step my shoe rolled forward causing me to loose my balance. I fell onto her landing and fractured my tibula on my right ankle. I would advise anyone to use caution when wearing these shoes.
  61. This suit is absolutely ridiculous and all of you monkeys who believe in this crap are very selfish and naive people. How many pairs of shoes have made your feet/knees/back hurt in your life? I personally have had many. You give them away and try another kind, right? I have flat feet and these shoes have straightened me right up and my knees feel so much better at the end of the day. They are cushiony and theymake me walk with my stomache instead of dragging my legs around slouching. Many people at my work rant and rave about them too, esp Jeff who was in a motorcycle accident and had a knee replaced. He swears these shoes make his knee feel better. To each their own, dumbasses. Not everyone is built the same. And the people who have "long term effect" Wouldn't the pain from the initial first day/week tell you something, like maybe these shoes aren't for you, and go find yourself another pair like any other honest american do? Or are you really that stupid...
  62. I know been a fan of Skechers for years & have purchased several pairs. When the Shape-ups came out I knew in my heart I wanted those also. I waited awhile because I wanted to see how they fared. I was so excited about them I couldn't wait to walk in them. A few weeks after wearing them I noticed a slight pain in my knee. I definitely was in denial that the pain could be contributed to my Shape-ups. So for my walks I continued to use them. It has come down to having to stop using them. I have to wear a brace now so I can do some walking. I never had knee pain before & am very disappointed in Skechers for promoting something that is so profoundingly damaging.
  63. I thought my issue was something else but after a comment made yesterday I am reconsidering. I think because I wear Skechers at work all day and then normal shoes on the weekend, including flat shoes some days, it is causing the pain in my right foot.
  64. Although I found the Shape-Ups to be comfortable to my foot, within one month of wearing them to work daily I started having severe knee pain. Two months after wearing them I am recovering from surgery for a meniscus tear to my right knee. I am out of work for a month and also have surgery bills to pay. Needless to say, I am disappointed in the product. I've had no problems with the Sketchers Tone Ups, but the Shape Ups can take a hike.
  65. I'm 40 years old and purchased these shoes to help me tone and get in shape, lose weight.. all that jazz they say they do. I received my shoes on April 26th. On April 27th, I wore them to work. I work a desk job No problems. Took them off when I got home. April 28th,again to work.. No issues. That evening pop in the work out cd. No issues while doing the work out tape. Friday April 29th 2011--vaca from work. ran errands. Came home..sat a spell. That evening.. walked out of my apartment (still had the shape ups on) got half way to my car and heard a loud Pop in my left Leg... Pain ran down my left leg from my knee on and in the back of my knee. Could not walk/move. In pain still on Sunday I went to the local Clinic... may have torn my meniscus. Need to see the orthopedist. was able to see them on Monday.. A shot in the knee with cortisone. I had pain last night beyond belief. Just trying to stand up. Now MRI and more follow up visits to the orthopedist. Thanks Sketchers.
  66. i have only worn mine six or seven times b/c every time i do, my back hurts. the last time i wore them, two weeks ago, i didn't notice anything until two days later when i tried to kneel down to put my dog's collar on him. i must have hurt my hamstring, pulled it or something. but it is very painful. i still cannot kneel without screaming a little, as it hasn't improved at all.
  67. I totally love these shapeups. These people are just another group of people wanting to fetch money. I feel great, running in them, walking in them etc. I use to have pain in my heel and now its completely gone. Way to go Shapeups! Bunch of winers
  68. I LOVED these shoes. They helped with my back pain and were the best thing I ever put on my feet. Now I am laid up with a torn calf muscle. Have been dealing with calf cramps for the past couple of months , thought it might be a calcium deficiency, but now after reading this I am not so sure. I don't think it is just a coincidence or people are being whiners. I mean why would my calf muscle just tear when I was not doing anything out of the ordinary? Just taking the stairs.
  69. I would like information as I jumped off the bottom bleacher at my daughters state volleyball game. These so not stable shoes I paid $100 bucks for my leg snapped I tore my acl and have been laid up for 3 months...
  70. I had no problem with the first shape ups I purchased 2 years ago. In Sept I purchased the "WORK" shape up, as did friends and for the last 3 months, could barely walk pain in the calf knee and back of knee so bad. Really wish I could get money back for these 100 dollar shoes!
  71. Bought my skechers shape up accelerators about 5 months ago. Wore them as instructed. At first, they were great, then after about 2-3 months I noticed a pain in my left knee which got worse and worse, making it difficult to run or work out at all. Finally had to stop wearing the shoes - pain has somewhat lessened but not sure if it will go away or not. I'm 28 and have never had any health problems at all before this - wish I had seen this website before I bought the shape ups.
  72. I purchased my first pair of shapeup in 2009, had no previous knee problems. I like my first pair so much i purchased another pair at a local outlet mall just with in the last 6 months my right knee has begin swelling with pain radiating down my hamstring area i continual to wear my shapeups but now my left knee is also swollen and painful just finish take a 7 days of steroids and the dr. had me on bed rest .yes i to would like more informations concerning this class action law suite thanks
  73. I never had a problem with any other sneaker during my walks until I started wearing Skechers Shape-ups. After wearing them for less than a week I started getting pain in my left leg, in a couple of days the muscle in the back of my left leg began to swell. I used ice and took Motrin to relieve the pain and swelling. After a few weeks I thought that would help, it didn't. The swelling and the pain was worse at night. I went to the emergency room at the hospital and told them what had happen and I was told to stop wearing the Shape-ups and to get information online regarding these sneakers. I found a lot of info regarding Skechers Shape-ups, people having medical problems with their hips and other parts of their body from wearing the Shape-up sneakers. After a month the swelling still hasn't gone down. I have to make an appointment with my doctor to find a way to help the swelling go down and the pain go away, which sometimes is unbearable.
  74. i am a waitress and i am on my feet for 8-12 hours a day so i bought the shape ups work and have been wearing them everyday for @ six months.the balls of my feet are really starting to hurt me.one foot more than the other.i have started to baby the foot that is not so bad and now have a slight limp.i have had to stop working out also because it is to much on my foot.how do i get involved in this lawsuit
  75. I am so glad I found this site. I just bought shape up's at Ross for $40. They still have the tags. Will definitely be returning this shameless product that causes health problems, exacerbated health problems, medical bills, loss of work,etc.,etc. Heed this lesson everyone that people, companies, and organizations will sell, market, and defend anything for profit as seen in other comments!!! I have made bad purchases and choices and I learn from it everytime. Thank God for the internet, research, and people that are willing to speak out. The only one I truely trust with every fiber is JESUS and his account in the Bible. The ways of this world are wicked. I just started tithing over 10% to World Vision to further God's kingdom. This helps me to die to the bongage of self further. I am overjoyed to be used by God to help exploited children all over the world. The sin nature that has exploited these children is the same sin nature that created these shoes.
  76. I have been using Sketchers Shape-ups for one year now. I was a big supporter of this shoe up until now. I am having a lot of problems. First my lift foot started to heart thin charley horses in the day time, sharp pain in the top of my foot and now shin splints and my tale bone hurting most the time very painful to set and getting up and down. I have stopped using my Sketchers for a week and taking Anti-inflammatory medications and I am feeling better, but I know it will be sometime before all the pain is gone, if every.
  77. Hi I want to get more info on this class action suite as well. My grandfather has a torn miniscus from these shoes.
  78. not sure about all these comments...i have about 7 pair, At first i think they were helping me...they are so soft and comfortable...my knees were bad to begin with... the knees are worst maybe because of my lack of weight loss...but in process of figuring out if i should have bilateral knees replaced... just not sure if it is my shoes i love or me...must do more research, but until then i will not purchase any more toning shoes...just soft shoes i guesss...signed dont' know
  79. My wife just turned 50. Was walking our dog May 4th in the morning like always. She fell. Stated she tried to stop but the shoe rocked forward. Fractured her hip.
  80. I am just 41 years old and I have been wearing these sketchers for a couple months. I love how comfortable they are and I can now wear them all day,BUT I have fallen twice and sprained my ankle twice. Second time was today. All I did was get up from a chair and my foot didn't set down exactly square to the floor, my foot rolled and ripped my ankle. I have never had that happen in other shoes. I fell getting out of our truck, cause of the same thing and I sprained both ankles. These shoes are not safe!!!!!!
  81. I bought shape ups when they first came out with them, about two years ago. I have three pairs. No problems until about three weeks ago, I-started getting Charley horses every night, and the past two nights I have experienced hip bursitis that was absolutely horrific. There is nothing different with the activities I am performing. I am a nurse and wear shape ups throughout the day. I also do zumba classes, and use a treadmill regularly. I am not overweight, nor am I 'sue happy'. However I am very scared of the damage the shoes are causing and would like to see the shoes removed from the markets.
