Acidophilus Pearls Probiotic Supplement Class Action Lawsuit Investigation

By Andrea Gressman

Acidophilus Pearls probiotic supplementsProbiotics are a very popular item on the market today. They are frequently used to treat gastrointestinal issues as well as digestive disorders. It is a homeopathic remedy for things like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), constipation, as well as many others. It is important to realize that probiotics are not a scam themselves. But what manufacturers do with them and in their name can classify as a probiotic scam or probiotic fraud.

Many probiotic manufacturers are actually diluting the amount of probiotics used in their supplements to a point that it is no more effective than a placebo. Other probiotic manufacturers make promises that are so exaggerated that they actually classify as false advertising. One such product that has now been accused of a probiotic scam is Schwabe North America/Enzymatic Therapy, Inc. Acidophilus Pearls.

Because probiotics are not regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) there are no regulations placed upon the bacteria that are actually being used in the probiotics or how much is being used. Schwabe North America/Enzymatic Therapy, Inc. Acidophilus Pearls claim that they help to support the consumer’s immune system, digestive system, and even skin health. They go on to claim that the user will get relief from the following conditions:

  • Constipation
  • Loose stools
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Occasional gas
  • Sensitive stomach

The company also goes on to claim that Acidophilus Pearls will ensure “your body is not weighed down by toxins which may limit your immune defenses.” The probiotic supplement also claims, “Probiotics help support healthy skin from the inside out: they help manage and eliminate free radicals and toxins.”

However, there have been a number of consumers that have alleged that these claims are false and that the Schwabe North America/Enzymatic Therapy, Inc. Acidophilus Pearls are nothing more than a probiotic scam.

What are Probiotics and Are They a Scam?

Probiotics are actually microorganisms. They are found in yeast or in bacteria and are often introduced into the body through food, such as yogurt, or supplements in order to improve the individual’s health. It has been reported that researches do believe that there are digestive conditions that are the result of an imbalance in the intestines of bacteria. In the intestines there are over 500 different kinds of bacteria and if these become out of balance it can lead to different digestive issues.

The problem arises when consumers begin to seek out homeopathic treatments for their digestive issues and turn to a probiotic supplement that has not been properly formulated. The consumer then completely loses their investment because they are not able to receive the promised results the probiotic manufacturer has made. Schwabe North America/Enzymatic Therapy, Inc. Acidophilus Pearls is a probiotic manufacture that is allegedly apart of the probiotic fraud that is going on today.
