Gillette M3Power Razor Class Action Settlement
By Sarah Pierce

Gillette M3Power RazorA proposed settlement in a class action lawsuit against The Gillette Company could result in at least $13 or a free Gillette Fusion Razor for anyone who acquired a Gillette M3Power Razor between May 1, 2004 and October 31, 2005. You can also submit a claim to receive a $5 rebate for any M3Power blade and/or a Fusion or Fusion ProGlide razor purchased before May 2, 2011.

The Gillette class action lawsuit challenges the accuracy of Gillette’s advertisements for the M3Power Razor, specifically its claims that the razor “raises or stimulates hair up and away from the skin.” In mid-2005, Gillette deleted those claims from its ads, which the class action claims were false and misleading and violated consumer-related laws in the United States and Canada.

The proposed Gillette M3Power settlement offers benefits (including cash refunds, cash rebates or a new Gillette manual men’s razor) to anyone in the U.S. or Canada who purchased or otherwise acquired an M3Power Razor in the United States between May 1, 2004 and September 30, 2005, or in Canada between May 1, 2004 and October 31, 2005, and who submit valid and timely claims.

Here are your choices under the M3Power class action settlement:

Gillette Class Action Refund: To claim a refund, you must actually send in your M3Power Razor to receive a minimum of $13, depending on where you purchased it, plus $2 postage and handling. You do not need to send in the M3Power blades and batteries. If you send in a receipt along with the razor showing that the actual price paid for the M3Power Razor was more than $13, you will receive a refund check in the amount of the actual price paid, plus shipping and handling.

Gillette Class Action Rebate: Instead of a refund, you can receive up to two $5 rebates for any M3Power blades that you purchased during the period May 1, 2004 through May 2, 2011, and/or any Fusion or Fusion Pro/Glide razor (manual or battery powered) that you purchased during the period January 1, 2006 through May 2, 2011. To receive a rebate you must send in the UPC Code or a receipt for each purchase of these products. You cannot receive two rebates on the purchase of a single item.

Gillette Replacement Razor: If you don’t want a refund or a rebate, you can submit a claim form to receive a free replacement Gillette manual Fusion Razor or a new Gillette manual Fusion ProGlide Razor. In order to receive this, you must certify that you meet the criteria of the Gillette settlement class and are not claiming a refund or rebate. The settlement razor will also include coupons worth $4.

To receive any of these benefits under the Gillette class action settlement, you must mail a valid claim form postmarked no later than May 2, 2011. Details on how to submit a valid claim form can be found in the M3Power Class Action Settlement Notice. By far the best and smoothest razor I have ever owned. Given years of nick free shaving. Be a terrible shame should this product be made unavailable because of this.

I agree it is the best razor I have used. It appears it is not available now. It’s crazy if they quit selling it over an advertising dispute. I cannot use the five blade razor. It tears my face up. Gillette should make the razor available again soon! Before mine quits working!

I have had a M3 Power Men’s Razor for a number of years (5 to 8), and I have NEVER had any problems with it. I have to change the battery only one time since I have had the razor. Due to the age of the razor it is time to replace the BEST razor I have ever owned.

I am having trouble finding this razor sold in the stores, and I will be very upset of Gillette has discontinued this product.

To whom it may be concerned
I recently purchased three packs of your razors and two of those packs for defective I am very very upset with your company. Luckily I only nicked myself and did not get seriously cut. All of the razors in two packs were defective. The pivot point did not pivot very well the little springs cannot seem to be working and the angle of the razors were not correct. I did keep one of the defective razors if you would like to see if I can send it to you. I have used your razors for many years and have not had any problems but I think I should be compensated for my injury and the possible risk of hurting myself very badly with these razors. If I do not hear from your company I will take this issue to my friends at my local newspaper. I am a communications major at San Diego State University and I know bad public relation’s is not good for any company.

    Thank you