  82. the person that took the shoe design to sketchers didnt get the whole design or you would have experianced much more pain in the feet lower legs and outer thighs there only for flat land.this shoe isnt for everyone. the shoes origanale design was to simulate walking up hill and down hill in a hill to toe step without taking the hillstep away from the toe they arent for the faint of heart since the shoe stretches the foot the calf and the lower thigh.you wont get any where but hurt if your out dry sailing them those of you that are out running in them when used properly make sure you keep up with your fluids dont get to far ahead or to far behind your cartilidges and your bones only go together one way if you use your imagination you can do alot with them to strengthen tone and firm
  83. After only wearing the Sketchers a few times, I was walking down my front steps when my calf muscle popped really loud. I was in excruating pain. After going to the doctor and being x-rayed, I was sent for an MRI and then to an orthepedic doctor to find out that I had a tear in my calf muscle. I strongly feel these shoes were the cause of this problem. I haven't worn them since. I am an active person and haven't had any trouble like that before wearing these shape ups. I'd like to get in on this action suit.
  84. oops forgot to fill this in when I wrote my bit about falling down the front stair and broke my ankle and sprained the other.
  85. I want to join this law suit. While wearing skechers I twisted my knee, tore the menicus in my left knee and now facing a surgery in July 20ll to have it repaired. These shoes need to be taken off the market.
  86. i began wearing the skeechers in may of 2010. by july i went to the er after work .my left knee was swollen. in september my right knee was having pain. this year i went back to my ortho dr. my mri s show bad cartilage damage to both knees. i have been having alot of pain in booth knees. i will be having surgery next month
  87. I got a pair of these and wore them ever day, to work for about 3 months. My low back was hurting so I started only wearing them a few days a week. I had to stop. My back was hurting on a regular basis, pain burning all the way down my legs and a burning pain (like fire) on the bottom of my right foot. I had a MRI. It did not show a reason for the symptoms but they continued to get worse. I ended up in pain all day ( I work in a hospital) then having to take pain medication just to get it to ease up and so I could sleep. I finally went to a pain clinic and had cortison type injections under floro twice for it to finally make the pain bearable...
  88. I AM 67 YRS.OLD AND WAS TOLD SKECHERS SHAPE-UP SNEAKERS WOULD BE A GOOD WALKING SHOE. I HAVE BEEN WEARING THEM SINCE LAST SUMMER AND NOTICED MY BACK WAS HURTING. UNKNOWLINGLY I KEPT WEARING THEM AND MY HIP IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT THANKS TO THESE SKECHERS SHOES. I WILL NEVER WEAR THEM AGAIN. WENT TO THE CHIROPRACTOR SEVERAL TIMES TO HELP RELIEVE THE PAIN. IT THREW MY BACK OUT SO MUCH THAT ONE LEG WAS LONGER THAN THE OTHER, UNTIL HE PUT THE HIP BACK IN PLACE.I AM STILL IN PAIN AND DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO...
  89. I bought sketchers because I am disabled and thought it would prove my walking experience, instead it has caused me much pain and discomfort. I would also like to know how to become apart of this Suit,
  90. I had a pair of the Shape Ups as well. I wore them 5 days a week to work in a doctors office. In July of 2010 I fractured my right foot. I got the cast off in October 2010. In January of 2011 I fractured my left foot. My doctor believes that this is due to the Shape Up shoes. I have incurred a great deal of cost from going to the doctor, having x rays, MRI and Dexa Scan. I would like to be a part of this lawsuit. These shoes need to be taken off the market immediately!
  91. Please tell me how to get info on the class action suit. I've worn shape ups year round for 3 years. I just today learned of problems others have had. I may have a reason for all my painI am experienceing foot, leg, hip and back problems. I need infor please, please, please.
  92. It's easy to say that someone is sue happy or possibly out of shape, when you are not the one experiencing the pain. My sister in law has no ligaments in her ankle and is on bed rest for 8 weeks. She was not out of shape or had she had any previous medical problems. She wore Shape- ups for two years, with no pain. Last summer she noticed that when she wore any shoe other than the sketchers her left ankle would swell. Like most people she did not attribute it to the sketchers. She then noticed that when she woke up in the morning her ankle would be swollen, and that her ability to walk was becoming drastically reduced. She saw an orthopedic surgeon and he asked her if she wore sketchers shapeups. She told him yes and he attributed her injury to the shoes. So not everyone has pain, or would even think that the pain they have wearing them is work out related not shoe related. It is ignorant to disregard someone experience simply because it's not yours
  93. I got shape ups for last mothers day I have had sever back and knee pain I just twisted my ankle the and ended up in the ER with torn legaments sprained. Ankle
  94. I can't help but think after reviewing so many comments that most people who purchased these shoes were looking for a solution to aches and pains that were pre existing . granted that the inovative design should maybe have come with a precautionary statement for such people. The bottom line is that if you wore these shoes and felt more pain and continued wearing them to the point of injury then the liability is with your decision. if i sold you a knife i promised would cut through anything, you couldn't blame be for cutting off your hand due to poor coordination. get over it im gonna buy a pair
  95. Wife and I both have a pair. Loved them at 1st. After 2 months of our regular 3 mile walk the shoes have major uneven wear patterns. My ankle veins are very swollen and my wife's hip is in pain. Do not buy, or wear these shoes!
  96. There is nothing wrong with these shoes. Just like when beginning any workout regimen, you consult a doctor beforehand to make sure you are fit enough to handle the task and are full aware of the risks involved in its undertaking. And so it applies with these shoes. Have/Should Skechers include this as part of their instructions? Absolutely. Should the shoes be pulled from the market because all too often people still ignore these instructions even when this and further warnings were included? Absolutely not. Take some responsibility for yourselves, folks. Skechers didn't do this to you. YOU did this to you. Smarten up.
  97. I also have worn these awful shoes..I got a stress fracture in my leg which took 7 months to heal. My orthopedic doctor told me to take them off, save them because he was certain there would be a lawsuit ovuindicanier this. How do I join this class action lawsuit?
  98. Would anyone like a free pair of Sketchers Shape-Ups size 8? You can have them!!! I'm 32 yrs old and have never had any problems with my feet, until two months of wearing these shoes and suddenly my toes went numb and my ankle swelled up. I can't say for sure if it was the shoes, but it sure is a coincedence!!! Now I can't walk and I'm waiting to see the podiatrist so he can help me get back on my feet again!!!
  99. How do I get involved in this class action suit. I bought a pair of these shoes after they came out and now I have a torn ACL. MY doctor is still debating if I will need knee surgery. Also I have calf pain when I walk.
  100. :'(Having had unrelieved pain in my left great toe and following a cortisone injection, my podiatrist suggested wearing Sketchers Shape-ups. I was able to walk initially with minimal pain but after a few weeks, I had a lot of pain in the balls of both feet. The pain has progressed to involve tops of both feet and both calves feel "tight". I have difficulty walking and descending stairs. I am NOT overweight and was previously very active. I have never been involved in a lawsuit but I feel that these shoes have contributed to my health in a very negative way. I continue to see a podiatrist and await an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. I am interested in participating in this class action law suit.
  101. I AM INTERESTED IN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE GYM FOR A FEW YRS NOW, AND I AM THE TYPE TO SPEND 3+ HRS IN THE GYM. I JUST GOT MY SKETCHER SHAPE-UP SHOES ABOUT6MONTHS AGO AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH MY MUSCLES. MY HAMSTRING WAS HURTING SO BAD THAT CAUSED ME TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THE GYM, AND NOW HAVN'ET BEEN TO THE GYM IN ABOUT 2WEEKS BECAUSE MY KNEE IS MESSED UP AS WELL NOW. I NEED INFO ON WHAT TO DO... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I NEED TO DO TO FOLLOW THIS LAWSUIT CAUSE I SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY MUSCLES BEING ONLY 21 YEARS OLD.! THANKS
  102. I started wearing shape ups after hearing all the advertisement about them. I decided to purchase a pair and thought that they were very comfortable. After months of wearing them I developed spasm through out my legs. I stop wearing the shoes and the spasm wasn't as severe, but I still get spasm from time to time now.
  103. I had heard so much advertisement about shape-up that I decided to purchase a pair this year 2011. I thought when I bought them that, wow these are really comfortable. So I wore them every day for the comfort. After months of wearing them, I developed some spasm in my legs, and decided to stop wearing them. I notice the difference after I stopped. I still get some spasm in my legs from time to time but not as bad as when I was wearing them. I am now in theraphy.
  104. had heard so much advertisement about shape-up that I decided to purchase a pair this year 2011. I thought when I bought them that, wow these are really comfortable. So I wore them every day for the comfort. After months of wearing them, I developed some spasm in my legs, and decided to stop wearing them. I notice the difference after I stopped. 105. had heard so much advertisement about shape-up that I decided to purchase a pair this year 2011. I thought when I bought them that, wow these are really comfortable. So I wore them every day for the comfort. After months of wearing them, I developed some spasm in my legs, and decided to stop wearing them. I notice the difference after I stopped. 106. I started wearing these shoes in February when I began a serious weight loss/exercise program. I walked an average of 3 miles per day. In mid-April I began to have knee pain, which I found to be aggravated by wearing the shoes, so I stopped. By May I went to a chiropractor who sent me to an orthopedic surgeon. Diagnosis: a torn menicus resulting in a "leak" causing what's known as a Baker's Cyst. I am now getting physical therapy 2 x per week and the pain isn't improving. Will probably have to have surgery to repair. Wouldn't recommend these shoes or any like them to anyone. After researching, I believe all their claims are FALSE.
