Pfizer's Counterfeit Fights Reduce Z-Pak Side Effects

By John Curran

Zithromax side effectsPfizer Inc.’s intellectual property includes patents that have led to the production of drugs linked to Zithromax heart attack side effects and those of other drugs. Oddly enough, the multinational firm's attempts to reduce the number of counterfeit drugs in the United States and around the world have the benefit of reducing risks.

Prescription drugs like antibiotics can come from Mexico and Canada, although usually they are filled in U.S. pharmacies. However, these mail-order operations do not always get their supply from the drug makers' Canadian or Mexico subsidiaries. The resulting drugs can be adulterated, potentially adding additional risks beyond the standard Z-Pak side effects. So the prescription medications are safer than counterfeit options. Depending on the drug, there is an additional reason it becomes safer.

By Andrea Gressman

Dilantin Stevens Johnson SyndromeDilantin has been on the market for many years. However, it’s only been the last few years that the drug has received recognition for some of the severe side effects it has been linked to, one of which is Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). This is a severe Dilantin side effect that has caused severe pain and a number of fatalities.

One such account occurred over a decade ago. A woman, only referred to as Cindy, provided an interview about how her mother was prescribed Dilantin after the physician thought she had experienced a stroke. However, the drug that was given to her in order to help her ended up being the reason for her death as it caused her to develop Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

$10M Children's Tylenol Stevens Johnson Syndrome Settlement Upheld

By Andrea Gressman

Children’s Tylenol Brianna Maya has become a well-known face for Stevens Johnson Syndrome as this young girl has been forced to fight for her life and deal with the severe SJS side effects for most of her life now. She developed SJS at the age of three when her mother unsuspectingly used Children’s Tylenol and Children’s Motrin according to the doctor’s instructions, alternating each every three hours, in order to treat Briana’s fever.

After Brianna developed Stevens Johnson Syndrome her parents sued the manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson subsidiary McNeil Consumer Healthcare, alleging they did not properly warn patients about the side effect risk of developing Stevens Johnson Syndrome. As a result, Brianna Maya and her family were awarded $10 million and it was recently reported that this settlement has been upheld.
