Yaz Birth Control Lawsuit Alleges Gallbladder Side Effects

By John Curran

Yaz/Yasmin gallbladder lawsuitTop Class Actions has reported on Yaz side effects lawsuits, as well as those of similar oral contraceptive pills such as Yasmin, Ocella and Beyaz. Last year, the Yaz/Yasmin birth control duo was responsible for the second highest number of product defect cases in America, with over 9,000 Yaz/Yasmin lawsuits filed. Now, that number has dropped as dismissals and settlements have reduced the number of Yaz lawsuits. However, a new type of Yaz side effect has emerged, and it could affect more women seeking to file a Yaz side effect lawsuit.

In California, a woman has hired a Yaz lawyer to file a Yaz side effects lawsuit against Bayer Pharmaceutical. The most common claim by Plaintiffs in Yaz, Yasmin, Beyaz and Ocella lawsuits is blood clot side effects, such as pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, heart attack and stroke. However, this woman’s Yaz side effects lawsuit accuses Bayer of providing a product that forced doctors to remove her gallbladder.

As yet, there are few, if any, other birth control side effect lawsuits that have a similar claim. It could be another headache for Bayer, however, if this type of Yaz birth control lawsuit turns into a trend. Not only has the company paid out more than $400 million in Yaz lawsuit settlements related to Yaz/Yasmin blood clot injuries, it has also earmarked a total of $1 billion in additional Yaz/Yasmin lawsuit settlements. The math doesn’t add up, however. Yaz and Yasmin side effect claims have been made by 10,000+ additional women, and the $400 million was only for around 1,800 Yaz lawsuit settlements. Total costs could be upwards of $2.5 billion in the Yaz lawsuit MDL.

Yaz injury attorneys may also find that the California woman’s claim of Yaz gallbladder side effects will become more and more common among Yaz and Yasmin lawsuit Plaintiffs. The total may grow even more. It also could require a new warning label by the FDA, which already warns patients that the risk for blood clots is three times higher in Yaz/Yasmin/Beyaz patients as the rest of the population. That risk is more than just blood clots, as Yaz side effects sufferers are necessarily at higher risk for stroke and deep-vein thrombosis, both caused by excessive blood clotting.
