Chantix Lawsuit Settlement is Temporary Pfizer Reprieve

By John Curran

Chantix suicide lawsuitPfizer’s in-house legal team has not been thrilled with the Chantix multi-district (MDL) attorneys they have been dealing with in an Alabama District Court. With allegations that one of the firm’s anti-smoking drugs causes Chantix suicidal thoughts side effects, each week seems to bring a new delaying tactic. No matter how expensive, the first Chantix lawsuit settlement is just more of the same.

With the trial set to begin October 29, lawyers worked frantically last week to get a settlement in place. A woman who claimed that she lost her husband due to Chantix suicidal thoughts side effects was the first plaintiff in the bellwether case. The undisclosed cash payout means that other Chantix MDL attorneys will have to wait for January to get a crack at Pfizer.

There are several bits of good news. The judge in the case, Inge Johnson, has already told top Pfizer executives that they will have to show up for depositions and testimony. In spite of an old guideline indicating that witnesses should not have to travel more than 100 miles, Johnson decided that it was antiquated. The corporate officers will have to explain what they knew about Chantix violent thoughts side effects and when they knew them.

Chantix and other smoking cessation drugs like Wellbutrin are known to have psychoactive effects. However, plaintiffs and their Chantix suicidal thoughts lawsuit lawyers are arguing that the risks were not advertised to patients. A lack of clear advertising may have led to a high number of Chantix violent thoughts side effects and other mental health issues, they claim.

There are more than 2,600 cases filed by Chantix suicidal thoughts lawsuit lawyers, with the next up filed three years ago. In addition to suicidal and violent thoughts, the Alabama man argues that he suffered from memory loss and mood swings.

If you or someone you know developed similar conditions while on the smoking cessation medication, you may be eligible to pursue a case against Pfizer.