  107. If there is news on a class action suit for injury can someone please email me information.
  108. I got a pair of shape ups for my birthday last year. I was told they would help with the back pain I have all the time. WRONG! The back pain got worse when I wear them and my hips would hurt so bad, I could not walk more than a city block and would have to stop. Trying to learn to walk in them as a real challenge. I fell 4 times in the first 20 feet I tried wearing them, and have fallen several times since. In the last couple of weeks,I have developed corns and sores on my little toes, because the soles are starting to shift to the inside of the shoe as I try to compensate for the other pains.
  109. I am on my 5th pair now and they are wonderful. As for the ones that are having knee problems, back, etc., did you ever think that this could have been going on before you bought these?? Also, you need to know how to walk in these, it's that simple! Hey, I have back problems, but I am by any means blaming it on these shoes. I have on and off back problems from a car accident, but I'm in great shape irregardless. Another thing too, not to be mean, but if you are overweight and using these, I wouldn't suggest it. Just use regular gym shoes, eat healthy and in moderation, drink water. It's really that simple. People are so quick to blame something else like this shoe instead of looking at either how they are using the shoe or if they should be using the shoes. Just my opinion.
  110. Kudos, Sandy, I am with you on this! You folks are a bunch of freakin dumbasses! I agree with Sandy on this totally! Everybody is so quick to jump up and sue somebody else for their own ignorance. This just sickens me!
  111. my ankles are killing me.. I have the non slip shape ups for work and my fucking ankles are aching
  112. Wow! I can't believe that all these problems are a coincidence. I have been wearing these shoes for about 5 months and can barely walk. Intense pain in both ankles that I thought was a gout flare up. Went to my rheumatologist to check my blood work and it's normal. So I am now in a air cast limping with intense pain in my right hip. (Which I never had in my life until now) Doctor said to stop wearing shape ups immediately.
  113. I got the shoes for Christmas and wore them at work. I started out with just a few minutes per day and built up to all day over a few weeks. (I'm a teacher, so I'm on my feet a lot.) I did not lose any weight, in fact I gained weight that semester. I noticed my right knee started to hurt, and then both knees hurt, and then my my right hip, too. I stopped wearing the Sketchers every day, and them stopped entirely in June. My knees and hip still hurt as school is starting up again. I am hoping and praying that I don't have to lose any time due to my joint pains.
  114. I bought these shoes and wore them daily. Now I have a torn tendon in my right ankle, requiring surgery with a hard non-walking cast for 6-8 weeks. How does one get in this lawsuit?
  115. I too would like to know how to get in on the lawsuit. After wearing sketchers for over a year (ending in July 2011), I developed severe lumbar injuries that will more than likely result in surgery. I am in the medical field and wore these shoes every single day anywhere from 8 to 10 hrs. a day. the pain began almost 2 months after wearing the shoes, dismissed at first as the shoes doing the job they were supposed to be doing. since April of 2011 have had constant back, hip, right leg pain that radiates all the way to ankle and foot. someone please advise me on how to become a part of this lawsuit.
  116. I've been wearing these shoes for almost a year. They were very comfortable. Then all of a sudden I started getting a pain in the core of my foot. I threw the shoes away and the pain ceased. Now my back has pinched nerves all up and down and my knees and hips are killing me!! My body is shifting back to its original posture and I am crippled now. I can't even lean forward and inch without screaming in pain. I am not going back to the skechers because it just isn't natural to stand forward all the time like these shoes make you do. I have never had pain like this in my life. I am off of work because of these "work" shoes.
  117. I Fell at work back in March while waring Shape-ups. I had worn the shoes maybe 3 weeks. I fell and "Sprained" my right ankle. This is going on 6 months that i have been hurt and have not gotten better. I was told this past week that i have torn ligaments and a gap between bones. I am not awaiting ankle reconstructive surgery. This includes a few hour surgery, a few days in the hospital, 5-6 weeks maybe longer in a cast, then a few months in either a boot or air cast, then physical therapy, Then most likely i wont return back to my job. I will need to find something else i can do to support myself and family. All because this company sold me on these death traps called shape-ups.
  118. I have been working out in my Sketchers for several years. I own 3 pairs.. I never attributed my back pain the last couple of years to my switch the sketchers.. until I suddenly saw something on line about the possibility. I stopped wearing them for the last few days .. totally, and I woke up the last 2 or 3 mornings without a back pain...(FOr the first well in over a year....) I simply can't believe it!! I have spent hours at PT, working out, stretching..over and beyond to see what I could do for my back. If I ahve no pain in the next week, it will certainly be the case.
  119. I wore my Skechers for the second time on Saturday in Chicago while walking to Navy Pier. I couldn't feel anything until later in the evening. Didn't think about it until I went to run the half marathon in my Nike running shoes & in my second mile my ankle had excruciating pain. I kept going thinking it was just a cramp until it went into my right ankle too. I never experienced so much pain. I finished my first half marathon & ended up calling my bone specialist today because the Skecher Shapeups have weakened my ankles & my left ankle literally looks like it swallowed a football & is still growing. I'd like to know how to get into this suit also because I have witnesses along with photos galore I'm posting all over facebook to let everyone know do not wear these evil shoes.
  120. I bought the shape-ups since they first came out and I stop wearing them because I started getting pains in my left knee ,I thought the pain was because I'm some what over weigh but now that I see it was probably also caused by the shape-ups as well.
  121. i decide to wear skechers for work ing 8 to 12hrs days.i started get pain in my leg thighs, cramps on my legs&feets all the time now that it hurts so bad that i want to cry&caant walk the cramps off.also now it hurting all down my legs to my feets&when i bent down i cant get back up without getting on my knees or grab something.they hurts all the time.i thought i had poor circulation my legs&feets so i got a doctor appointment to find out about.i was in good shape in my legs&feets now i dont know but probably caused wearing shape-ups i like to know how i can get into this suit
  122. I have been wearing sketchers for quite a while and at first had trouble adjusting to walking in them without loosing balance, but then did okay. But now I have severe foot pain and pain up my leg and into my knee and my hips. I went to see a foot doctor and she recommended orthotics.. I asked her if she had heard of anyone have additional pain with sketchers, and she didn't know, but said I should change the type of shoes that I wear and try something else. My job required alot of squatting and getting back up and used to have no problem but now can't even get up from that position without some help or something to grab onto. Please let me know if my experience can help others to avoid this kind of pain.
  123. I wore sketchers shape ups for about 3 months. I had never had any sort of foot problems before. Now I have a painful knot on top of my left foot right below my toe and I have some sort of nerve damage to where I can not feel my right pinky toe. I stopped wearing them and the knot problem has reduced, but I still have the nerve damage. Has anyone else had this problem?
  124. OMG, it's all making since to me now! I have been wearing my Skechers Women's Tone Up Sandals ( I have 3 pr) almost non-stop for the last 2 1/2 years. I thought that they would help with my back pain, give me better support than the traditional flat flip flops. I have Horrible back, hip, knee, shin pain & cramping of both feet and my shins. I have been to my doctor several times complaining of the pain. Had my knees X-rayed and a dextra scan done on my hips trying to figure out why I am in So much pain. I am showing signs of issues in my right hip and both knees. Just last month my doctor and I were talking about giving me cortisone shots in both my knees and hips to help with the pain. Boy am I glad I saw this report on the new this morning! Please send me any information you have, Thank you
  125. I bought a pair of these to help me get in shape and lose weight in January of 2011. After wearing them to the gym for about a month, I quit wearing them as my arches in my feet began to hurt every time I used them. Can I join this lawsuit? I still have the pain in my arches!
  126. I have two pair of these. They are so comfortable...HOWEVER, after wearing them as my primary shoes for almost 2 years, both my ankles began to hurt to the point that it was painful to just stand. The pain was at the anterior talofibular ligaments on the inside of both ankles. I have a "flexible flat foot" and the shoes, though offering good arch support, cause my ankles to roll inward. I stopped wearing them and after 3 months the pain went away. I still love them and will still wear them on a more limited basis. I have no plans to join this lawsuit.
  127. I want to join this lawsuit, I bought shape-ups after a recommendation from a personal trainer friend and after 3 months was having a lot of pain in my knees, ankles and the bottoms of my feet. After falling and twisting my ankle I stopped wearing them really wish I could get my money back for these. I am a CNA so I am on my feet 12 to 16 hours a shift and have never had any issues with pain until after trying these shoes out for the short period of time.
  128. I firmly believe these shoes have caused damage beyond comprehension. Since wearing them the problems I have experienced in my legs has been overwhelming. I thought the cushion and technology would help but the instability made things so much worse. My daughter also bought a pair and within weeks started having such pain in her legs and knees it became obvious they were not good.
  129. I rec'd Skecher Shape-Ups as a gift. I wore them every day for 2-3 mos., one morning I went to get out of bed & my legs were locked up, I couldn't straighten them or get up. I experienced severe back & entire left leg/hip pain for sometime after. I would like to be kept aware of the goings on of this law-suit. Deborah
  130. I have been wearing shape ups for 4 mo. I alternate wearing about every other day w/ another brand. For the past 3 weeks the bottom of my left foot started hurting as if I had a stone bruise. I began wandering if It was from the shape ups. I mentioned to a few people and they had said they had heard of this suit. My left knee had been really bothering me for about month. I haven't thought anything about it being related to the shape ups but now I am wandering if it could be. With all that said.... This suit is very interesting!
