Study Says Zoloft Birth Defects Not The Only Side Effect

By Scott Hardy

Zoloft LogoA recent study of SSRI drugs like Zoloft states that they may do more harm than good and have a tremendous number of dangerous side effects. The study, published in Frontiers in Evolutionary Psychology, states that taking antidepressant drugs like Zoloft and other antidepressant drugs while pregnant may increase the risk of congenital birth defects, increased risk of premature birth and low birth weight and persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN) which could result in the baby’s death or require multiple surgeries to fix. In fact, babies born with persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN) have a 10% chance of dying because of it.
The study also states that babies which are exposed to antidepressant drugs like Zoloft in the first trimester may have an increased risk of developing autism spectrum disorders. Babies exposed to Zoloft and other antidepressant drugs through, or during, the third trimester also may experience withdrawal symptoms after they are born. The withdrawal symptoms can include abnormal crying, irritability and convulsions. Attorneys are actively pursing cases against Pfizer alleging that Pfizer should have warned Zoloft users of the risks of taking the drug while pregnant.
Patients who took Zoloft while pregnant may not just experience a congenital birth defect like coarctation of the aorta. Filing a Zoloft class action lawsuit may not be in the best interest of everyone. It’s important that those affected by Zoloft side effects speak with a qualified Zoloft attorney to determine their best course of action which may be filing an individual lawsuit against Pfizer. If your baby was born with a birth defect and you were taking Zoloft or another antidepressant SSRI drug you should talk to an experienced Zoloft attorney. If you would like more information about filing a Zoloft birth defect class action lawsuit, contacting a Zoloft birth defect attorney, or would like to file a Zoloft birth defect personal injury lawsuit just go to the Zoloft Birth Defect Class Action Lawsuit Investigation page.
