Zoloft Causes Craniosynostosis Birth Defect Alleges Lawsuit

Zoloft Pills birth defect lawsuit attorneyA new Zoloft birth defect lawsuit alleges that the drug may cause craniosynostosis if taken while pregnant. Craniosynostosis is a birth defect which causes the sutures on an infant’s skull to close earlier than they normal. This birth defect can cause the baby’s head to appear abnormal and require surgery to fix.
The new craniosynostosis birth defect lawsuit joins a hose of other birth defects which Zoloft allegedly may cause if taken while pregnant. Other birth defects Zoloft and other SSRI drugs may cause if taken while pregnant include Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN), Atrial Septal Defects (ASD), ventricular septal defects (VSD), abdominal birth defects (omphalocele), cranial birth defects (craniosynotosis), aorta coarctation, hypoplastic right or left heart syndrome, transposition of the great arteries (TGA), tetralogy of fallot (TOF), spina bifida and club feet.
This Zoloft birth defect lawsuit was filed by Michelle Smith. Michelle alleges that Pfizer and Zoloft distributor McKesson Corporation should have warned her of the risk of taking Zoloft while pregnant. Michelle’s Zoloft birth defect lawsuit alleges that Pfizer performed studies which showed that Zoloft could cause birth defects but didn’t warn patients taking the drug of their findings.
Antidepressant drugs have been found to cause serious and severe birth defects like congenital heart defects, low birth weight, still birth or their babies were born with PPHN. Thousand of parents are expected to file lawsuits against Pfizer to help pay for medical treatment and pain and suffering which their children have endured to fix or treat Zoloft related birth defects.
Birth defects may be caused by many different medications (not just SSRI antidepressant drugs like Zoloft) and only an attorney and your doctor can determine if one of the medications taken during pregnancy may be responsible for the birth defect. Many Zoloft lawsuits state that before Zoloft was approved by the FDA in 1991 Pfizer conducted animal trials which found that Zoloft caused severe side effects in animal fetuses. Even though Pfizer knew of the risk of birth defects Zoloft lawsuits allege that Pfizer did nothing to warn doctors and patients of the risk.
Some patients on Zoloft have opted to file a Zoloft class action lawsuit. Filing a Zoloft class action lawsuit may not be in the best interest of everyone. It’s important that those affected by Zoloft side effects speak with a qualified Zoloft attorney to determine their best course of action which may be filing an individual lawsuit against Pfizer. If your baby was born with a birth defect and you were taking Zoloft, another antidepressant SSRI drug like Paxil, or another medication, you should speak with an experienced birth defect attorney.
