Toys “R” Us Refund Class Action Settlement
By Matt O’Donnell

Toys R UsToys “R” Us has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement that could put a $5 or $10 gift certificate in your pocket.

The Toys “R” Us class action lawsuit alleges that Toys “R” Us engaged in unlawful business practices by failing to provide full refunds for merchandise credit to customers who returned gifts purchased online to a retail store. If you returned merchandise purchased online to a Babies “R” Us or Toys “R” Us retail store, and received return credit less than the actual purchase amount, you’re considered a class member and eligible to receive a free Merchandise Credit to be used at any Babies “R” Us or Toys “R” Us retail store or online at Babiesrus.com or Toysrus.com.

$10 Toys “R” Us Class Action Settlement: If Toys “R” Us can determine from its records that you returned a gift purchased over the internet from Babiesrus.com or Toysrus.com to a retail store and did not receive a full merchandise credit refund, you will automatically receive a $10 Merchandise Certificate by email or First Class Mail. You will know you are eligible for this automatic settlement award if you received a Class Action Notice. If you did, you do not need to submit a claim form to receive this benefit. However, you also have the option of making a claim for the actual amount you were shorted from the return, which is equal to the purchase price of the item returned less the actual amount previously refunded. In order to use this option, you must submit a claim form with supporting documentation by the deadline.

$5 Toys “R” Us Class Action Settlement: If Toys “R” Us cannot determine from their records whether you returned a gift purchased online to a retail store and did not receive a full refund, you can receive a $5 Merchandise Certificate if you submit a valid claim form by the deadline. No documentation is needed. However, you will also have the option of receiving the actual amount you were shorted after a gift return if you can provide documentation along with your claim form.

Claim forms must be submitted electronically to settlement@toysrus.com or postmarked no later than February 3, 2011. Claim forms can be downloaded at www.toysrusinc.com/settlement.

On July 11th 2012, I went to to Toy R Us to purchase a Nintendo DS for my son. I paid 99.99 for it. I ended up buying two Nintendo DS. One for my son ‘and his cousin. The next day my son ‘s cousin didn’t wanted the game. I decided to returned it back to TRU. The game is less than 20 hours old. When I arrived at TRU to returned on of the game back they said that they wouldn’t accepted it. The game s brand new. The person that sold me the game said I could returned it ack.. Now I am stuck with a game that I have no intention of using?

They are still doing this as of Dec 2011. Paid cash in store for item that was $14.99 + tax. Have the slip in hand and they would only give me $8.64 back. I talked to the Manager and they said that because I used for the free $10.00 gift card with a $75.00 purchase they adjust the price of all the items on the slip down to cover the cost of the $10.00 gift card that they say they are giving you for FREE when you spend the $75.00. So I said than the gift card in NOT FREE if I am paying for it !!! She said yes it is but we have to adjust the price of all the items you bought to cover the gift card. I don’t know what world they are from but on earth that is paying for the gift card !!! So even though I paid $14.99 + tax CASH for the item and I had the origenal slip ( not the gift one) she would not give me my money back. I ended up just doing an exchange so I did not loose money. This is as we all know not a legal thing for them to be doing it yet they keep doing it. They settle there lawsuits and keep going.

Well apparently they are still doing this as I did not recieve my full refund when I provided an online receipt in the store. The employees did not tell me my refund had to be processed in the same day. I walked into the store, and wasted my time when I thought I could get a refund. I was even treated rudely by their employees. There should be no excuses why customers can not get a simple cancelation, and a full refund. Now I know why this store hands out free toys with certain purchases because the toys were paid for by people like us who have had their money not refunded to them.
