Whistleblower Alleges Bladder Cancer Not the Only Severe Actos Side Effect
By Scott Hardy
Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against Takeda Pharmaceuticals alleging that extended usage of Actos leads to bladder cancer and tumors. A recent federal whistleblower lawsuit states that Actos also may be connected to suicide, schizophrenia, epilepsy and grand mal seizures. The Actos whistleblower lawsuit was filed by Dr. Helen Ge who worked for Takeda Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Ge's lawsuit alleges that patients who took Actos had a much higher rate of bladder cancer, cardiovascular problems, suicide, schizophrenia, epilepsy and grand mal seizures when compared to similar drugs like Avandia. In addition, Dr. Ge's Actos lawsuit alleges that Takeda Pharmaceuticals repeatedly obstructed Actos connection to heart problems and multiple types of cancer (including bladder cancer.)
Dr. Ge worked in Takeda's pharmacovigilance division and reviewed the side effects of Actos which were reported by Actos patients and their doctors. Dr. Ge also prepared many of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandated safety reports about Actos. Dr. Ge states that her Takeda Pharmaceuticals managers continuously spurred her to brush-off reported Actos side effects and to change the reports to make Actos look better than it actually was.
Dr. Ge also states that in her opinion Actos is more dangerous than a similar drug, Avandia, which was removed from pharmacies due to the risk of heart attack while on the drug. Dr. Ge states that Takeda Pharmaceuticals covered up the risk of severe Actos side effects to make huge profits off the drug.
Now that there is a multitude of sever side effects of Actos patients must be aware of them and that legal assistance may be available to help pay for any damages or medical bills that have occurred. Actos patients also need to know what to look out for if they have taken Actos for more than one year as it may increase the risk of bladder cancer by 40% or more. Bladder cancer is one of the most severe side effects of Actos and should be treated as soon as symptoms are detected.
Symptoms of bladder cancer include tumors which may cause blood in the urine, painful or frequent urination, or straining during urination. In addition, other common signs of bladder cancer include fatigue, incontinence, weight loss and bone pain or tenderness. If you are experiencing these symptoms you should see a doctor immediately so bladder cancer or tumors can be ruled out or treatment stated if necessary. If you are experiencing these symptoms and are diagnosed with bladder cancer or tumors you should speak with an attorney to see if you are a good fit for an Actos class action lawsuit or an Actos personal injury lawsuit. Patients are filing Actos bladder cancer or cardiovascular problem lawsuits because they believe that they should have been warned of the significant risks of taking Actos. Bladder cancer due to Actos can, and allegedly has, lead to death in multiple patients whose families have filed lawsuits against Takeda Pharmaceuticals.
