Patients Harmed by Vaginal Mesh Sue Implant Makers By Robert J. Boumis
Vaginal mesh is used to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary in women. In these maladies, the organs of the pelvis fall out of place, or require additional support. Surgical mesh implants were promoted as a better alternative to traditional treatments, but mounting evidence suggests that they are more dangerous than standard treatments. Vaginal mesh implants are woven structures designed for implantation in the body to support organs. There are two types: biological and synthetic. In biological mesh implants, the mesh is woven from biotic material, like animal collagen. The body will eventually wear down biological mesh implants and absorb them. This means that hopefully, by the time the body heals and the pelvic muscles strengthen enough to hold the pelvic organs on their own, the body will have absorbed the mesh. In synthetic mesh implants, the mesh is intended as a permanganate implant. However, all brands and types of mesh have been found to have serious complications for some of the women using them. Actos Bladder Cancer Victim Awarded Settlement By Christina Drury
After just five days of deliberation, a Los Angeles jury found in favor of the plaintiff in the Actos bladder cancer lawsuit Cooper vs. Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Jack Cooper, a retired employee of Pacific Bell Co., had taken the diabetes drug Actos for a period of four years and had recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Despite his age, and prior addiction to smoking cigarettes, the plaintiff’s Actos attorney was able to achieve a verdict in his favor. |

Depakote Studies Reveal Link between Pregnancy Use & Developmental Problems By Christina Drury
A study recently published in January 2013, conducted over a period of four years from 2000 to 2004 with a group of 500 women, revealed that the risk for neurodevelopmental problems was greater in those women who used Depakote during pregnancy. In 12 percent of the cases these women gave birth to children who later had developmental problems. Other recent studies have similar findings on the risk of Depakote birth defects. Researchers are now saying that as the dosage for Depakote increases, so does the risk for developing long-term development problems in the mother's offspring. History of Depakote Birth Defects |

A new Yaz blood clot lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of California, in San Francisco, on April 2, 2013, against the manufacturers Bayer, McKesson Corporation and Berlex laboratories. The plaintiffs, Jessica Carlton from Georgia and Tara McLaney Stanley from Alabama, allege that Yaz caused dangerous side effects that were deliberately withheld from the public and healthcare providers who would be prescribing the oral contraceptive. Mirena IUD May Cause Physical Damage from Side Effects By Robert J. Boumis
Today, women have many options in their birth control. One option, the Mirena IUD, offers the benefit of spontaneity. After implantation by a physician, the device requires very little further thought on the part of the patient. However, despite these advantages over other forms of birth control, serious risks have come to light for women who selected this form of birth control.

Judge Says Zoloft Birth Defect Lawsuits Can Move Forward By Jessica Tyner
As hundreds of SSRI birth defect lawsuits stand by awaiting trial, many of them targeting Zoloft, a federal judge has declared there are now enough Zoloft lawsuits for a move forward. This is good news for birth defect victims and their families, since it looks like the process will be moving quickly and standards will be put in place. Many parents are suing SSRI manufacturers, claiming they failed to appropriately warn mothers-to-be about the birth defect risks associated with SSRIs like Zoloft. These types of medications are antidepressants, and doctors unknowingly prescribed them to patients who were pregnant, assuming the risks were minute. SSRIs have also recently been linked to autism. |
