Government to Pay $500,000 in Asbestos Cleanup Lawsuit

The federal government has agreed to pay nearly $500,000 to settle an asbestos lawsuit filed by an Oregon nonprofit association that alleged the government failed to clean up asbestos debris left behind at a former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers training camp near Sunriver, Oregon.The Sunriver Owners Association, which provides road maintenance and other services to 4,000 members of the Sunriver community, discovered the asbestos debris in 2002. The asbestos lawsuit settlement will recover the association’s costs from investing and fixing the asbestos problem.
