Pep Boys Class Action Settlement
By Mike Holter

Pep BoysIf you purchased an oil change from Pep Boys within the last six years, listen up. You may be able to claim a cash refund from a class action lawsuit settlement.

The Pep Boys oil change class action lawsuit settlement resolves claims that Pep Boys knowingly misrepresented the price of certain advertised oil changes by indicating that shop supply fees may apply when they always apply. Pep Boys denies these allegations but has agreed to provide cash refunds to Rebate Subclass Members.

You’re considered a Rebate Subclass Member if you purchased a conventional-grade Pennzoil oil change from Pep Boys between October 27, 2004 and July 21, 2010 and Pep Boys advertised or marketed a specific price for the oil change subject to the disclaimer that a “shop supply fee may apply,” and for which a mail-in rebate was offered. Under the class action settlement, these Rebate Subclass Members can submit a claim for a cash refund of the shop supply fees paid in connection with the oil change purchase, up to a total refund of $2.10 per advertised oil change purchase. Pep Boys has also agreed to change its advertising relating to shop supply fees applicable to Advertised Oil Changes.

In order to receive a cash refund from this settlement, you must submit a valid claim during the 90-day claims submission period, which may begin as early as November 16, 2010. Visit the Settlement Administrator’s website for updates on when the claims period will begin and end.

If you wish to opt out of the settlement, your request to do so must be postmarked by November 2, 2010. The final fairness hearing will be held November 16, 2010.

It’s 2017 and Pep Boys just sent an oil change offer using Quaker State oil with the same shop supply fee will be an additional charge. Guess they didn’t agree to stop using this tactic.