  131. I have arch problems with my feet. Two months ago I bought 3 pair of Skechers Shape Ups because they were the most comfortable shoe i've put on my feet. I am sorry to say that i now have extreme pain in my left hip radiating down to my ankle. At times i had to stop walking. Herd that my sister in law was bed ridden and has been using Shape Ups for 6 months. I have stoped using them and have an apointment with my Orthapedic on 10/3/2011. Please send me info on how to be included in the law suite. I will update with Doctor's findings.
  132. Much like everyone else, I had worn the shoes for a few months after receiving them as a gift. They were so comfortable at first but after some time my legs started locking up and at times I was unable to walk if I was wearing "normal" shoes. I would like more information on where to go to become part of this lawsuit. I thought these were a great idea at first, now I (and my legs) regret accepting them as a gift.
  133. I had been wearing the shapeups about a month when I was in so much pain, I couldn't stand it. After multiple visits to the orthopedic specialist, several cortisone shots, special inserts for my shoes, wearing the BOOT multiple times for a year, I was sent to a surgeon. He had to repair the torn ligament and plantar fascitis that would not heal. Almost a year after the surgery and weeks of physical therapy, I still walk with a limp and have begun to lose hope that I'll ever be pain free again. I now have an expensive insert in my shoes to try to give me some relief but even that falls short.
  134. I have had them for a few months and know I have a had a hard time sleeping because my legs feel wierd and tingle. My hips hurt really bad now when I sleep, and if I dont wear them for a day or so my ankles will start hurting. Keep me posted about this lawsuit.
  135. I am a haircolorist And I stand on my feet for hours. I bought a pair in September of 2010 and my butt got stronger and my posturesign got better By wearing these shoes. The shoes are great in my opion and if you have Poor posture and week knees you can fall on your face because of the Bounce they give you when you are walking or running. Ps before I was Wearing them my wife said my butt looked like a baby elephant wrinkle And saging, now she said I have a bublelishes butt, I just bought another Pair. Thank you sketchers and my wife thanks you.
  136. Swollen knee and trip to the orthopedic surgeon after wearing Sketchers Tone Ups.
  137. I started having heel pain two years ago. I saw the Shape-Ups ads and I thought maybe they would be more comfortable because they float your heel because of the rocker bottom. I bought my first pair and found that it took all the pressure off of my heel when standing/walking. Sold! So I bought 6 more pairs of Shape-Ups, so that I could wear the Mary-Jane styles at work as well. I wore my Shape-Ups almost everyday, although my heel was not tender anymore, after a few months I noticed that my knees and hips were starting to ache regularly and my lower back would be very sore at the end of the day. I finally realized that my Shape-Ups were the cause, when new ankle pain and swelling joined my new group of ailments and I quit wearing them. Now I have chronic tendinitis in my left ankle, tendinitis in both my achillies tendons as well as chronic low-lumbar back pain. What I thought was a great idea, wasn't.
  138. I have a pair of the toning shoes I just went to the Doctor and was told I have Planters F. I have the receipt and also the original, can I take them back to the store with Sketchers return ok . I was told by my doctor not to wear them. All I want to do is return them and get my money back. Will the store take them back for they are more than a few months old. Johann Deviney
  139. I also have horrible hip and back pain. I do believe it is because of these shoes. I was fine and I wore these shoes about 3 months and then I can hardly walk. It came on sudden. HORRIBLE PAIN. Now I have to see a chiropractor 3 times a week. My hips have shifted according to X-rays.
  140. Well, this explains so much. After a month of wearing these shoes properly (yes, I've followed the "directions") I can barely walk. Saw my doctor last week who asked what I had been doing to cause my back to be so far out of alignment - never thought it was my shoes. Constant leg cramping, horrible back pain, headaches, numb feet & toes. These shoes are awful.
  141. I have a pretty serious case of plantar facitus in both feet and have done everything medical professionals recommended for relief. At best I would get temporary satisfaction. The absolutely best relief has occurred since wearing Shape-ups. No pain, no tingling and no other symptoms as others have suggested. Clearly, I am fan of this Skechers product
  142. I just Want my money back at this point. Got the shoes but no receipt or box. What can I do? I have hip and back pain toobut have not seen a doctor yet.
  143. I would like to join the class action lawsuit.. I have had the Skecher shape-ups for 3 years. I have had 4 pairs one of them were the sandel type. I had severe hip pain when wearing mine. My hip will just give out going down stairs or walking down a incline it will feel like it is popping out of its socket then I have severe pain and I will have a very hard time walking. I loved them so much I wore them all the time.. But I cant wear them no longer.... I am kinda bummed because they were so comfortable when I walked in them all day at work
  144. i have two pair tell me what i need to do!
  145. I bought the shoes as well and about 2 months later I noticed that my right foot started to really hurt. Come to find out that I now have a hammer toe and severe pain in the ball of my foot.I can no longer bend my toes in my right foot. I believe it all stems from those shoes. They made my stand go forward and crammed my toes in the shoe. 6 months later after cortisone injections I can still barely walk again and my "hammer" makes it so hard to wear sandals
  146. I have two pairs of theses shoes. Please tell me what I need to do!
  147. I love michaeljonn's comment about his "bubblicious butt"! I've been wearing my Skechers "butt shoes" almost every day for a year and I LOVE them (and so does my husband)! I bought them after I had to quit running because of knee problems and I get all the benefits of running (able to eat more calories, firm legs and rear end) just by wearing them to walk my dog, do housework and give massages. My knees feel great and my posture is better too. With the shape of the sole I could see how people might topple over if they are not in shape or if they are jumping off bleachers or tripping down stairs in them. They might not be the right shoe for everyone (no shoe is), but I REALLY hope they don't pull these off the market because people who shouldn't be wearing them keep doing so after they begin to develop problems. I love my Skechers!!!
  148. I think they are great, they seem to reduce foot pain, back pain etc. extremely comfortable too. They aren't good for running but they weren't intended for that. There is some balance required as opposed to other shoes, If you're so uncoordinated and can't stand up, don't buy them. Just sit in the fat people chairs offered at Walmart and everywhere else. I don't think they do any of the firming, weight loss or other claims but anyone with any common sense should understand that you can't put on a pair of shoes and hang out at a Super Buffet eating jelly donuts to lose weight. Now everyone that's morbidly overweight are seeking damages to the tune 5 million dollars. I'm sure it couldn't be that 37% fat in your diet. Get a life and stop eating. Personal responsibility people.
  149. would like to know how to get refund on 2 pair of shoes
  150. I would appreciate a refund on my shape-ups as I cannot wear them. They very difficult for me to walk in and I lose my balance
  151. I have only had my shape-ups for 2 months & I only wear them to work, I have been suffering from awful back & sciatic pain before I started to wear them, I now have no back or sciatic pain I do also stretch my leg muscles before & after wearing them that's what you do after a workout right? Right now I am a fan.
  152. How do I file a claim? I bought 2 pair 3 years ago this month. I thought the increased knee, hip and feet pain were abnormal, but did not attribute them to wearing shoes, as I actually believed the hype. Again, how do I file a claim?
  153. I absolutely loved sketcher shape ups. Was a walking advertisement wore them 24/7 because I thought they were great and thought they helped with circulation because my ankles wouldn't swell but now I no longer see it that way back in may I noticed I was having terrible heel pain and my tendons were starting to pop when I walked. I talked to my dr and he said I have developed heel spurs and tendinitis. I have worn shape ups for over 2 years and I didn't realize till yesterday that those shoes are the reason. I went to walmart and tried those foot mapping machines and where the balls of my feet are it showed bright red. The shoes are designed to get you to walk by rolling your heels to mimic soft dirt which changes your gait wich has now caused so much pain. I wish I had not gotten these shoes. Pure pain from may and it's now October with no relief in sight. Thank You shape ups!
  154. I have two pairs that i wore everyday for two years straight and then in May this year went out and bought another two and i have only worn each one once because i tried to put on another shoe and all of a sudden i can't wear other shoes because my feet hurt so my doctor told me to stop wearing the shape ups because feet aren't made to rock i also have a torn meniscus i'm in constant pain.
  155. I would like to be in this law suit as well, wore the Sketcher Shapes Ups on and off for about 6 months. I started noticing hip "pain" right away but thought it was my muscles getting a "workout" I have been diagnosed with sciatica in my left hip, which I have can be a result from wearing toner shoes. I've spent a lot of money on doctor bills and medication because of the pain in my hip.
  156. I too would like to be in this law suit as well, wore the sketcher shapes ups off and on for about a year .I notice i can't move my big toe ,I thought i hit it and it because it was a big lump under my toe, those shoes broke my toe without me knowing that it happen .I went to a Podiatrists and i have to wear a boot for two months and then surgery for bone growning on top of bone ,can't take anything for the pain .i have hip pain also.HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! I have two pair of sketcher.
  157. I am a teacher who is on my feet almost all day. I purchased a pair of Skecher Shape-ups last year to wear daily. A few months after I began wearing them, I started experiencing severe pain in the hip area. I have seen a chiropractor about this pain; however, it has not been alleviated by any procedure. Even though I have stopped wearing the shoes, the pain is still present. I, too, would be interested in being a part of this lawsuit.
  158. I loved shape ups until I developed runners knee, foot pain and bursitus in my hip, all on the left side. The runners knee happened in a second when something pulled on the outside of my knee...crutches for two weeks...5 months have gone by and I can walk carefully now. The bursitus would have attacks causeing terrible pain that bent me over and I couldn't walk. My foot has a big bump on the top and the side of it has awfull soremess. I would be interested in being part of this lawsuit.
