The FDA issued a report in March of 2012 stating that there had been more than 1,000 reports of adverse side effects linked to transvaginal mesh implants. It also stated that these side effects were reported concerning implants made by nine different vaginal mesh implant manufacturers. These were due to a variety of side effects resulting from treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP).
