Manufacturer Reeling from Omontys Side Effects, Recall

By John Curran

dialysis anema treatmentOmontys recall lawyers are investigating claims that the drug used to treat anemia in kidney dialysis patients often had serious consequences. As a result, the pharmaceutical manufacturer Affymax is cutting back operations with massive layoffs.

The federal Food and Drug Administration recently announced a voluntary recall by Affymax due to reports of Omontys heart attack side effects. Yet it took less than a month for the company to enter a tailspin as the anemia drug is its only product. Kidney dialysis patients who dealt with serious issues as a result of the anemia drug do not necessarily need to worry about the company’s solvency.

Keep in mind that Affymax partnered with Japanese drug giant Takeda Pharmaceuticals, which has made billions of dollars off or popular drugs like type 2 diabetes treatment Actos. Still, it is a sign of how serious Omontys side effects are that the company has to lay off hundreds of employees. Perhaps worse is that the drug only lasted a single year on the market, in part because of initial reports of several deaths and other less serious events.

People should be aware that Omontys heart side effects are not the same problems as those caused by the dialysis chemicals NaturaLyte and GranuFlo, which were recalled on March 29, 2012 and can also cause cardiac problems and sudden death. So if any events, including cardiac problems, occurred in dialysis patients after the February 25, 2013, they should be investigated as potentially linked to Omontys.

Omontys injury lawyers are examining potential claims, and tens of thousands of kidney dialysis patients were put at risk for these conditions. Considering that the company is reeling, legal claims could provide a jury award or settlement for side effects victims. It is important to note that while men and women with kidney failure are at a higher risk for many diseases and disorders, Omontys can cause an increased risk for cardiac arrest side effects.

If that sounds similar to problems you or someone you know have faced while undergoing treatment for kidney failure, legal options are available. Learn more and get a free legal consultation regarding a claim’s eligibility at the Omontys Recall Class Action Lawsuit Investigation. Experienced legal professionals have the access to medical experts to assess whether or not this anemia drug played a role in heart problems that have had fatal consequences for patients, so act now.