  159. I don't know anything about this law firm, but here's a link for anyone who feels they have a case: http://www.crafthugheslaw.com/Skechers-ShapeUps-Deceptive-Advertising-Class-Action-Lawsuit.shtml
  160. I have just read some of the most uneducated posts concerning peoples bodies. I can't believe the idiots who are trying to say the shoes caused their back, hip, knees etc to wear out!!! These same people wear far less supportive shoes and don't have any problems. Anything for a lawsuit and to explain why they can't do this or that. You people need to get a hobby or take a anatomy/physiology class.
  161. I also need to join in with this claim! I am having severe back pain, knee pain, and ankle pain.
  162. I bought my sketcher shape ups 5 months ago. My feet hurt so bad when I wear them. At first I thought I just needed to break them in, but the pain got worse in my feet. Now my lower back has started hurting when I wear them. So I stopped wearing them and the pain went away. But as soon as I put them on the pain comes back within an hour. How do I get in on the class action suit?
  163. Many of the comments on this site relate to buying the shoes and subsquently having foot, ankle and back problems. Wonder what prompted these individuals to buy these shoes in the first place? Did they think that they would suddenly become fit? Or toned? Or have the body of a twenty year old? No. Could it be that they were having problems and thought that a new pair of shoes might be helpful? I am fifty, work in a fast paced pharmacy and on my feet for 12 plus hours a day, mother to five with a 22* curvature of the spine and arthritis. I wear these shoes because it is the only shoe that I can work in without pain at the end of the day. In fact, after time off and when I find myself in pain, I wear these shoes around the house while completing housework. In a matter of hours my back is back to normal. Any potential lawsuit is in poor taste as it is only more of "what can I get for nothing?" mentality.
  164. I have bought 6 pairs of these shape ups, rec emended by my foot doctor. I had an issue with a tear in the tissue between two of my toes. I have been wearing them for about 7 months. For the past month and a half my left heal has been really hurting, mostly in the morning when I get out of bed. Then the past 2 weeks my right hip has been hurting. Between my foot and my hip its has been waking me up in the middle of the night in a lot of pain. I finally went in to see my chiropractor and he couldn't figure out what was causing the problem. So i decided to wear my regular shoes because I was hearing things about the shape ups. Now I'm not in as much pain. But my chiropractor says I will probably have to have orthopedic help.
  165. I am a RN and spend 12 hr shifts on concrete floors and would complain of bilat foot pain after each shift. I was encouraged to try sketchers. Sketchers decreased this pain to a tolerable level after wearing them for a couple of months. However, I began having severe pain in my knees and ankles. I tried to prove or disprove the shoes were responsible. I would wear the shoes for several shifts then stop wearing them to see if the shoes were the issue. The results, I duplicated the pain syndrome 3 times, except I noted the pain became consistently worse on my right side after each experiment. Now I suffer persistent low to mod grade pain in my right knee and ankle. I will never recommend these shoes to anyone and warn individuals when I see them wearing them.
  166. I would like to be involved in this lawsuit. I just bought Sketchers Shape-ups about a week and a half ago and wore them to my server job this past week. I have now had to take a few days off and I am laid out on the couch because my ankles and feet are in such bad shape, I can't walk. It literally takes all I have to move the 10 feet from my bed to the couch. I haven't been able to return them because I didn't keep the receipt. I never thought I would have a problem with shoes! I sent a letter to Sketchers and hope they will have sense enough to at least give me my money back. I can't afford to lose $80.00 and buy another pair of shoes for work.
  167. I would like to be involved in this lawsuit. Prior to purchasing and wearing the Sketchers, I was walking and hiking on a regular basis. Over the past 8 months I have been in constant pain in both my foot and hip. After months of medical care by an orthopedic and physical therapy I am unable to take even short walks. I have thrown the Sketchers away now and warn everyone I know who has them or is thinking of purchasing them to AVOID using such a dangerous shoe.
  168. i bought a pair of the sketchers shape up work shoes after 2 weeks of wearing them i am being treated for torn acl and knee sprain not a good shoe i would like too be involed in this suite if any one knows how let me no .
  169. I have been wearing sketchers for about 2 years now and have experienced both back and knee pain. How can I join the class action suit?
  170. I started wearing sketchers a couple of months ago. My hamstring started really hurting me. I thought it was the yoga class. I stopped yoga for about three mths. I stopped wearing my sketchers also. I put my sketchers on today to walk my son to school. I have a very sharp pain in my right leg ( hamstring) again. I wanted to research these shoes because I knew something was wrong. I was right. I read the reviews and I am having similiar problems. I want my money back. I wanna know how do I get my money back for these shoes. They are going to the backbof the closet until I get my refund and back to sketchers or in the garbage they go. I can't believe I thought it was my yoga class.
  171. I've had "rapidly progressing Osteo Arthritis" (due Meniscus tear/both knees/work injuries.) At this point there is barely any cartilage left. Ever since I bought the shoes, I've been able to walk/stand all day...straight posture...with NO PAIN (2 YEARS, SO FAR...) I call the shoes my 'artificial cartilage." I now have 3 pairs, and they're ALL I can wear with NO PAIN! I also introduced them to MANY more people (between the ages of 22 and 67) and I not only heard PRAISE about the shoes, I haven't heard ANY complaints, AT ALL! What I want to know is...Where has the COMMON SENSE in the human race gone? Every human body is different...ALL OF YOU need to get a life and quit trying to get others to pay for YOUR bad judgments/decisions! Just because YOU had a bad experience, it doesn't make someone else responsible! NO ONE FORCED YOU TO BUY OR TRY THAT PARTICULAR BRAND OF SHOE! GET OVER IT. If it didn't harm EVERY SINGLE PERSON that bought them and wore them...you CAN NOT blame the Company OR shoe!!!
  172. I never wish bad things on people but.... those of you that want to SCREAM and call people names just because you haven't had any problems - I hope after wearing these shoes for a few years - that you have so many problems that you can't move. I wish you lot's of back, hip, and feet surgery.
  173. Mandy people that have all these issues should diet and lose weight... Being fat alone can cause these problems... The shoes are telling you that you're nothing but a porker!!! Ever since i checked the mail box, I've had severe nose pain... I'M GOING TO SUE USPS!!!! Yeah, that's how silly you all sound, greedy for money is all... Sick
  174. I rolled my ankle while wearing sketcher shape ups and after two months I am still suffering with foot pain and have to wear a brace on my foot and ankle. My fear is i will always have pain because of this injury.
  175. sorry to hear that SOME people have had problems. I know my wife could not walk a half a block due to a workmans comp injury that ended up ending her career in healthcare. She purchased a pair of "ROCKERS" and with in a short while, her back was not bothering her. Since then, she has purchased a total of 4 pair of Sketchers Rockers, and is getting ready to purchase another pair (due to her wearing them out, she has purchased two of the standard black, and then two of the baby doll style). A year ago, I purchased a pair of STEEL TOE rockers and they have been THE MOST COMFORTABLE STEEL TOW SHOE I HAVE EVER HAD. (I have been wearing steel toes since 1975). I pray that they DO NOT DISCONTINUE THEM.
  176. one other thing, If a person has had issues, or is being caused pain when wearing something, WHY DO THEY CONTINUE TO WEAR THEM UNTIL THERE IS DAMAGE DONE? Why is it that people want to blame others for something they CHOOSE TO DO? There have been some comments that have lead me to believe there are some people that had problems before they purchased the Sketchers and they are looking for some one to blame so they can recover some money or just receive money. I had a pair of shoes a number of years ago, and wore them for a week, and threw them away. Why? cause they hurt my feet, so I got me different pair of shoes.... DUH.... If you get a sharp pain in your eye when you drink a cup of tea, TAKE THE SPOON OUT OF THE CUP..... sheesh, if you shoes hurt your feet, GET A DIFFERENT PAIR OF SHOES...
  177. I am not a sue happy person. I do believe in taking responsibility for your own actions. I loved my Sketchers.I am a waitress and resturant owner I was working two jobs at the time, I had worn my Sketchers for almost a year when I developed a very irritating pain in my ankle, I at first blew it off, now it's excruciating. I stopped wearing the Sketchers immediately after the pain started and now the pain won't stop...ever! Its a throbbing sharp constant pain inside beneath the bone that juts out on ankle (I'm NOT in the med proffession obviously) I went to my doctor he is now sending me to a specialist. I don't have insurance so can't afford the specialist or the surgery they said I'll need. I just wanted to know why?? Now I know, Thank you. To the negative people and their comments, Just Go Away!!! Why are you on here anyway! There is no reason to be hateful and vicious to those you know nothing about!! By the way I'm 31 athletic, and healthy.
  178. how do i get involved with this lawsuit i had this shoes and i had fallen and hurt my ankle and i couldn't wear any shoes for two months that's how swollen my foot got
  179. I wore these shoes to work because they were slip resistant as I worked at Taco Bueno. And also bought my mother a pair for work in the kitchen at the casino. I wore them all the time which cause alot of back and leg pain. I would like to get involved in this lawsuit please let me know how.
