STI Sufferers May Face More Z-Pak Side Effects
By John Curran
Zithromax (azithromycin) and Z-Pak side effects are a common occurrence for millions of Americans, thanks to the antibiotic’s prevalence. Yet people who need treatment for sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) should watch out. Thanks to genetic mutations in the bacteria that cause gonorrhea, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have cut the antibiotic Suprax from the list of approved treatments. It leaves STI patients facing a higher risk of Zithromax side effects as options for antibiotics are limited.
As bacteria are treated with antibiotics, they change and adapt so that the medications don’t work. Suprax faces that problem, and while Zithromax side effects can be minimized, it’s not likely. The only recommended gonorrhea treatment is a combination of injectable Rocephin and either Zithromax or doxycycline, now in generic form. Doxycycline has its own side effect problems, including allergic reactions and skin sensitivity to light. But doctors are more aware of these than comparable Z-Pak toxic epidermal necrolysis side effect problems since doxycycline has been on the market for more than 40 years.
More importantly, the potential of conditions like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome are much more dangerous in Zithromax side effects than skin problems in many other medications. They are very hard to counteract, and can lead to third-degree, burn-like skin destruction. Many other Zithromax side effects can affect patients as well, including blindness and cardiovascular conditions like Z-Pak-related heart attacks.
One piece of good news is that there is a related product that seems to have promise. It doesn’t have the joint tissue concerns of Levaquin, and is some eight to 16 times more effective than azithromycin, with few of the reported Zithromax side effects. Unfortunately, there is always the problem of pharmaceutical companies hiding potential risks, but at least it is a future option for healthcare professionals who want to avoid the dangerous Z-Pak side effects that have already led to claims from Zithromax Stevens-Johnson Syndrome wrongful death lawsuit attorneys.
