Woman’s Stryker Hip Implant Nightmare Gets Hundreds of YouTube Views
By Jessica Tyner
A woman named Selma Schepp underwent hip replacement surgery two years ago hoping to ease the daily hip pain she was experiencing. She had no idea that the artificial hip she would receive from Stryker would cause her even more pain, plunging her into a nightmare that she’s shared with the world on YouTube.
Sadly, Schepp’s Stryker hip implant story isn’t that unique. There are many hip implant victims like her who suffered greatly from the faulty metal-on-metal hip implant. However, what is unique is that the retiree took to YouTube to share her story, hoping that it can help prevent at least one other woman from experiencing a similar nightmare. There are currently hundreds of views of her YouTube video and her Stryker implant complications are being shared around the world. It’s too late for Schepp, but she’s committed to helping as many people as possible to avoid her fate.
There are two common complaints about Stryker hip implants: That they fracture and that metal flakes off into the bloodstream. Schepp experienced both. As she shares her Stryker hip horror story from her home, she walks viewers through her nightmare, recounting years of pain and suffering. Hip implants are supposed to improve a person’s life. For Schepp, it was just the beginning of an ordeal she’ll never forget.
Schepp’s Recovery from Stryker Hip Implant Surgery
Schepp had her Stryker hip implant surgery in 2011. Two years later, she’s still unable to drive since the pain from the fracture is so intense, and the toxic levels of metal in her blood have caused chronic fatigue. Schepp was never told that metal hip implants could cause toxic levels of metallic flakes in her bloodstream. She remembers talking to her doctor in depth about the possible side effects of hip replacement surgery, and she was reassured that it was perfectly safe.
She does remember hearing murmurings about metal-on-metal hip implants being defective, but she trusted her doctor. Schepp doesn’t remember knowing that the hip implant she would receive was from Stryker when she agreed to the surgery, and didn’t do any research about Stryker hip implant problems. All she can say is she “never knew” the problems associated with Stryker hip implants and feels taken advantage of both by Stryker and her doctor.
“I never thought anything like this would happen,” a shocked Schepp says, leaning back into her chair at a loss for words.
Why the Delayed U.S. Stryker Hip Recall?
It’s not just her own Stryker experience that has Schepp up in arms. She says she’s angry that Stryker Orthopedics did not issue a U.S. Stryker hip recall as soon as one was issued one in Canada.
“Do they want people to suffer and have all these pains?” she asks. Even after a revision surgery to repair the damage caused by her Stryker hip implant, Schepp can’t walk without a cane and she says it’s so difficult walking outside that she’s largely give up. Instead, she feels confined to her home, waiting and hoping for the Stryker side effects to fade away. She’s not sure if that will ever happen.
Schepp says that if she had any clue that there was even a threat of metal poisoning from her hip implant — let alone other Stryker victims who experienced it — she would never have opted for a metal hip implant. However, she wasn’t warned.