  180. I waitress for a living and purchased the Shape Ups in July - I wear them everyday - Now I have injuries and went to the ER for Sciatica pain that was unbearable - i didnt relate injury to the shoes untill my second visit to a doctor - He gave me a deep muscle shot of steroids put me on meds and started to feel better - went back to work and was wearing my shape ups by the next day the pain returned and its even worse -Now the right leg is so painful all the way to my knee and I am heading back to the doctor again - They shd not be able to sell these sneakers without a warning - If i had known the damage they would do to me I wd never ever gotten them
  181. I bought one pair of the SRR version and thought the shoes were so comfortable that I bought them despite the fact that the only color left was not that great looking to me, I figured it would be a pair of walking shoes. I soon bought another pair of the SSR version of the shape ups that were a color that I liked better. Both shoes were obtained for about 34.99 each. I liked them so much that I took dad to a different brand store to get a pair and that is where I found a color that I had to have, and at only 29.99, I couldn't pass them up. I later came upon a pair of the SRT's (shaped a little different) priced in the 20's. From what I can tell, there are at least three basic types of Shape ups made by Skechers. When I started hearing of the issues people have been having, I stopped wearing the shoes on a semi regular basis, especially after one day of wearing the third pair for the first time.
  182. I went to the chiropractor and she used some tool to correct what appeared to be a twisting of two lower vertebra, she used some neat little tool where she made a few taps here and a few taps there and that next day I felt like new . I also have a pair of minimalist shoes (the ones shaped like a foot with toes). Usually before, but sometimes after, I will do research whenever something captures my attention such as this has. Sadly in this case, it was after. Any shoe that causes you to walk differently from the way you have been walking most of your life can cause potential serious problems, even if the shoe is made to make you walk like the body was supposed to walk; even worse in the case of the shape up. One other thing I learned is the subject of shoe defects.. This is another thing that can cause serious problems and have you in physical therapy for months.
  183. Of the 4 shape ups I owned, I noticed that there was only one pair I could wear without noticing some tension in my lower back (of course, the ugly color ones I bought the first go around). When I learned what to look for in defective shoes, I tested all four pair and found the soles of the SRT, the Standard type, and one of the SRR pairs were warped to the point that the shoes (the left one for some reason) caused my left foot to walk differently. The defect issue allowed me to return the defective pairs back to the store and get my money back, but the combination of abnormal walking and defective shoes showed up in my back in less than a day. My dads shoes were fine, and the fact that he has been wearing a cheap knock off of the shape up seems to have prepared his body for the shape up, and he has enough shoes to wear a different pair every day of the week and only wears them on occasion.
  184. I work in a hospital. I have worn the shapeups for about 6 months. While wearing them in Oct 2011 I rolled my ankle over. What was diagnosed as just a sprain ended with with a total ankle reconstruction for torn ligaments and tendons. Please get rid of these shoes if you have them before you get hurt.
  185. I am 24 years old. I bought those devil shoes in the summer and wore then for not even 3 weeks.... I have SUCH bad knee pain it NEVER goes away... I am ALWAYS in pain just depends on the level..... I hate it though, like I said I am only 24 years old. I cant enjoy concerts anymore, my work is starting to suffer because its a lot harder for me to move and I had NO problems before I bought these shoes.... I hate my life now because of these shoes....
  186. I own a pair of shape-ups for about 2 years now. I feel like I put too much pressure on the ankles when I walk in them, that's why I hardly wear them. I'd like to get my money back. Now I just discovered that all these people are injured by them. How do I get my money back? They cost around $100
  187. Today (Jan 7 2012) I tripped over my my heel which got in the way of my right ankle after the sole of my left shoe tumbled over a curb, tearing something in my right ankle. I have never fallen over while walking since about age 3, and I'm over 50 now, former long distance cross-country runner. Wish I had read up more on these ankle breakers before I bought 'em. I've never even considered suing for a defective product before but definitely am now.
  188. I've owned my Shape-Ups for about a year. I've had several falls but blamed my own carelessness although I had never fallen before. I continued to wear the shoes each day for my morning walk until about three months ago, when I began experiencing severe pain and swelling in both ankles, right knee and leg. Today, after four doctor's appointments, one x-ray, one ultrasound, and anti-inflammatory meds, my ankle and leg are still swollen and painful. I can barely walk, much less exercise, and it's affecting my back and posture. I would certainly like to get my $80 back I paid for these shoes.
  189. I purchased Shapes a few months ago and have caused a also have been experiencing severe pain in my right foot.
  190. I was given these shoes as a present.... Wore them for 1 week straight, working out in a warehouse lugging around boxes and basically on my feet the entire time. The arches of my feet were in incredible pain, start making a horrible "crunching" feeling, and my shins started to cause me pain. At that point I stopped wearing these shoes and went back to wearing my old ones. I'm afraid to even know what that little bit of wear has done to my feet..... Sad I would like to be included in this lawsuit, because I was given those shoes to help tone up while I'm working during the day... Only to have it resulting in extreme pain the entire time.
  191. I bought and wore these shoes for over a year ago and now I have been experiencing pain in my left leg and hip when I try to walk and stand. I have been to the emergency room for treatment. I was told to stop wearing the shoes and to go to therapy because it was a sciatic nerve. the pain is so severe at time I have to stop doing my work around the house until the pain stops. I have very intense muscle spasms where I just cannot move around at times. I am problems getting in and out bed
  192. I have been bed bound for 3 weeks because of a Tibia Fracture and other injuries. I was wearing Sketcher shoes when they rocked me backward...end of story. DO NOT WEAR THESE SHOES.
  193. The shoe really really injured me too. I wored Shape-up for only one day (walked probably 8 hrs+ that day) on Dec 24th, and now it's Jan 11th-- my waist/buttocks still hurt. At first, i struggle to even get off my bed becuase of the pain, and now I'm getting better but I'm still in a lot of pain whenever bending forward to pick something up. I really suspect it's the shoe since I never had any lifestyle changes or injury except for the new shoe.
  194. Two years ago I purchased a pair of skeches and wore them proudely. I began to experience severe back pain, sciatic like taking prescription drugs (not a good feeling). I was told not to wear the shoes anytmore.
  195. After seeing many ads touting the benefits of Sketchers Shape up shoes, I decided to try a pair. I walk on a treadmill at my house 5 days a week. Well, within a week of walking on my treadmill, I started having pain in my left hip. I kept using them thinking that my body just had to get used to the new shoes. However, my hip continued the bother me. Finally, I connected the pain with the Shape up shoes. I immediately stopped wearing them. I went to my doctor because my hip was really bothering me and she said I had bursitis probably caused by wearing the shoes. I have been walking on the treadmill for many years wearing Brooks shoes and have never had a problem before. I now have gone back to using my Brooks shoes and the pain has lessened but definitely not gone away.
  196. I am 48 yrs old. I'm a bartender and work 5 to 6 day a week. I also have plantar fasciiitis in both feet. I got the shape ups because of the softness in inner sole which made my feet feel better, but now both knees are always swollen and ache. My right knee tends to pop resulting in my inability to walk. I have even fallen a few times because my knee knee goes out. I have pain in my hip and back as well. I had no idea my shape ups could have caused this. I will make my doctor aware of this and i will stop wearing them immediately.
  197. I bought these shoes too and was injuried wearing them. I was told to stop wearing the shoes and when i did the pain went away. I still have the shoes and now am out the money i paid for them which is not right, i would like to also get a refund for these shoes,
  198. I purchased my sketchers sometime in June 2010 at JC Penneys for $100.00. I wore then to work because I parked my car approx. 2 long blocks and needed something comfortable to wear. I wore then for about 2 hours walking at Orange county fairgrounds and was experiencing severe pain on my knees and feet. I got home at took off shoes and never wore them again. I then went to doctor due to severe pain had an MRI and found out I tore my meniscus. I knee is not the same. I only have a bill of $3,000.00 to show for what I had to pay for this injury and I really believe it was due to the shape-ups. I walk with a limp now and probably will for the rest of my life.
  199. I have fought ankle pain for years due to flat feet and resulting tendonitis. These shoes have CURED me almost completely. I do wear other shoes on certain days, and for hiking on uneven or slick surfaces, but have no problem switching from one to another. I would hate to see these pulled from the market because of those who most likely had pre-existing conditions before wearing the shoes. It may just be that they aren't for everyone. And, what about the original rocker shoes, MBT, that cost anywhere from $100 to $250 per pair? Is it that MBT doesn't have the deep pockets that Skechers is perceived to have?
  200. i HAVE NEVER HAD BACK PAIN. i GOT THESE sKETCHERS sHAPE-UPS LAST MONTH AND WORE THEM A COUPLE OF TIMES AND GOT A BIT OF HIP PAIN SO I STOPPED WEARING THEM FOR A FEW WEEKS. I FELT THAT I HAD WORN THEM TOO OFTEN SO I BEGAN WEARING FOR A SHORT TIME EACH DAY. ONE DAY I WOKE UP WITH TERRIBLE HIP PAIN IN MY RIGHT HIP. i AM CODDLING MY BACK AND WAITING RO IT TO GET BETTER.
  201. I have worn these shoes for 5 months and they have improved my posture and have had no problems, I previously had knee pain and its gone ! - I think you are all just looking for someone to blame for your OWN posture and core problems. I do core and strength exercises as well - but you have to...its common sense - we sit down so much. STOP BLAMING OTHERS AND MAN UP.
