Remembering Presidential Dilantin Side Effects
By John Curran
Dilantin side effects have hurt more people in the past than they do now, thankfully. Doctors, including those in the White House, used what is an anti-epileptic as a tranquilizer for decades, until very recently. Historians are now wondering whether or not one president developed problems from the medication.
Richard Nixon, of course, never suffered from Dilantin Stevens-Johnson Syndrome side effects. There would have been telltale blotches, and while he was notoriously private, there were never any reports of rash or hospitalization for inflammation. However, he did use the drug as an off-label relaxation medication. Unfortunately, he also used alcohol to the same ends. Instead, he suffered from Dilantin cognitive dysfunction, researchers argue.
Dilantin toxic epidermal necrolysis symptoms, as best as scientists can guess, triggers a reaction from the immune system to some part of the medication. However, in the case of Dilantin, it can create deposits in parts of the body like the cerebellum. There, Dilantin cognitive dysfunction side effects include language and possibly responses to good and bad stimuli.
More imaginative researchers argue that some of Nixon’s decisions were influenced by the Dilantin/alcohol cocktail. In either case, election day and the questions that come up between November and Inauguration Day don’t stop at politics. When the most well-informed doctors choose off-label medications, people are most at risk. Many physicians do not think of Dilantin toxic epidermal necrolysis symptoms, or those of other drugs. They simply know it may have worked for another patient.
And that does a disservice to the president all the way down to the newest citizens. Dilantin Stevens-Johnson Syndrome risks, as well as those for other anti-epileptic drugs and even antibiotics, can happen in just a day. People who are on new medications need to be aware of these concerns.
