Midas Lifetime Oil Change Settlement
By Mike Holter

Midas

Remember the Midas Lifetime Oil Change class action lawsuit we told you about in March? Well, a court granted final approval to the settlement agreement in the case earlier this month. That means all Washington State residents who had their Lifetime Oil Change service contracts cancelled can continue to receive free oil changes for the next five years.

Angry Washington residents filed the Midas oil change class action lawsuit in early March after they received letters from Midas telling them that they were cancelling the company’s “Lifetime Oil Change” program at the end of 2009. Thousands of Washington State Midas customers purchased the Lifetime Oil Change program (also known as “Lifetime Lube-Oil Plus”) from Midas for $130. Some Midas customer had only purchased the program just a few months before it was cancelled.

As part of the Midas Lifetime Oil Change settlement agreement, these customers will continue to receive service on qualifying vehicles under the Lifetime Oil Change program until December 31, 2015. Only those customers who currently reside in Washington State who purchased the Lifetime Oil Change service contract from the following Midas-branded franchise shops between January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2009 are eligible to have their Lifetime Oil Change contracts extended under the class action lawsuit settlement:

Auburn

Bellevue

Bonney Lake

Des Moines

Federal Way

Lakewood

Midway

Moses Lake

Puyallup

Spanaway

Tacoma

South Tacoma

Wenatchee

There are some restrictions to redeeming your free oil changes, however. Only five Midas shop locations will perform the oil changes: Factoria (Bellevue), Lakewood, Bonney Lake, Federal Way and Moses Lake.

If you purchased a Lifetime Oil Change service contract from a Midas-branded franchised shop in Auburn, Bonney Lake, Des Moines, Bellevue, Federal Way, Tacoma, Puyallup, Spanaway, South Tacoma, Lakewood or Midway, you can only redeem the free oil changes at a Midas shop in Factoria (Bellevue), Lakewood, Bonney Lake or Federal Way. If you purchased the Lifetime Oil Change service contract from a Midas-branded franchised shop in Wenatchee or Moses Lake, you can only redeem the free oil changes at the Moses Lake franchised shop.