  202. i have been wearing the shape up sketchers for 7 to 8 months, and my back has gotten so bad that i can barely do anything anymore.must less even clean my house.i would like to know how i can get in on the lawsuit.my back is in a real mess.im going to see my dr. in feb.
  203. Ever since I started wearing skechers for walking I have experienced severe shin pain. After one and a half years I switched to a more form fitting low shoe and am trying to recover. the shin pain is not present when I walk now
  204. I am a security officer and do a lot of walking do I purchased a pair. At first they felt really good with the arch support. After about a year of only wearing them at work I noticed my knees and hips began to hurt. I stopped wearing them because I was given a new position that requires business casual. The knee and hip pain went away. With it being winter I have been wearing boots instead. With our unusual warm weather it is to warm for boots and to cold for dressy shoes. (I am a security officer in a warehouse) I started to wear my skecher shape ups again and after two weeks I noticed my knees are sore and swollen. I will never wear these shoes again.
  205. I would also like information about this, ,I followed all the directions and have had these skechers shape ups for a year now and have been having severe ankle and foot pain.
  206. I have a friend that does not have access to a computer that has to go into surgery because she wore shape ups @ work. She has asked me to get information on how to get involved in the lawsuit. She is 38 years old and can barely walk because of them. Her surgery is going to put her off her feet for more than 2 months and has to pay someone to take care of her and her 3 year old child
  207. I wore the shape ups all the time never thinking they were going to cause me serious health problems. I have had serious knee, back and feet pain. It was so bad I could not put my feet down without extreme pain and sometimes I would fall when trying to walk. For days I could not walk. After several doctors and leg injections my latest doctor told me the shoes were putting stress on my body. I have stopped wearing the shoes but I can no longer go barefoot without pain and almost falling. I wear birkenstocks all day long even in the house. My feet, back and knees hurt all the time.
  208. After wearing shape-ups for about 6 mo. on the treadmill walking 2 mi. a day.I have had sever back and hip pain since that at times goes down the legs. Therapy did not solve the pain issue. I wake up at night crying with pain and have to take daily doses of vicodin for temporary relief. Doctors have sugested posible spine injections or sugery. Need help--would like to know more about whats going on with class action and how to be included.
  209. I don't see any forms yet to file? I also wore these shoes when they first came out, I wore then for the entire day, needless to say I ended up having low back pain that radiated all the way down to my hip and bottom leg. I was in bed for 2 weeks on Ibuprofen. My doctor also recommend I stopped wearing them. I contacted Sketchers sent them my medical records, took them a year to get back to me and provided a refund. I'm still concerned of the impact that it has caused me.
  210. I love my shape ups I stand on my feet 12+ hours aday and after 2 years of daily wear my back and legs feel great better than not wearing them I have also not twisted my ankle since wearing them(I had twisted it 8 times in 2 years without the shape ups).
  211. I purchased my shoes two year ago but was unable to wear due to lower back pain. I still have my receipt. How can I be refunded?
  212. I have lower back pain, knee pain. I have had these shoes for about 1 year.
  213. For the people who say that it's the user who's making the issue, I'll just say this. I was perfectly fine until I wore a pair fairly consistently for 2-3 months. By that time, I was hobbling on one ankle. I went to two different doctors (while wearing them) and the first asked if I had anything else in the car because they should be thrown away immediately. The second said the same thing. After x-rays and 2 months of physical therapy, I'm now recovered but looking to at least get the money back spent on the shoes - not to mention all of the money spent on medical expenses.
  214. I have been wearing Sketchers for two years.. I have notice I didn't have anymore back pain.. But I Just recently bought a different pair of shoes and noticed my heel was starting to hurt. It now has been 2 months wearing these shoes and my pain is so much worse. I cant even walk bare foot at home. But I did notice that when I wear my tone up filp-flops my foot feels better.. An that's because my foot has already formed it self to the way the tone-up shoe is made..OMG!! So I started thinking and I put 2 and 2 together and decided to look on-line.. (Omg!! again) I didn't think these shoes would cause so much pain to so many people... Time to trash these flip-flops and never look back at Skectchers!!
  215. Who ever is trying to sue for these shoes are crazy. Your the ones that bought them, take the blame. I have worn these shoes sense they came out. I work 10 hours a day 5 days a week non stop, i used to come home and cry cause my knees hurt so bad and needed surgery. Sense wearing shape ups my knees don't hurt hardly at all. Saved my life. I got my mom and sister to try them and they have Charcot-marie-tooth Disease a form of ms and they can actually walk with out falling all the time and my mom cant walk in normal shoes now cause she can walk the right way now. Ill back ya for this sketchers they awesome. Everyone at my work wears them thank you much.
  216. So today a friend mentioned a class action law suite against Sketchers Shapes Up. She knows I wear them all the time. I started having pain in my heal about four months ago. My doctor called it one thing from x-rays, but I now think it is the shoes. I don't know if I will be involved with the law suite, because I am the one that bought the shoes.
  217. I spent over $100.00 on these shoes and tryed to wear them as the instructions said.I hate the shoes and just wish for my money back or even to trade these shoes for another style.
  218. I am 40 years old and i wear the sketchers shapes up over year and half like for 6 to 7 hours a day. i went to orthopedic sines i start having bad pain in my both knee and he found that i have torn my catlige in both knee and i almost positive that is from the shoes!!! How do i join this lawsuite?
  219. i have 3 pairs of sketchers shape ups. my husband LOVES what it did for my rear end. i wore them when i was pregnant, and i'll admit i've had stress fractures in my feet for a few years from working jobs where i stand for long hours. these shoes made it to where when i got home from work i can barely walk from my car to the couch. even after switching to regular shoes, im still having the same problems. so while it was preexisting, it made it worse. how do i find out more about this lawsuit?
  220. I have worn these shoes everyday for a yr . 6 months into wearing them awoke up one morning and could not move my neck .. I went to the hospital and was having severe muscle spasm . A few months previous I was un the er for sever back spasm ... I constantly have a stiff back and neck. This causes constant migrane and pain . I was.on a medicine that caused me to gain 30 lbs . The marketing says burn calories !! Tone muscle!! This is a load of crap. I did not loose weight at all . Instead constant pain and muscle spasm . Did I say I was a healthy 22 yr old female ? Do not wear these shoes !!!!!
  221. I had previously worn these for short walks. I used them for a 25 minute walk for three days on my treadmill and the next night started having pain in my back, hips, and upper legs. By the third nite with no sleep and severe pain, I went to the ER for a shot, x-rays, and prescriptions. I had strained my hip. Still have pain a week later rotating from back, legs to hip which is the worst and spend most of time in bed to try to heal. Plan a follow up to my doctor This or next week.
  222. I have two pair of shapeups. the first time I wore my first pair I expierenced pain in my calves and my abdodimen I figured its all part of the so called work out! I continued to wear them everyday! They began to wear out so I bought a new pair! I have been wearing them for awhile now and was ok but still expeirencing the pain from the first pair still thinking its all part of the expirence! About 3 months ago I began expierencing knee pain. Tingles and feelings of something ripping inside my knee. Constant pain for long and short periods of time. Its off and on. I have not expeirenced knee pain before, I believe it may be the shoes.
  223. I ordered my Shape ups straight from Skechers and I was looking forward to getting them. Once I got them I wore them everytime I was not in dress shoes for an entire 2 years and I noticed that my ankle and my hips kept feeling like they were being pulled from the joints. Of course it did not help with those spot areas they claimed their shoes would help in so now I am wearing different brand.
  224. Wore them for about a year on and off...just casual use and only for walking. I was running with my students the other day...didn't even think about the fact that I was wearing my Sketchers. MAJOR injury! Possible break in my foot and a torn tendon. I am an active person and workout at least 5 days a week. This was not a freak accident...it was because of the shoes!
  225. I bough my skechers shape up about 9months ago.I wear them as instructions,at first they were great but then after 2 month I notice pain in my back, hip and leg .I could barely walk pain in calf knee and back is so bad please tell me what I need to do. In the last 3 month I have 3 injections in my spine
  226. I bought a pair of shape-ups two weeks ago and am now in bed with severe lower back pain. I have previously had two disc prolapse operations (L5 S1) )but haven't had any problems since 2003 so didn't even think about it when buying these runners but I could barely walk yesterday and am hoping that a day in bed will sort it out. It just can't be anything other than the shape-ups as I haven't done anything else different. £50 down the drain..
  227. I must be an exception. I have flat feet and had horrible pain from walking, especially my left foot which I seemed to roll on when walking. The original shape ups made such an improvement on my pain. I'm sorry to see they've become so difficult to locate. I bought the newer ones with the lower bottoms but they aren't nearly as nice. I'm sorry to see so many people who had pain or didn't like them, but it sucks to see them being discontinued for me. Sad
  228. Bought a pair of Shape Ups online. When I tried them on, thought them the most comfortable shoes I had ever walked in. (after I adapted to the feeling of leaning back) Then went online and purchased another pair. I am a 65 year old woman pf average fitness, and had a hip replacement three years ago and had also recently had back problems involving a weakness and a little stooping forward. Have to say after wearing these regularly, as in all day, every day, when not dressing to go out THEY ARE THE BEST SHOES EVER!!!!! My posture has improved, I have increased strength in the back and my calf muscles have certainly improved and firmed up. I absolutely recommend them.
  229. I have 3 pr of shapeups I fell in my driveway last year and am now suffering knee pain from landing on right leg/shoulder and I have a lypoma on my shoulder where I broke my fall. Pain is so bad I can't walk at times work outs are too painful at times.....
  230. I am willing to be in on the lawsuit. I bought the shoes when they first came out. In Oct 2011, I was walking in my house and turned my ankle in them. My ankle is still not in good shape. It still swells to this day. It was a very bad strain according to my physician.
  231. I would like to be part of the lawsuit I have injured my back and left leg on skechers shape ups havent worn them for over a year now and still my leg and back hurt
  232. I've had nothing but bad pains in my feet and knees. Sometimes my right knee hurts so bad that I can barely bend it and I'm only 32!......Oh, but that was BEFORE I started wearing the shape-ups. Now that I'm wearing them EVERYDAY I work, which is 6-9 hours walking around on a sales floor all day long, plus walk 2 miles to work and 2 miles back. I barely get any pain in my knees at all. Doctors told me I was getting old, Chiropractors told me I'd need to see them every week for about 6 months ($$$) for any results, but these shoes helped me more than I could ever say. I would like to give a big FU to all the people bringing about this lawsuit, if you haven't noticed, skechers no longer has them listed on their website. I fear they have stopped making them all together and I will have to go back to a life of pain, thanks guys.
  233. I fractured my ankle twice last year both times I was wearing my sketchers my ankle twisted. Lost two jobs behind this becasue both times I had to be out of work while undert he care of an orthopedist. I would like to join this lawsuit as well. I still have the sketchers and doctors records to prove it.
  234. I have had steady lower back and hip pain. I thought about it and its every since I bought my first pair of shape up sandals. I only wear them during the summer. I thought at first my problem was due to other things because I rarely feel sore after wearing them. Although, I did read a couple of comments saying that Sketchers did not tell you that wearing them all day is bad for you. Wrong. They say to wear them 45 minutes at a time until you get used to them. They do not recommend them for an all day shoe. That little DVD is full of info and it came with your shoes. If you are like me and did not bother listening to what it said then, I am afraid we are both screwed.
  235. I wore sketcher shape shoes for a week at the end of that week my right was in serious pain ,i ewnt to the doctor and was told that the way the is made is not made the proper way for your feet.
  236. I wore skethcer shape up shoes for a week. At the end of the week my right foot was in serious pain. I went to the Doctor on this matter and was told the way this shoe is made, is not made to form properly the foot. Was in pain when writting the previous comment so I am rewritting it so that it is more ledgable.
  237. I bought a pair of beautiful Jimmy Choo platform stilettos. I fell while wearing them, and broke my tailbone. I wonder if I can sue Jimmy Choo? I am sure that it is the shoe company's fault and not because I am a clumsy oaf!!!
  238. I just read on the news today that this law suit is going forward, how do we get in on it for our refund?
  239. I bought a pair and ended up hurting my back. Didn't think the shoes played a roll so I went to physical therapy and the therapist pointed at my shoes and said that was a major contributor to my back injury. How do I get involved with this class action.
  240. i have two pair of these shape ups shoes as it was a little bit to get use to them i have a very back back in the l 4 and 5 also in the s1 since i have been using these shoes at work my back does not hurt nearly as bad as it did and nor does my feet i walk on concrete and with out these shoes i would quit working i don't know the reason folks have jumped on the law suit maybe they think they would get a large sum of money but for the sketcher shape ups they work for me
  241. Is it too late to join this case? I had purchased a pair and tried to wear them. I felt pain walking in them but did continue to try wearing them since they were to be so good for me. I did eventually stop.
  242. I had these shoes and wore them during workouts as well as daily. They have caused me immense pain. I have been unable to workout consistently for 7 months now. I would love to be in on the class action.
  243. I started the Sketchers Shape Ups a few months ago, and I have started to experience pain in the right side of right knee, the right side muscle between the area of my right knee and fibula. I also have occasional pain in my foot joints around my Tibia, Fibula and Talus bones area on the upper side of the foot. All this pain was not present before I started wearing those shoes. Hope I have not wrecked my foot by opting into this shape up shit.
  244. PURCHASED MY SHAPE UPS IN 1109... WAS ONLY ABLE TO WEAR THEM FOR A FEW MONTHS AS I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY KNEES.... ALSO WAS NOT ABLE TO WALK COMFORTABLY IN THEM.. FELL A COUPLE OF TIMES... BUT STOP WEARING THEM AND THANK GOODNESS NO PERMANENT DAMAGE... WOULD LIKE A REFUND
  245. purchased these from qvc. in 2010. my lower back has hurt since the first time i walked in them. now, in 2012 have thrown them out and went back to reeboks, they make all the difference. wish i could get my money from qvc, but know it has been too long. would not reccomend them to anybody that wants to walk. maybe the class action suit will get my money bacj.
  246. I bought a pair when they first came out and after wearing them a few months my heel was killing me. I switched out to a "normal" pair of shoes and the pain stopped. So, Linda "Jimmy Choo" it's not from being "clumsy oaf". You pretty much don't know what your talking about considering all these people have had issues with this shoe and the FTC is making them give back money!!
  247. How do we get involved with this class action lawsuit? I have a pair of sketchers shape-ups and have had a few falls when wearing them.
  248. I also purchased a pair of sketchers, twisted off of them twice, had knee problems, and back pain. Stopped wearing them altogether. There still like new.
  249. I have two pairs of these shoe's and I have never had a problem. I have broken my toes many times and still use the shoe's and Still Love them. I have Lost weight on them and I am A CNA plus a Housekeeper so I am on my feet 10-12 hours a day.. I think If you have poor Balance and Knee problem's You had them Before you purchased the shoes.
  250. I fell in these shoes at a childs concert! They affected my balance and i was seriously injured. Wear them with caution. Apparently they are strictly for walking on a completely flat areas.
  251. How do I become involved with this law suit as well? I have "flat feet" and after wearing these shoes only for a short period of time I've almost fell flat on my face and the heels of my feet kill me? Thank you!
  252. How do you join this law suit?
  253. very difficult to even walk with these shoes.not what they were cracked up to be.
  254. I purchased (2) pair of Sketchers "Shape-Ups" and when I wear them before the day is over I am barefooted because the shoes are tiring and tiresome. I am a teacher and on my feet almost all day and it becomes uncomfortable and I have to put on other shoes. How do I get involved in this lawsuit?
  255. I purchased a pair of Sketchers "Shape-Ups" but cannot wear them all the time. My knees hurt and they throw me off balance too much. I also get a backache after wearing them, that is why I do not wear them all the time. How do I get involved in this class action suit?
  256. how do you get involved with class action suit? wore them for a year and i can hardly walk due to hip and back pain. I have been seeing a doctor and had to have shots in my back!
  257. I have no problem at this time........however, I do not want to wear them now because of what might happen!! Just want my money back!!
  258. I have hip and back pain I would like to get my money back. thank you
  259. I have purchased 5 pairs of shape up shoes and wore them after I broke both heels in a fall. I was told that they would help relieve the pressure in the heel areas of my feet. I have since had terrible pains in my calf areas in both legs. My doctor advised me to get into other shoes as she felt the shape up shoes were causing the leg/calf pain. I have found regular shoes to wear. Since then I have not had the leg pain. I would like to get involved as well.
  260. I started wearing sketchers last yr & ended with a torn meniscus requiring a menisectomy & tendonitis in my ankles. Looks like KK & Brooke Burke were the only ones making $$$ endorsing a bogus product. They should be sued as well.
  261. I wore them for a few weeks and couldn't wear them anymore hurt my knees and my lower back. I have told others about this as well. I wish companies wouldn't lie to make money
  262. OMG someone mentions lawsuit and all the ailments they ever had is blamed on the new shoes. I am on my feet and running 12 hrs a day at work and thought wearing dr. scholls orthopedic would help because other more expensive brands didn't, well they didn't either, they made my feet so much worse! I couldn't even walk to the washroom by the end of the day there was so much pain in my feet, back and knees. These shape up shoes are amazing, they don't stress out my arches or heel. My feet have never felt better, 5 months of daily use and no pain anywhere! I'm going to be buying some back up shoes just in case you people aren't happy til they are out of business!
  263. Wow I just found out about the damage these shoes cause tonight. I suspected something was up when I bought these shoes 8 months ago after about a week walking in them I started developed severe knee pain in both my knees. I m 50 years old and I never had knee pain ever before and I always been able to walk many miles and go up and down stairs like a feather. Now I can barely make up and down any stairs without having to crawl up and down, I can no longer walk far without severe pain. I can't even ride my bike as I can't push the pedals anymore. Because of this my excising as decreased considerably and I m now badly out of shape because have too rest my knees so much, I m developing other health related illness because I can barely exercise. I m so mad at this bloody shoes they wreak my knees I want compensation.
  264. I had a pair .been having trouble with leg and ankle.gave the shoes away. cant find recepit. what you do. still have box for my husband pair and the shoes but no receit?
  265. I wore them and now have knee, leg, back and hip pain. My back is so bad I have to have therapy and wear a brace. I can hardly walk stairs and my hips feel totally disjointed and my knees just burn with pain. This is beyond ridiculous.
